AFL Employee leaked info about indigenous players

How do you know who is "the most likely"?

Because the complaint was about the supposed treatment of the Indig boys at our club.

So these boys are the most likely to Know about it, or who said it. It is they're club too, and as such I'd believe they'd have a steak in the interest of the health of their club.

If they really care about the club enough. I hope they do.

This is more about a culture, where it seems some players think their more important than the club is. Not about indigenous, thats just the focus of this issue now.

I'm talking about taking this issue now and using the Impetus, to straighten the poor ME culture from this point here now, & going forward.

This person has gone against the club & what its trying to do.

For me the first issue is to sort the cultural wrongs (Melbournes poor culture over decades, especially the last 15 Years).. Deal with this first.

To me this has absolutely Nothing to do with Aboriginal Issues, but is all about whats going on with the lack of respect within the footy club, for the MFC... It just so happens that its focused around that sensitive issue.

I want to see the footy club stand up for itself... I love nothing more than Indigenous Australia, the Flora, Fauna, the Peoples and their cultures & History.

To me, this is Not about them, or any of that, but a footy matter.

This is not about racism, or finding a scapegoat, or harassing a particular group. But the inference was that the ' Leak' came from within about Neeld & speaking to the Indig boys as a group instead of Individually. And they implied there was a racist twist in the Coaches ways.

My suggestion was about getting to the truth, from whoever was the leak, & the first, not the last place, to start asking questions would be from the Indig boys, and from there to the rest of the players. Not hard to start at the most likely first, then work your way around.

If they want to be precious about a method of doing something then we've lost the game of football & have entered politics. I bet thats how the cops would run an Inverstigation. They wouldn't start in the AFL's loos.

We have "entered politics". This definition is from Wikipedia.

"Politics (from Greekπολιτικός, politikos "of, for, or relating to citizens") is the process by which coercive power is legitimately applied. The term is generally applied to the art or science of running governmental or state affairs, including behavior within civil governments, but also applies to institutions, fields, and special interest groups such as the corporate, academic, and religious segments of society. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power"[1] and refers to the regulation of public affairs within a political unit,[2] and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.[3]"

Everything we do in the public domain is about politics, including the running of the AFL and the way it deals with all of these issues. Politics is about how people organise their societies. Football and the people within it have there own politics but that exists within the politics of the broader society It is not being "precious" to follow a proper process and respect the rights and dignity of everyone involved.

All right, tell that to the police force the next time they run an investigation, that they should start in the phone book,,, with the A's first then.... then tell me how you went. Theres a thing called pragmatism. I think it follows logic.

And I don't think the politics of law allows for political correctness.

The politics of law does enshrine "moral correctness". Political correctness is a "weasel word" that people use when they don't want to be constrained by cultural sensitivities.

PS. I'll get of my 'high-horse' now before it bucks me off.

Do you want to be more specific, of what your suggesting?

Whats it got to do with the Melbourne leak?

I hope you can see that what I was about had nothing to do with our Indig boys as being Indig', but rather about the club growing some', and find the truth & who it was & if it was infact malicious, and then dealing with it strongly & appropriately.

Nothing at all about Aaron or any of them.

One of my favorite Melbourne players is/was Whelan. And the Wiz, and Pikey as well.

Not to mention Winmar, Muir, O'Loughlan, Long, Cable, Rioli, past & present...

I just think that many people brand things as "politically correct" when they don't want to observe a particular cultural sensitivity. eg. 'Shock Jocks' use it when they want to say something unacceptably racist. Then say they are not going to constrained by the 'political correctness police'.

That's not me. I can't stand the 'cheapness' & lack of Integrity of these, 'shockjocks'.

Don't mistake my passion & integrity for shallowness. I mean what I say. I just hope it reads the right way.

Back to the topic - will be interesting to see what follow up, if any, there is from the MFC on this. We shouldn't just let this slide, we should force the issue and let it be known that we don't take too kindly to our coach and players (Davey in this case) being slandered by rumour, innuendo or inference.

On top of this we should force the issue regarding Mifsud's role - if he felt there were problems with how MFC/Neeld were conducting ourselves surely the right thing to do as a Community Engagement Officer would be to call a meeting with the club and discuss it or at least make a phone call instead of leaking to the tabloid reporters to wage his war through the media. How can the AFL expect the clubs to take their employees seriously if they let rubbish like this go unpunished?

Vlad's reading of the situation is very very poor.

Mifsud MUST go his situation in any role with the AFL is untenable.

Mifsud is in a position of authority and he has very poor judgement.

