On thursday Liams courtcase will be held over his involvement in the violent incident.

Im sure we are all hoping everything will be fine, as he is a vital cog and could be the missing piece to the melbourne football club

good luck liam

Anyone know details for what time etc this will be held? Really keen to know asap.

There's so much depth to this bloke and hist story, and I'm hoping for the best for him more than I have for many I can remember.

Wouldn't it be great to have a day where the truth comes out and Liam is cleared of this cloud, AND he gets selected for the Dees as well.

Might sound selfish in a way, but it would give me a massive lift as a Melbourne supporter.

He is Appearing via video link. Little possibility of being resolved. This will probably drag on until after seasons end, certainly if Liam is to plead not guilty.

Without wanting to turn this into a legal studies thread, why is it that it probably won't be resolved? Because of the video link or because of the case itself?

He certainly looked like he was enjoying his footy on the weekend, and Rudeboy reported that he was keen as mustard about playing footy again.. I'm hoping that's an indication that he thinks / knows he will beat the charges

But if it's decided there's insufficient evidence etc wouldn't they not bother going further?

Quite right Stu. It will be up to the Mago to decide if the weight of evidence is sufficient to commit the matter for trial (in a higher court). It will then go on a List and could take ages.

It's actually just a plea- his lawyer (hopefully a local one- I live in Alice and know the magistrates may not appreciate someone brought up from Melbourne when a local representative knows the nature of these matters- which aren't as infrequent as we'd like) will just need to state whether Liam pleads guilty or not guilty. Depending on his plea, the date for a trial, probably a couple of months away, will be set. I hope that clears up any misconceptions about Thursday.

This is just the beginning of a very long process. He will plea, then there will be other hearings when the parties exchange their evidence and witnesses etc, then there would normally be a Committal hearing which could run for a few days or a week where a Magistrate will decide if there is enough evidence to make him stand trial for the serious offences he has been charged with. If the Magistrate decides there is enough evidence then I trial date will be set for a full trial which could run for weeks. This whole process could go on for a year or so.

Let's hope they chuck it out very early. And let's hope he gets some really decent legal representation. I hope the Club will guide on that. I know of many Melbourne and Sydney Senior Barristers that go to Alice Springs to defend clients so there shouldn't be a major issue with the local Magistrates over that. More than one of them are very well known in footy circles for representing footballers at the Tribunal and in the Courts.

Hoping that Jurrah can at the very least be named as an emergency for Saturdays game. Fly up to Sydney on friday and get away with the boys for a weekend.

I wonder if he has to get permission. From memory his bail conditions required him to go and stay in Melbourne.

I thought they were to just stay away from Alice...but again, could be wrong and it might actually be both.

I am pretty sure that the bail conditions were to stay out of the NT....

As others have commented, thursday's hearing will only last a few minutes. If the case proceeds then it is likely to drag into next year.

In the meantime Liam is available to play in Sydney this weekend. Believe me the Jurrahcane is ready to rumble!

I thought I heard Sandy Roberts say (on a news promo on SEN) about 4pm that there was 'a twist' in the Liam Jurrah case.

I doubt very much that anyone would be privee to what is likely to happen in the courts before it has gone before the magistrate... I'm pretty sure there would be a case for contempt charges to be laid if that were to occur.

No story. People warn him that if he returned there would be trouble. Everybody already knew that, and no mention that he was planning to visit anytime soon.

Matt Thompson article on afl.com.au website mentions that his co accused, Christopher Walker will appear from jail in Alice Springs. I assume he has been there since the incident. This is pretty serious stuff. Evidently if Liam wasn't an AFL footballer he would have been in jail all this time since the incident waiting for the legal process to go through to trial which may well not happen till next year. Too bad if the guy is found innocent and he's spent all that time in jail.

Article in the Hun today says if found guilty he could face 14yrs jail sentence. Fingers crossed for a good defence.

In the NT that might be the only way to keep him alive!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
