Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New recruiting manager

I must have been on another planet for the last few weeks because I hadn't heard or read that we have actually got Collingwood's number 2 recruiter.

Mike Sheahan stated on 3AW this arvo that Melbourne have signed Collingwood's number 2 to be their Recruiting Manager, however, Collingwood are holding him to his Contract and he won't assume the position with us until after the 2012 Drafts.

Was this public knowledge?

Had not heard of this, but would mean that we would struggle to get Rendell for longer than 6 months unless we take on 2 key recruiters.....not a bad idea just not sure how that would work.

Why in the world would we contract anyone, however good at the job, for this club-future-defining "super-draft" when he won't be able to get involved? Do we use another "fill-in" for such a pivotal moment?

If true this must be one of the very worst decisions our Board have ever made.

Please tell me this isn't true.

I agree, this upcoming draft is just about the most important draft for our club ever. We'll have the 2nd highest first round picks and we need to make sure each one of them is a gem. Look at the Geelong side, their core is made up of two excellent drafts and the rest fill in around them.

I don't care if Eddie sues us, we should get the best person we can regardless of the consequences.

Second in charge at Collingwood would be a great get surely. Been at a great system, especially good at talent identification.

Need good people involved for this year.

Maybe look at Rendell. The way he's put together the Adelaide list is unbelievable, considering he hasn't had even 1 top 10 draft deal with.

And his high pick he nailed in Dangerfield, when all the know-it-all armchair recruiters said he should've picked Ebert

Do we not think he will be advising the club and Viney on who to pick

Crazy situation. He could quite easily make a list and carelessly leave it somewhere for Viney to find but

1 do Collingwood trust him enough to involve him completely in there process and

2 If he is still working for Collingwood they won't have access to picks as early as us and therefore won't spend as much time as we should analyzing the best 5 players

If it was true that Collingwood's number 2 recruiter was coming to MFC, wouldn't that mean Collingwood would have a vacancy for Rendell, or may even have him already?

Would we be better (or have been better) to chase Rendell ourselves?

It might be crazy for Collingwood, but its twice as crazy for us. How we can enter a vital draft without a proper recruiting manager is beyond stupid. Then just to make it more interesting the person doing the recruiting is also the father of a guy who we are committed to, therefore leaving us ripe for the rest of the comp to black mail us with Jack Viney. Crazy.

Yes. Well, that is, I already knew about it, and not from any "inside sources."

Can't remember where though.

This was part of the source of the issue early in the season, when AFL clubs were complaining of assistant coaches being poached before the end of their contracts, or before finals.

Eddie also came out and said he'd steal our sponsors, because we'd poached Leigh Brown, Neeld and the Collingwood physio.

Jason Taylor (assistant national recruiting manager) was named as someone we were trying to poach, and a couple of weeks later it was confirmed by some sources, but for a lot of people it didn't seem to register much of a blip on the radar.

Rendell has stated that he already wanted to get out recruiting before leaving Adelaide, except he wanted to wait for this "draft of all drafts".

I think MFC, in the position where we don't have our new national recruiting manager until next year, is in the unique position to offer him involvement in this draft he has been waiting for, without wanting a long term commitment in the recruiting caper.

Also we'd have a link with Viney and Craig having worked with Rendell.

I fully endorse this move, if it is to happen.

Fingers crossed.

What Ive heard is that Neeld wants to choose all his own recruiters as well.

What exactly is wrong with that?

Nothing at all mate. Just what I heard. Which isnt surprising at all.

Yeah, cos I would have thought that was probably a reasonable request.

He may not sit at the table, but i bet he would have as much input as any one at the team. And Collingwood would not let him near their table.

True but problem is Collingwood can control him and he will watch the matches and players they want him too not the ones we need him to.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
