Like last year, the Casey Scorpions will take on Geelong VFL at Simonds Stadium on Saturday in the curtain raiser to the Geelong v Melbourne game.

Unlike last year, when the VFL Cats were the underdogs and won by 128 points in an ominous preview of the later game, this year they will start as favourites.

And seating will be hard to get for the Casey folk according to the VFL website.

Due to the redevelopment of Simonds Stadium (involving the Doug Wade Stand and the Southern Terrace), a large number of reserved seats at the Stadium have been lost. As a result, this has had an impact on the entry details for VFL curtain raiser matches.

VFL Club supporters and general public will be required to pre-book general admission standing room entry or a daily reserved seat prior to the match to guarantee their entry on match-day.

Please see the information below about Peter Jackson VFL games that will be influenced.

Please note: VFL Passes and Club Memberships WILL NOT give you access to Simonds Stadium for these games. All supporters must book a ticket through Ticketmaster.

I'll be back tomorrow night with the VFL teams. The Development League team has its second bye of the season this weekend (the first was just three weeks ago).

I'll be there bright and early! Lets hope for a better result than last year in both games (one we're not allowed to mention).

Also looking forward to seeing for the first time Rory Taggert and the possibility of Jurrah and Viney running around!

There were no tiks left at Ticketek today. Goodluck.

Club allocation went on sale 2 weeks ago. Got in then, thankfully!

Some nice ins there, good to see Cook and Gysberts starting. Watts in the back pocket is interesting.. And of course the return of Jurrah and introduction of Viney.

Good to see Jurrah and Gysberts back and look forward to seeing how Viney goes. Hope to see Taggert get a run.

Will be very keen to hear the results from this game with these two and Watts.

How many tickets are allocated at these "interstate" Games??

Didn't realise Geelong is interstate !

Agree with your thoughts. I hope Sheehan keeps up his good start to the season as well.I feel he has a bright future along with Cook whom hopefully keeps on improving after gaining further fitness.

No Gysberts?

KC has him listed in the middle in the team above!

May as well be as far as "visiting" clubs and fans are concerned.

I hope 7 put together a highlights package to show at half time in the main game... quite possible considering Jurrah is making his return, Viney is making his debut and Watts is trying to atone for his relatively poor form.

Fifteen listed Demons plus Viney in that side!

That makes Gawn, Green, Jetta, Martin, MacDonald (slated as non-playing first emergency), Strauss and Tynan (plus rookies Williams and Evans) as the only listed players who arent suiting up this weekend, thats a good sign!

Given the now greatly reduced injury list I'd expect our performances at both VFL and AFL level to improve accordingly.

A couple of premiership players on the wing for the Cats in Wojo and Byrnes!

Also see they have 17 listed Cats players named, but apart from those two very few senior games experience in their lineup.

Just priceless to get Viney in there, I can't stress that enough.

Other clubs cannot get their future first round pick into their system a year early and show them the structures that, evidently, take ages to learn.

And people get to see the 'brick wall with eyes' in the flesh.

The juxtaposition to Watts will be unfair but that is footy.

Good luck to all involved and to LJ who I am still behind as he moves into an incredibly important May and coming months...

Can't see Geelong's vaunted depth and smooth transition to replace their veterans in that group, but it's true that I'm not very familiar with them. Sure they've got plenty of their youth into their 1sts but they've still got plenty of veterans in the twilight of their careers. Our side looks much stronger - result will be fascinating.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
