Phil Scully offered GWS gig in November 2010!

There is no chance that the brat will play us next season. If he does i'll be highly surprised.

I propose instead of booing this prat. 20K plus MFC supporters stand up and turn their back on these flogs from GWS

when they run out onto our hallowed turf. These cretins aren't fit for existence let alone recognition.

The symbolism would be perfect.

Will definitely be making the trip over from Perth for it.

T'was interesting the comments about how if it were Collingwood or Richmond they and their fans wouldn't put up with the treatment of their club over the issue but that Melbourne has a weak, compliant board and was prepared to cop it sweet.

Been happening for years and we need to do something about that mindset if we're ever going to go places.

Forget him done and dusted, better off without any disloyal players, stinks of Demetriou all over this deal, Best way to stick it up the Afl and the former player is to move forward develop this young list into regular finals side, premiership contenders and win a flag or two. Lets see Tom end his career with nothing but thoughts of what loyalty may have brought him!

Monopoly money! Love it!!!! Forget the marshmallows... Genius.

Clearly this whole saga is a disgrace. But in regard to us having a soft and compliant board.... I think just offering a huge contract to him would have pushed up his contract at gws... This will leave them with less money in 5 or 6 years time when they start challenging for the flag, at the same time we do. More than one way to skin a cat gentlemen.

He won't play round 13.

We play them away in Canberra, he will play there. I will make the trip and enjoy Beamer dishing out the same treatment that dermie got in 89 at the opening bounce.

Agree with your point. However, never ever does a good reporter give up his or her sources!

Sadly he has shown up Cam and others as being either gullible, stupid or both!

Yeah, the ol' cliche. He's more a MFC person than journalist.

I would love for some of the heat to be turned up on Scully's management, Velocity Sports here. They spun the web of deceipt all year, yet so far appear to be teflon coated. I've got no doubt that Peter Blucher, who was a sports journalist and Brisbane media manager in a previous life, has been crafting story after story on this. Did you like the most recent one about how tough things had been on Tom, and that had Melbourne been a bit more successful, he would have stayed?

Don't need to think hard about where these articles about an "unprofessional Melbourne" starting appearing from. And as for Alastair Lynch commentating on Fox as well as appearing on "On The Couch" saying his client's mind wasn't made up - well I'm sorry, but that just doesn't pass the sniff test.

I have said from day one, that they may have succeeded in filling Scully's bank account, but they have failed miserably in managing his reputation. Perhaps their slogan should be "Sports Management, Marketing and Deceipt."

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/tom-scullys-dad-phil-scully-to-get-giant-pay-rise/story-e6frf9jf-1226196015004

"PHIL Scully is set to receive a tenfold pay rise as a full-time GWS recruiter after spending only two years as a weekend talent spotter.

The father of star GWS recruit Tom Scully will be paid a minimum of $100,000 a year by the Giants after earning only several hundred dollars a weekend with the Sydney Swans.

Scully is considered in the industry to be an enthusiastic recruiter who pulled no punches in his analysis of teens playing in the TAC Cup and private school system in the southern Melbourne region.

He is believed to have earned less than $10,000 a season assessing talent in the APS school competition and for several TAC clubs."

I think it's entirely appropriate that we make mention that the entire Scull duggery volume threads here at Demonland will go on sale 4 weeks prior to Christmas...so don't forget to fill your stockings so you can read the entire set again and again. Be sure to put aside a whole year of spare time, because you're gunna need it !

But wait, there's more. Buy the complete set (17 - including May, June, July. August, September versions) before December and we'll throw in five more volumes of threads free. That's right, FREE ! They're yet to be posted on, but sure as hell you can bet your life they'll be some hum dinger threads of entertainment. They will come with all your complete characters - Grubby Allan, Kevin Sheedy, Andrew Demetriou, Dale Holmes and of course your favourites...Lucky Phil and his lost son.

And for those paying upfront, we'll even throw in all the deleted posts ! That's right...the uncut version ~ ! Wowee.

PS. Sorry Mike.

Why? This is big news and it's fair enough that supporters want to discuss the issue.

I was in the camp that until i had some sort of "proof" then all was conjecture and speculation - Well, it leaves no doubt in my mind that there were massive lies told and now nothing would surprise me - I have been duped of the highest order and from now on my passport will read- "nutbean lives in the land of complete cynicism - believe nothing and nobody"

(Apology to WYL - I suggested, contrary to your post, that the truth would never be known - GWS are leaking like a sieve. Interesting that the lid has been kept so tightly shut on Ablett ( when and where) yet the Scully walls are comin' tumblin' down)

Good point. But didn't Lynch go further? Was he the one who said that Melbourne fans could be 'confident' about T$' future?

Everyone attached to this sorry saga is diminished here.

The latest revelation about Phil Scully's pay increase is neither sensational nor surprising.

It merely adds a little to what we already knew about all of the players in this scandalous affair.

We also know the AFL, which is propping up GWS with football money and resources, won't lift a finger to add to the compensation already granted to the club and is hoping the matter will blow over and die.

I think our football department is really doing a good job in dealing with the situation. In his SEN interview yesterday, Jade Rawlings said he hadn't heard a bad word said about Scully at the club. That means they're focussing on the right things despite the fact that many supporters (myself included) are venting over the issue as every new piece of evidence of duplicity and dishonesty comes to light.

That's ok because while many posters here are concerned about what's going to happen when we play GWS on two occasions in the latter half of the season, the coaches and players are concentrating on improving the team's performance against all opposition and particularly the power clubs of the competition like Geelong and Collingwood. The rest will fall into place - just as the Scully scandal will enevitably blow away and die.

The best thing that can happen to our club is that in twelve months time nobody will care about the name "Scully".

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
