Okay, now this is not reactionary todays lost but more so to the 2 months of thrashings. Now you might disagree with some of my points but change needs to happen.

If I was coach I would try some new stuff:

-Bring in Lucas Cook: I don't care what his form is like. We need something to look forward to and he can't be any worse than Watts

- Petterd to half back

-Tapscott to forward pocket

-Drop both captains to find form at vfl. (sure it will create a media stir but Trenners can't find the footy and Grimes can find it but needs to work on his foot skills. He still butchers it)

-Stef Martin to play midfield

- And admit to the football public that we have a serious problem and will be making big time player delistings at the end of the year. This would at least create some interest for the rest of the year. See who plays for their careers and who doesnt.

WOW.

Thanks for the laughs Freak, but I don't think this OP is good for much more.

Beg for my job back at collingwood?

Though seriously, have a heart to heart, get some whispers, find out who's not interested and relegate them permanently to VFL. Moloney/sylvia etc. Take the short term pain and get back to playing the kids. If we play a young side all year of kids who want a future at the club and belted every week so be it. We will be better in the long run.

Opponents are scared of tappscott and he got himself in the right spot this afternoon a few times so can read it better than some.

Stef Martin in the midfield doing what exactly?

the only reason we were in the game was through attacking through the corridor which is what Neeld DOESNT want - we were forced to because Carlton were double teaming our pocket area everytime we did what the coach wants... My first criticism of Neeld.

Very good lateral thinking freak but there's probably a reason why you are NOT the coach .Actually five right there .

he was and he looked great tonight. His stats dont show what he did. A few times he was in smart spots and had things gone differently would have been able to apply scoreboard pressure. Opponents are also intimindated by him. he shoudl be in our side every week.

If you think we should drop Grimes, you are off your head. Is playing pretty well with little support I think. Trengove is another matter, but I don't think he can be dropped, so what happens with him? Has to find form.

Yep, hard at it every time and I didn't mind that sling tackle in the 2nd, even though it gave away a free.

Yes i agree,Grimes to Casey. In a pure footbal sense,he's the worst captain the MFC has ever had.

and here we start to see the players executing the gameplan, may have been after round 2 or 3 when Neeld said he wasn't telling them to always play around the boundary and bomb it long. It was our main style around the boundary but he wanted players to use their iniiative when there was better options and go in board, Maybe the players are starting to understand it a bit better a good few positives today, but we are not fit enough yet to play this gamestyle but when we are we should know it inside out. having said that i think it will continue to evolve once we get our defensive side settled.

Bombers and Pies to come and we need to build on the positives

At risk of being inappropriately personal, Freak, I decided very early on in your posting career here that I was glad you weren't the coach, and not much has changed.

yes to cook.

bootsooma is a stick. 2nd game and still managed to create more contests than watts?

Cook struggled to get a kick in his last Casey game, a game where Casey were in control, kicked a heap of goals and he was in the forward line, he kicked 1. No where near ready to play in the big league.

Stef Martin has been very ordinary this year and would only get a game if Jamar went down, he has a lot of skill but just doesn't seem to be able to put it all together, he just doesn't look a natural footballer.

And while you're at it, Bate into the ruck, Clark as the sub and Jones to full back.

Sure, you'd be a great MFC coach....

- Cook? Can't hurt bringing him in and the timing seems right with Green looking to miss a week atleast with injury and Dunn looking to be dropped.

- Petterd to half back? I don't mind it because he's been struggling for a while at AFL level in the forward line, why not?

- Tapscott forward pocket? Getting games into him regardless sounds good, though I'd say play him at half forward onwards to better utilise the long kick.

- Dropping captains? Not a good idea.

- Martin in the mid? Wouldn't work. I'd rather see Couch get a crack at the mid instead. Mature age recruit yet to be tried on the big stage, who knows, he might seize the opportunity like Magner has.

Stefan Martin in the midfield? As in a rover? Jeeeez, I think we might struggle with two blokes that are almost 200cm's tall in the centre square. We already suck at the stoppages, how is Stefan Martin supposed to cover a midfielder 20 centimeters or so shorter than him ( and almost definitely quicker and more agile )?

Absolutely, a player who has fought a long time to play in the AFL, and is obviously hungry to prove himself. Just look at the performances of Magner, Nicholson and Blease compared with blokes like Davey, Sylvia and Moloney who have just come to expect a game.

Not saying it's a great idea by any means, but Martin is a VERY quick player. Probably in our top 5 over 100m.

Probably not such a good idea, and speed is more important over the first 5 to 20 rather than 100 and also in decision making which is where Stef falls down IMO.

Yeah I see that, but I'd say that would be better for a straight line lead or staying with a leading player. Couldn't really see him weaving in and out of traffic with the ball, just too big I think.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
