The Josh Caddy Thread

If the story re Caddy wanting to relocate back to Melbourne so he could be close to his ill father is true, then you have to wonder just how much effort he is going to be willing to put into his on-field performance next year.

Essendon was probably screwed - what could they really offer? Pick 18 wasn't enough and if you read between the lines probably one of our compo picks wasn't enough either. GC traded away all their later picks including that pick 26 to Richmond - they appear somehow to be only taking pick 24 - as JT says, I'm not sure how that works - they seem to have their own set of rules.

Will be interesting to see if we activate both compo picks at the start of next year.

I would like to know what we offered GC for Caddy. Can't believe they would knock back a compo pick and a player or lower pick. They did get Warnock. If he wants to leave he goes into PSD next year if not traded home. I would get into him now if we want him and keep him on side. Of course we would only talk to his manager not him.

Redleg I heard the GC guy on SEN say Melbourne was never involved, not sure where that came from.

And he will be waiting till the end of 2012 before he makes any decisions about 2013.

It doesn't seem as though they would have wanted another player or another pick - they've got pick 24 and they traded away all their other picks (down to 85) - seems like they wanted a high pick or two. I'd imagine they were asking for both compos for say Caddy and 24 or 26 and we didn't want to go there - that's a deal we wouldn't do for Crouch either. GC ended up trading 26 + an end of 2nd round compo to Richmond for an end of 1st round compo.

That makes sense to me because if we wanted to get him we would have. He may have told us he wasn't interested.

Which would surely have indicated that he didn't really want to go home for the reasons he was giving GC so I'd discount that possibility.

I reckon we couldn't get to talk turkey with GC because they were locked in mediation with Essendon and when that finished it was all too late.

To be honest, I think both GC & Essendon inadvertently screwed us.

Essendon with their pigheaded determination to get GoldCoast to take pick 19 & a few potato cakes, meant that GC were ties up in mediation and we didn't get enough opportunity to negotiate with them.

Gold Coast in willingness to waste time & not get a deal done in time, although appearing to try.

Partly because they'd like to keep Caddy, and partly because they need to send a message to the other interstate kids.

In the end, I'm pretty happy to have added a piece like Clark and got something back for Warnock, all while managing to keep both of our compo picks.

Shame Bate couldn't be moved though.

I very much doubt his value will increase in 2012.

And seriously, what the hell use is mediation in this context?

Essendon asking really really nicely if GC doesn't mind getting screwed in a rubbish trade?

What use is an impartial referee in this process?

It just prolongs a stalemate.

That is ridiculous. We talked to them about Warnock. All we need to do is ring Caddy;'s manager, get his ok to deal and then offer a compo pick to GC and maybe a player and they keep Warnock pick as well. The deal would have been done. I don't think we went hard for him. Were we just waiting around to see if the mediation failed at 1.55 and then have minutes to deal? I think we were half hearted unlike Clark and that is the result. Maybe it is the result we really wanted, to have our compo picks next year.

We traded Warnock to them, so obviously they wanted him... why couldn't we include Warnock in a deal to get Caddy?

If the mediation process ate all our time, why couldn't we present a deal when the Warnock deal was made? Seems odd.

As I said a few posts earlier - GC didnt really want to deal, they just wanted to look like they were trying to.

I'm happy with this whole situation.

I like Caddy, would have liked to have obtained his services, but I doubt he's connected to one of Neeld's 'holes' in the list.

We keep our picks.

Essendon got screwed and frustrated.

GC did themselves no favours being so pig headed, especially considering Caddy's father's situation. I'm sure Caddy would be upset, that in turn effects the team mates close to him, probably also Victorians.

The Vic clubs will swarm all over GC as their talent starts to develop and come out of contract.

But really it's just great seeing Essendon fail.

I'd say the comp picks were only really up for the mini draft, MFC have banked them for next year....

one to trade and one to use....

What is this 'Mediation' rubbish?

Who calls for it?

I can understand Carlton calling for Mediation when Fremantle demanded 2 first round picks for Warnock.

But Essendon calling for it when they cant get away with paying under's just wrong. Glad they didn't get him.

yeah, I wonder if we decided O'night to keep our 2 comp's for a tilt at the best Option next year or after.

Our 2nd comp' pick would be better spent next year as we climb the ladder in years to come, but the mid round pick will hold its current value.

I'd be hopeful that 1 or 2 players will want to return home next year. Maybe Gaff or a Prestia or other. Dangerman, or we can use our picks ourselves.

I agree. It almost sounds as if the dons cooked up an scheme to try to get a cheap shot at a cheap buy, and things started to wobble a bit. Looks like Caddy wanted to carry Hirds bag for him & him alone.

The stories fallen over and he's stayed put, for another, Day?

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
