Strauss running?

About halfway down the article it mentions Strauss is running with Grimes and is apparently "not far away" from joining the main group.

Is anybody else stunned by this? Nathan Brown didn't get near a football ground for ages after wrecker took his leg off. Strauss' leg was still stuck in the turf fifteen feet behind him only a couple of months ago. This wasn't a round 1 injury, he hasn't had a full footy season to let it settle again...

I'm not saying it's all roses and he'll suddenly be back to 100% in a few weeks, but the fact he's upright and running stuns the bejeezus out of me. I had him written off for his career... but then I'm a cup half empty kind of guy.

I was thinking he might get a few games late next season, but he seems to be progressing far more quickly than we could have anticipated. I doubt we'll se ehim for round 1 or the NAB cup, but he could get half a season in at this rate.

There was something mentioned in another thread somewhere. Don't quote me, but it seems that it has come up much better than expected and that he'd be able to start full training in the New Year, and should be right by early in the season. Not by round 1, but a reasonable slab of the season is how I understood it. Of course, physical healing is only half of it, getting everything else back up to AFL level is something else again - as we saw with Blease.

Part truth part lazy reporting. James has been doing a full weights workout essentially since 3 weeks after the injury and has been on the bike since basically the same day. His fitness base would be fantastic however he hasn't started full blooded running until next week.

I heard Nathan Brown mention after the strauss injury that he thought he was fully recovered and he went back to full training but he kept breaking down and he said he should have rested for longer. I hope the same doesn't happen to strauss.

My physio (for ankle reco) works with a lot of footballers and mentioned to me when i asked that Brown and McGuire from Saints/Brissy were stuffed up bigtime by their club docs. Apparently they kept Browns screws in way too long and put too many in to begin with, and with McGuire, the surgeon stuffed up the operation from day one.

I think the article has said Strauss when they should have said Spencer.

Spencer and Grimes seemed to just run and run but away from the main groups and away from the recovery groups just running the boundry (Clark, Evans, Cook, Davey).

Strauss did come out. He did a little bit of jogging, some very short gentle kicks and then left the field early with Petterd, McKenzie and a few others. I was buoyed to see him out there at all and he was walking without a limp.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
