Hurley is the better player right now, hands down.

Can't wait to see Jack Watts in 2012 with another pre-season under his belt.

I'm really pleased we picked Watts. He will hopefully be one of the great MFC players in due course.

That said, I have always thought, if we didn't pick Watts, Hurley was the player we should've drafted - not NikNat.

I am hoping that Mitch Clark now in our forward line will be a huge factor in Charlie Watts becoming the gun player we all want him to be. Watts should now be able to be far more creative.

Mark Robinson was the one salivating after that game. So much so, he wanted to run with it on the back page that day. All said and done, I think Brereton's thoughts in that article on Watts will come to fruition.

"Hurley steams at every contest, as if believing the match depends on him winning or losing at that moment.

That competitiveness cannot be taught.

James Frawley has it, so does Kieren Jack, so does Buddy Franklin. It's called intensity."

what a great comment, its so true...

just waiting for the day jack watts kicks 5 or 6 and wins the game for us and sees that he can do it, and i think it will come. would love to have hurley am a big fan of his but watts is better

Completely different players Hurley is a crashing hard CHF (or CHB) very similar to Neatz except his kicking ability both sides of the body from a distance. Watts is more an athletic type maybe (but far from the same) as an Adam goodes can probably play most positions best suited up the ground or half forward flank as a younger player and can see him spending more time forward as his body matures. Watts to be the overall better player IMO but bombers have a gem no doubt would love both in our team

Stupid iPhone "Neitz" I mean

Hurley reminds me of Neitz, good honest player, good club man, but missing the game winning ability that very good players have, and very overated by his supporters.

Watts will be a taller James Hird. Will go close to being the best player in the AFL, much better player than Neitz/Hurley.

Hurley had a marginally better season than Watts but in patches Watts played at a level beyond what Hurley is capable of.

Watts will end up the better player.

As we speak Hurley is the better player, by round 12 Watts will catch up to Hurley, by round 22 Watts will be a far better player than Hurley can and will be

If it came to a decision between Watts and Hurley I'd choose Watts every day and twice on Sunday.

Pity Hurley wont be playing for Essendon after next year though, ay Robbo?

Once Jack builds up his body and confidence we will see what he is capable of.

Not taking anything away for Hurley though, he is going to be a gun.

Has this same convo the other day with an Essendon supporter.

Even he admitted that Watts has caught up to Hurley, and will probably go past him in 2013.

I really hope we are able to hold on to Watts, i'm not sure how likely that is but if we could keep him i would be stoked

will go past Naitanui also, making a mockery of about 100,000 douchebags that have endlessly flapped their gums since 2009

Why?

Why not?

Hurley was ready made and produced early and was touted as 'THE NEXT BIG THING' in the Hereld Sun. He is not much better now than the day he was drafted.

Watts has improved big time, and while he still has me shaking my head sometimes, he looks like he might actually make improvement into the player we thought he might be.

At the moment Ollie Wines is making most of wish we drafted him. Maybe we should be patient with Toumpas and not bag the [censored] out of him at every chance?

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
