SYLVIA PERMANENT FULL FORWARD?

Hey guys i quite like the idea of Sylvia as a permanent full forward... can take a great grab, finish well... is strong at the contest... him and Clarke down there would actually worry the opposition... with Viney next year and the addition of Magner i don't think we need him in the midfield anymore...although we would miss his outside running and long kicks

And what are we supposed to do when our shocking midfield goes for minutes at a time without getting the ball inside fifty. Sylvia will get mighty cold up in the goalsquare with our current roster of mids.

Disagree - Sylvia gets beaten in the air against good defenders and is better running through 50 as a forward than a stay at home forward. He is not quick enough on the lead to provide the option from FF.

Agreed. Sylvia is great in space. Not many FFs get much of it.

I like the idea of him playing as the 2nd forward (behind Clark or wattsy) and spending 5-10 mins a quarter as a burst player through the middle. Col may be our most frustrating player but he's also our best player and the one most likely to influence a result. Will be great to have him back this weekend

I like the idea of him using his pace and aggression to win the ball in the middle and give our forwards a chance. Goal-scoring midfielders are gold in today's game, and that is exactly what he is.

IMO we need his skills around the middle of the ground & across half back lending a hand bringing the ball through. If he drifts forward then great.

Sylvia is very good in space, he converts on the run and is the give to player who can also hit atarget in the forward line.

He is just the player we are missing at the moment.

There's a big reason why the Western Bulldogs didn't win a flag when they played Brad Johnson as their main forward/full forward. And there's a big reason why teams like Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Brisbane (do I need to go back further?) are all recent flag winners.

If you don't know the answer, compare the heights/weights of their forward lines.

Sylvia is a flanker who can move throughthe middle. But he seems to prefer the wings and given Neelds prpoensity towant to hug the boundary then Sylvia ought to come into his own.. Big emphasis on OUGHT, as Im about a gnats d*#k away from giving up all hope this guywill ever be the goods.

He is a wonderful user of space and had great vision to fall into the hole , puttting him at FF is a nonsense.

How will his fitness be? Does anyone know what fractured vertebrae do in terms of limiting fitness work? I presume he won't be 100% so he might need to spend more time forward and less time in the middle than Neeld might ideally want. I expect he will spend more time up at the full forward line this Saturday than he might in subsequent weeks while he gets his fitness and touch back.

He's probably been running for near, ?, 3 weeks, @ a guess. So he may have missed about 3 off the track...

Always intrihues me why anyone thinks you can play at FF and not be Fully Fit.. They used to rest you in a pocket, that's more likely., maybe.

FF requires you on your game. You have to have 100% burst speed ( well 100% of whatever you have ). Putting an underdone player in a Key possy is handing the opposition a freebie. in a word..DUMB

No, this has been tried and it hasn't worked. Sylvia is our best midfield option, resting up forward, he should be used mainly as a midfielder he is the only one with the ability to break away from stoppages. He can be rotated through the forward line for a rest and this will give Howe or Watts a run in the midfield.

I would like to see Jack Watts one out up forward

Sorry but Sylvia at FF is a waste

Sylvia is a play maker and should be used as one

On his day he can cause havoc in that position

No point being at FF when you take one of the players that is needed to get it there out of the equation

Id just like to see him play a full season with some consistency. But I doubt he'd have as much impact as a full forward.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