Mifsud can't expect the AFL to read the situation and accept his resignation.

Agree with all this. The lies and double standards of the AFL are simply appalling. How can he possibly look into a camera and say that Mifsud has been given a slap on the wrist for leaking unfounded information to a mate in the media. I love this game, but geez the AFL make me sick in the guts sometimes. Disgraceful

How could this MIfsud character keep his job? Unless he comes clean on his source or else Vlad steps in and tells us the truth then this stench will blight this club for a long time.

Wow so Davey got named. I wonder where Gerard got that from because he seems to be a pretty smart sports journo and im disappointed he went with this . I see Davey's statement so I have no reason to doubt him. But now if he does get dropped this week because of last weeks poor performance people will still talk.

Its probably a good thing we are playing in Perth in the sense at least we get the team and Neeld out of the state. Just hope this gets sorted. Glad Jim isnt here to see this unravelling.

How can one offer his resignation and it not be accepted? You just leave don't you?

This is the problem when you have an AFL indigenous office or whatever he is called. They look for something to do to keep them in a job. And pretty soon it gets murky.

Reminds me of the climate change 'scientists' like Tim Flannery who are paid by the Govt - whoa, guess what? He found out the world is going to fry us all........

And those University researchers in the UK who get 17million pounds a year to research climate! So what if they changed a few emails and alter data to come up with their bodgy conclusions.....

Davey said "I strongly deny involvement in the matters discussed at today's press conference". This is legalistic jargon gobbledegook. He should be more specific and direct. Not acceptable.

Yep

- Mifsud burns Rendell in an article in which he basically lies (quotes him out of context)

- Andy D forces the Crows hand and tells them to sack Rendell

- Thomas is told some more "untruths" by Mifsud and publishes the comments at an opportune time to out Mifsud over the Rendell issue

- Andy D clues on to what has happened and gets Rendell a job before Mifsud admits to feeding Thomas the Neeld rumour

- Mifsud offers his resignation but Andy D refuses to accept it to save his own face over forcing Adelaide to sack Rendell

And also potentially to save the AFL from the full story (including sources) coming out after MisFed spills the beans on them.....a few extra dollars from the media for the story would come in real handy post his sacking me thinks!

I have read through all of this and I cannot believe what I am reading, quite frankly.

Some people here should be dead set ashamed of themselves.

There is no more evidence of Aaron Davey being involved than there was when Thomas inappropriately implicated Neeld.

Aaron Davey has denied involvement, and in fact has come out to say he was not involved, and has actively defended the coach to at least Caro. Now some of you are saying that he forgave Mifsud too quickly, or that other media types (who, until this flared up, had said nothing) are more reliable than the man himself.

Aaron is an MFC player, and he has been to my knowledge a loyal servant for many years. More years than most of you have had your jobs. He does not deserve to be called a liar, double crosser, underminer and conspirator by hysterical morons hiding behind a computer screen.

What is clear is that Mifsud is an unsophisticated, agenda driven person who cannot be trusted. To go public to Thomas of all people based on hearsay is unable to be justified.

However, those of you who quickly bag Demetriou are also falling for populist and reactionary crap. You need to assume he knows a lot more about this than you do. Of course his decisions can be scrutinised, but let's put it this way, he is more likely to make a sensible decision than those who are happy to defame Davey on this site.

I think people need to settle down.

This is just plain wrong.

Firstly, to those claiming a rat - how do we know? Some are saying 'senior indigenous player', some are saying 'former indigenous player', some have said 'Aaron Davey' which he has denied. Mifsud clearly cannot be trusted, so to trust him with getting this from a 'source' is barely possible.

Even if he did get this from a so-called source, funnily enough, do you know when this came up? Caroline Wilson and Patrick Smith both said they got this from Mifsud (will come back to this) a couple of weeks ago. Same time as Rendell blew up. They both, independently, did their due diligence by calling MN and AD and found that it was a crock, and left it at that. Thomas didn't do such a thing and published. The more this comes out, the more it sounds like Mifsud was just throwing stuff out to big-note himself.

Now, as I said, both Wilson and Smith said they got this. Now, how the hell can it be a private conversation that came out if BOTH Caroline Wilson and Patrick Smith, as well as Grant Thomas, know about it?! Not only that, but Mark Stevens mentioned the rumours on Twitter. Clearly multiple journalists as well as footballing personalities know about this - the opposite of Rendell, where only Mifsud and Farhour knew.

This whole thing stinks, and it's coming from AFL House, not the MFC.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
