Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

More excuses.

It doesn't take 10 Kgs to show a desire for the hard contest.

So watts your prognosis for Cale Morton? I don't want to see Jack W go the way of Morton & Bennell.

Cant see Cale making it. Far too soft and poor skills. Just not up to it IMO.

I think we need to adjust our expectations of Jack. He's certainly not a mongrel-hardball get-contested mark type at the moment but that's OK.

The role he played on the weekend suits him as he's got excellent skills and reads the play better than most. Reckon that should be his position for the next year or two until he can beef up a bit more and get some more experience.

You knows, maybe he can turn into a Jobe Watson or Josh Kennedy type one day being tallish midfielders. He's certainly a better player at age 20 than they were.

Among the gloom at the SCG, I thought that despite all the criticism of our players both Jack Watts and Sam Blease provided a warming of the heart.

I encouraged Jack to be tried in the back half - albeit from forum land - sometime ago even before he was sent back to Casey. It's important he feels that he belongs at AFL level, and I thought sending him back would help his intensity and sense for a contest. He has shown against Sydney he can read the play and drop into holes for contested marks or intercepts from reaching the opposition forwards. His kicking to position is exemplary but he needs to maintain that for length of games. He showed a few times by selling the pill he can create time for himself with the ball. Good move by the coach.

Amassing the amount of touches last week down back will give him some confidence. It's a start.

exactly the point.......if he improves as much as he has in his first 40 games in his next 40 then he will be in the top 20 players in the comp.

Every now and then a unique unpositionable player comes along, like a James Hird type. A player that has the skills and instinct to be given more freedom to roam and use his skills. I believe, given the proper development, we have 2 of these on our list, one is Gysberts and the other is Watts.

Neither player will be your typical hard mid, big forward, or tough backman, but could possibly become such a hard to match up player that they are a massive weapon for us.

This is where the expectations of Watts may have been off, but possibly even below what we will end up getting. Not a big marking forward, but an absolute game changer who will be worth more to us than what we originally hoped for.

Watts has coffees with Malthouse now days. Will be interesting to see how that goes. I know a bloke who is a member of the same golf course as Watts.

The view at the club - if you believe people you trust to know - is that Watts has coped unfair criticism and at times has worn criticism that should have gone to others.

Melbourne put him up for trade at seasons end or whenever r his contract is up.

He has no passion for the game or contest, looks like he is in slow motion no urgency as well as this he needs to be selfish and go for it, to many times goes for the team option when it is not needed.

Has shown nothing since being on our list.

Why keep him for another two years hoping he will come good , trade him off while he may be worth something.

Otherwise we keep him till he even realises he hasn't got what it takes and is totally worthless.

Before every one starts sprouting rubbish that big guys take longer to develop is aloud of crap,we don't have time.

He seems like a nice guy and I hope he proves me wrong, but He won't.

He was our fifth highest disposals today and generally used the ball well by foot. He does more with it when he gets it in the midfield, rather than the backline; on the back line regularly has no options to kick to. Edit: 23 disposals at 87% Effective Disposal today...

Wasn't our worst today, was among our best last week. Why the hate right now? And is this really anything that couldn't have been added in an existing thread?

Don't want to make an outrageous and unjustified call like the poster has here but I'm sorry this is the most ridiculous thread I have ever seen. Has been one of the positives over the last year!

I am such a Watts fan and really want him to make it, but some of his efforts today were... limp is the best word I can think of. He is playing limp footy. But it is getting frustrating. In the last quarter he went back into the play, took a mark and got 50 metres from Betts. This showed good courage and good reading of the play. In the same quarter he chose not to go for a mark about 30 metres out for goal when he had a perfect run at it and would have jumped over the other people pushing and shoving. And that lazy, limp kick out that led to a goal summed up the attitude he displays too often.

He has got every skill, unique peripheral vision, can rack up possessions because of his reading of the play and can run as quick as any other bigger forward but lacks urgency and intensity. This was on full display today. Do we make him learn at AFL level or make him discover these traits in the VFL?

Shouldn't get seduced by stats when he is playing lose. His intensity and competiveness are unacceptable. How many times he Just coast past a contest. We sure know how to pick em. Another one with all the talent in the world without the drive to reach the levels expected.

Worst thing about the thread is the attention grabbing headline. Then you open it and it's just suggesting we're going to trade him. If you'd had an argument why he'll be out of the league in two years it might be interesting, but as it is it's a Billy No Mates style cry for help.

Trollin... Silly comment, he will get there, and I am liking him at half back. Gives us great use out of the defensive half, his skills and decision making are pretty good. Saw a couple of good tackles but the only time I think he was questionable in the contest was that mark in the forward line where he pulled out, and I think Hampson or someone marked over Howe. Even here you can make the argument that Watts stayed down because no one else was there to crumb - either way he will cop it for that contest I think.

I'll say Jack will be in our top 5 players in 2 years time.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
