Schartz said he had something to say about the Demons tonight and while I was expecting and got some of the usual/same nuggets going around about where we are at and the playing group, I was blown away with his passion and his clarity. He was annimated like I have never heard him before.

He said you cant blame the administration when they lost their major sponsor and were able to quickly find replacements in a difficult market.

He said you cant blame the coach or coaches because we havent seen the players apply themselves in a way that even indicates whether he or they can coach or not.

He said that the problem is squarely with the playing group (old news I know) and then he cut sick. He said we have players drawing $400-$500 K and putting in efforst worth $2.50. He said some of rthe players should be thinking about giving their salaries back. He said that he has never seen a sitaution before where players were choosing whether to 'turn up' or not. He said it was obvious some players just dont care and arent making any effort.

he went on to reiterate the fact that football means the world to many supporters (highlighting a bloke that microwaved his north Melb membership) and that it was flying in the face of the supporters when you choose not to put an effort in.

The part that really caught my ear and the part that most would be surprised with was at the end when he said that basically 'he couldnt care less if 15 players on that list dont get another game until they put in effort or ever again at all.'

Reasonably biting words from an ex player but accurate.

Not too much new there but that was his take on the whole sitaution and I must say I agreed with it all.

David had so many problems to overcome and he can't believe the opportunities some blokes have been given, considering his career was so cruelly curtailed. Unfortunately, who will listen?

Aligns with the other discussions on the board. I reckon there is a "night of the long knives" coming at selection on this thursday.

Hopefully what he says gets podcasted.

Persuaint to the playing group and specifically the senior players I reckon the team should be largely unchanged for the next game.

Except for injuries of course. Neeld says to the players this weekend you play for your careers either it's this weekend or it's Casey for the rest of the year.

I'd have taggert, fitzpatrick, couch, any youngster out there who wants to play than prima donnas

I missed a bit of what he said. It went for about 20 minutes. If anyone else heard it please add as i was driving at the time.

Again, its fodder for those who are pizzed off with MFC. And thats everyone. Nobody is happy whether you are a supporter or not.

Ox has said nothing new and nothing proud. He is entitled to his opinion. I dont know why we needed another thread or why his comments need podcasting.

Do we need a new thread every time someone voices their opinion?

By the way, who is David Schartz?

Agree. He is the bloke that bagged Maloney, Pettard and Trengrove.

Unnecessary and irrelevant to comment on Ox's past.

FWIW, I am aware of Ox's foibles but I admire his battle against them since he retired.

I couldn't get to hear it - a podcast or a transcript would be just great.

Interesting his views on Col, as an insider (or at least more of an insider than the vast majority of us posters here) as being averse to hard work, aka L..A..Z..Y! Many here feel the same, but Col either doesn't have insight or couldn't give a stuff, and I dont know which is worse.

And I am not a long term Col bagger - in fact preseason I posted that I believe that he could, given application, win a Brownlow, and still believe it, but know he won't!

Personally Id prefer to see a new thread on the comments of people who actually played the game and who know people in the club or who have had an association with the club, than more illinformed 'sack the coach/administration' cycles, but that's just me. especially when that opinion is given with such passion.

People are so precious about surname spelling. If thats the best way to invalidate a comment then no wonder the outside world view MFC supporters as elitest.

Just a guy who could win a one on four contest for the Demons on sh!t money and one knee and never ever complain about the privilege of being paid to do so .

Spot on Biffen

More then you can say for our so called leaders playing at the moment

I heard it and was impressed, he sounded passionate and it sounded like it came from the heart. Any player who has an issue with the words Schwarter used should have a good look in the mirror.

The line I liked if there are 15 of the 42 players not putting in the effort, thats fine play em at Casey for the rest of the year or show them the door

Posted

Exactly. Like I said, he cut sick. And this isnt someone taking the opportunity to sink the boot in for attention or for other reasons, this was from someone who obviously still cares passionately about the club.

Posted

Interesting. I was told 4-5 players. Now Ox says 15!!

It's getting worse!

But it is getting out there, and in the long term that is good.

My response was in relation to his obvious frustration at the opportunities afforded others - do I get a warning point?

PS ... should be 'elitist'.

PPS I would just like to add that I hadn't noticed you spelt Schwarta in that fashion, and it wouldn't have bothered me anyway. I for one think that spelling is very important and don't know why it gets such bad press on these boards.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Rehabbing: Great to see Kentfield back (much slimmer), walking with Tholstrup, TMac (suspect just a management thing), Viney (still being cautious with that rib cartilage?), Melksham (

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
