As for someone doing an ACL, if your aunty has a moustache, she's be your uncle as well.

I always thought the saying was "if your aunty had ball's she'd be your uncle", highlighting the pie in the sky nature of speculating about ifs!

To be honest this is pretty embarassing for all concerned. Says a fair bit about how serious they take this thing. Just scrap it fer god's sake.

Yes. Australia won both tests (series 2-0) and obviously on aggregate IIRC. Don't ask about the scores though...

Do you remember the exact scores from this years Grand Final ?

18 Goals 11 to 12 Goals 9 38 point victory i am pretty sure...i was fairly zonked by the last Quarter!!!!

Can't believe some of the posts here. Actually ... I can, typical.

Congrats to Brad. Being captain of an Australian team in any sport, under any circumstances is an achievement. There are 24 - no wait, 23 players in that squad, and if Brad wasn't the best candidate, Eade would have picked someone else.

Congratulations to Brad Green. He had a pretty ordinary season, but there was heaps going on at the club, and hopefully this brings his confidence up for a good 2012.

He reminds me of myself a bit Greeny; Handsome, gifted at a number of sports, after the weekend he'll have captained Australia in two of them (I was regrettably overlooked for captaincy of the Australian underwater hockey team). Actually, I now realise I'm not really like Greeny at all.

Great to see the love and support from the Dees fans here on the site.

Don't let loyalty or self-comparison get in the way of having a massive and anonymous backstab of the bloke who is the ever-loyal leader of our team, even if he did have a poor year on field. He's had plenty of absolute rippers, and hopefully will again.

So let's all petition the MFC to have our anthem changed to Janet Jackson's "What have you done for me lately?". Only then might Greeny be 'embarrassed' by his appointment to captain our country in sport.

I am sure Brad is rapt to be Captain...And Good Luck to Him.....BUT if he or Chippa get injured playing this Game i will be mighty pi$$ed orf.

My Beef is with The AFL for actually having this meaningless series.....The elite of the AFL have quietly said no....i wish that was the case with our Boys...

But if you wish to watch the game friday night, by all means do so,,,,I will be at the Movies...Footy season is over..Time to recharge the Batteries.

( good thing I had amenesia for 2011 and remember 2010 so fondly)

Well I guess because Green is a current captain and he has the soccer background and is probbaly the oldest player so it was obvious to make him captain. It makes me laugh big Maxy let it slip.

Thats the problem with AFL people, no one is prepared to embrace things. Years ago this series was a big deal and I know since they stopped making it every year its not a big a build up but I am one of those people going, mainly because club members got 40% off so it only costs me $9, and im looking foward to seeing Trengove, Frawley and green play. I was looking foward to Sylvia to.

Look at the NRL. They play State of Origin which is massive, and now they are overseas playing a 4 nations tournament. They love it and embrace it. We are to scared of a player getting hurt. A player can get hurt walking out there front door. If they get hurt they get hurt. If one of our players gets seriously injured or worse does a knee then yeah it would be horrible, but I bet Trengove and Frawley are excited about playing and being around other senior players. Maybe they can get some tips off some of the geelong players and watch how they go about things.

Actually it's funny, my beef isn't actually with the AFL and the series. I am proud that an MFC player with be leading the team out against the Irish, but I'm very disappointment with how the players of the AFL view this sport.

I love Australia playing anyone in just about any sport and I love to get behind them because it's theoretically our best vs their best, but this is clearly not the case here. As I said above, if the majority of the best players don't give a sh!t, why should we?

Sure, it is not a revered Guernsey...and the harder they push it, the less it will become....It is a Hybrid game that is played by no none. Apart from these.

Back in the 80's the Big V had meaning against the Croweaters particularly.

This does not come close...is that sad? Maybe. But it is reality

Just enjoy it, the players do.

Injuries? how stupid. ban preseason cos people get injured there too, and that's not even for australia.

We are going on friday and we will have a good time. Pity its not at the G though.

And Green/ He's played well on the international stage before and is well chosen to captain this team.

Take it as an honour for MFC, not an insult.

You lot are sounding like Denham or PatrickSmith. Enjoy life more, its much nicer that way.

At Etihad watching practice match--- Trengove starring.WE still have 3 playing.Captain,V/C, & Trengove, great representation for MFC even without Sylvia

Enjoy the Game...I will enjoy the Movies...Footy Season is over.

I pump money into the MFC, if a player is injured while training for the MFC, then ya deal with it.

IF a player employed by the MFC is injured on some other Tour of Duty i am not happy. That will not change.

But please enjoy the soulless surrounds of Etihad..you will pay for it!!!

As if this hybrid game wasn't already a joke. I'm a supporter of Green and congrats to him getting the captaincy nod, but seriously he was not a good captain this year.

Time was this was meant to be near to the best Aussie players vs the best the Irish had to offer, now they've got kids coming in, a small handful of AA nominations, and Green, who's probably only in there because he tried out for Man U as a kid, as captain.

The players have shown how they see this game, how are we meant to get behind it?

Talk about damning a bloke with faint praise and you're a supporter of his. FMD.

It has not involved the best players for about 10 years or so. Nice slur on Green though

Why do Melbourne supporters want to put Green down so much? MFCSS? He's played IR before twice (2004 and 2010), and is the only club captain in the team. That's why he's been given the job.

Indeed.

Losing the plot? I don't think so. I see through a rort JCB that's all. For Green & Chip to be "leading" Australia shows the true regard of the game at hand.

Our boys should be resting before coach Neeld gets stuck into them.

Tell that to Col!

I understand picking on the merit of this hybrid game but not the slurs on Green.

Green is a fairly obvious captain of the squad that has been assembled. Pull apart the merits of this too if you must.

Brad Green has been a fine player for MFC, let it be.

On another note, I'd love to see Chip Frawley as MFC captain.

Fair call, it was a bit of a backhanded compliment. I guess my point wasn't so much about Green rather than the state of the series.

I'm a supporter of him in that I back him as a Melbourne player, and his service to the club has been excellent but 2011 was not a good year for him both as a player and a captain. My initial comment was harsh at the time, I realise that, but representing you're country in your chosen field should mean something and with the squad their putting out it really doesn't seem to.

And IR hasn't involved the best players for about 10 years? Take a look at 2006, that'd be a bloody good team in anyone's book.

One bad year is all it takes around here to turn hero to villain. Think back 12 months. Brad was coming off his best year and a complete hero to many on here. He was the best and only clear choice for captain. Jake Spencer looked alright, Lynden Dunn was turning the corner, Martin had a bad year and was a certainty to be delisted. Guess what? things change in football very quickly.

Its time to put the Green hating away for awhile.

He has been named captain of the Australian team for heavens sake. Congratulations Brad.

Season 2012 is behind you. Time to have some fun and enjoy your footy again.

I for one will be watching and hoping you do well.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
