He doesn't warrant a Tom Scully like "Will he or won't he" thread (although neither did Tom Scully :) ). His management has said he'll wait until the end of the year - I hope we're not discussing this for all that time!

Ha, ha. Ho, ho. Hee, hee. It is to laugh.

Well as you seem so certain, verify your source

V12, lets do the Footy Maths,

How many years do you reckon Melbourne would offer Jamar, who is 29 this year?

Two years?

How many years do you reckon GWS would offer Jamar?

Two years + a tempter year to lure Jamar to Sydney = 3 years, at least.

How much money do you thing Melbourne would offer Jamar?

x

How much money do you think GWS would offer Jamar?

x + more.

= Jamar leaving.

I will be watching these 2 closely on friday night. Particularly Moloney. How much does he want a contract, be it at MFC or elsewhere?

Baseless internet rumour with no verification holds as much water as "I want to be a 1 club player"

I can only stand on my record.

Was right about Meesen's injury.

Was right about Scully.

Was even right about Woewodin at least four months before there was even a hint he would leave.

Will be right about Jamar.

Disclaimer: I am nevertheless a fine looking rooster with egg on my face.

Essendon will make a play for Moloney. To be honest, he would suit their game plan better than ours. He also wouldn't get tagged. He would also have a chance of getting a flag. The afl have already stated that the compo picks would not be as generous as the giants/suns compo. I'm with Rhino R. Third round pick.

Correct.

Well to be fair the way things are travelling for the dees at the moment if Jamar was considering leaving for the opportunity for the "ultimate success" as opposed to bucketfuls of money he sadly is just as like to find it at GWS as MFC. Dam he might figure he can get both there!

I think this article says more about his new management company than what Moloney's intentions are. And the statements about wanting success, few one club players in the future, exploring options are the views of the management group. Kaider never said, Brent has said he wants to find success, or that Brent was wanting to explore options.

It was Kaider who said that "We will have some conversations with other clubs. My view is if he doesn't test the water of free agency, he is doing himself an injustice". This is Brent's management group positioning Brent to hopefully get a good pay day. If you follow sports like basketball in the US this happens daily coming up to the Free Agency period. Given that One Management has Bogut as a key client, as well as Patty Mills and others, they are probably better prepared for the introduction of free agency than the other management companies.

I think we are getting to caught up in the Hun headline, because once you read thruogh the article there is little that suggests that Brent wants to leave the club, just that his Management thinks he should explore his options and the players (in general) seek success (well duh!).

Dunno about "ultimate success" at GWS, but Sheeds, Choco and the Jaffas look a reasonable prospect for Jamar's last few years of superannuation.

The thing that the likes of Moloney should consider is the sheer lack of success other players have had in transittioning to other clubs. Bruce has disappeared from the footballl world, Brock ... poor guy, Travis Johnson had a rude wakeup call.

Also, Not many players make an impacted in the first year of transittion, I think it takes a year before a player intergrates into the new side.

I thought there was a rumer that Moloney wanted to move to Essendon last trade period but the deal couldnt get done...

You may well be right, you may not

However, I think we're in a position to offer Jamar 3 and reasonable money

Jamar is a leader of the club, he's stated he loves the club, he rejected a big offer from Port to return back home

But after the Scummy debacle, who bloody knows

Contract negotiations by media and self worth inflation worked wonders for alan toovey in the last off season didn't it? None was willing to bite on what his manager was touting he was worth, and he ended up back at the pies for lesser money.

I think once moloneys (who is this maloney character people also refer to on here?) manager gauges what his true market value will be, he may compromise and re-sign.

The chances of the MFC winning a premiership seem even more distant with the arrival of free agency.

Not particularly a club with a lot of $ to throw around, and not entirely enticing to come to either.

Posted

I think the timing of this can only be a good thing for the club. Moloney has been really average so far this season.

If he decides to turn up and play well then he's worth it. If not then he's played his hand too soon and wont get as good a contract from us or anyone else.

Either way we'll know how hard we want to fight for him.

I hope he fronts up and plays so well we HAVE to keep him. Then we either keep a great player, or can negotiate well for him.

The fact that they have begun their "negotiations" via manager and media now means that both want to close a deal with Melb soon. Otherwise you'd hold tight, say nothing, while having a quiet word with potential suitors.

They will be signed on inside a month. It's in MFC's court.

Each club has the same salary cap... or will in a few years.

I don't particularly want either to go as losing senior players has probably stunted our development somewhat in the past two years.

However, we do have plenty of ruck back up and we do have plenty of average midfielders - so I wont be crying if either or both leave...

Ho, hum...

Well talk about egg on my face. I was saying just yesterday how good beamer was for melbourne then i wake to this.Well the great thing about demonland is that today i can tell you all how much i think moloney is scully num 2. But im really worried free agency could hurt the MFC if we dont get our head out of the sand quick smart because players want to win and there is only so much you can take. Players like chipper who love the club but just are so sick of never winning could hurt us big time. MFC needs to start winning very soon forget tanking for more kids we need to start winning before this club is in big trouble

Our ruck back up is Max Gawn, a man coming off 2 knee reco's.

Spencer isn't up to it, Martin is only a back up and it remains to be seen if he's a good one at that and it's way too early to tell if Fitzpatrick can make it or not. Even if he does he might be more of a backup than a starting ruck.

I don't want to lose the one position we actually are competitive in and I don't want to weaken our midfield one bit considering it is a major struggle currently.

Pretty sure he signed a new 3 year deal last year. He aint going anywhere.

good good, saw some squib on the herald sun post something like 'im very close to watts and he wants out as well'. Probably just looking for a reaction but made me wonder what his contract was.

Jamar hasn't begun any negotiations via the media. Neither he or his manager has said diddly squat. By the logic you suggest, Jamar, who is holding tight could be a flight risk
