Impossible to be happy or sad as we don't have any information on him.

Yeah the Collingwood players talked him up, but every assistant coach who is looking for a senior gig is talked up.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. We cannot possibly know.

What I hope is that he has a senior coach personality. It's one thing having a great footy knowledge and being sound tactically, but it's another thing to have the right style and personality to be able to get the best out of your players individually and as a team. Most aspiring coaches don't have this and that's why it's bloody hard to find the right one. I sure hope Neeld does.

I also wouldn't mind a nasty streak. The top three coaches in the league are currently seen as Lyon, Malthouse and Clarkson - nasty, fiercely competitive and ruthless individuals.

Tadpoles don't turn into fish. B)

LOL

Neither do tagpoles..

Another smokescreen perhaps?

[censored] it, I give up.. I'm just waiting for an announcement. I heard Garry Ayres is a strong chance too. Whatever.

Posted

Slotting Neil Craig in some sort of capacity would be ising on the cake.

If true we need to announce soon, get in their before the crows and the dogs, so it gives the impression that we got Neeld before anyone else....

I think the club are handling this beautifully at the miniute. No leaks and Lyon IMO last night knew exactly what he was doing.

Its our timetable, not the media's or other clubs - who cares on the wait if it mean GL is sewing up the deal with support team if that means a senior Craig type.

The economics work well also in this scenario

Posted

Well before the above timeline started and a couple of weeks before Bailey made his exit from the club, a certain betting agency had Neeld down as favourite for the MFC coaching job.

Make of that what you will.

I think the articles possess a confidence greater than the usual speculation, along with your post I think we can glean that this is fair dinkum, this time...I think.

Would love it if we end up with a Neeld/Burns/Craig trifecta!

Posted

Can someone please call Matty Knights, and tell him to stop faxing his resume to the club. This position is now filled.

Posted

Prefer Bailey to Neeld.

Give me experience or we fired the wrong bloke.

Alright, your choice is Peter Rohde or Matthew Knights. Get cracking.

I don't want a coach who has had ANYTHING to do with Richmond in ANY capacity!

They have a worse culture of losing than we do!

caro has called it (not the new fake caro on twitter either..

here

WOW - he won a premiership with Ocean Grove and is a school teacher - so that is part of the make-up of a successful AFL coach? Spare me!

Posted

Well hes coached his own teams. Caoched 4 successive premierships in a row. No mean feat. He tightened up the Filths Defence and then got their midfield up and running... in 2010 and this year. Mickey rates him higher than Scott ( Brad)

He coached Collingowood in some of their NAB cup games. They won that gig .

He doesnt sound too shabby does he.

Hes VERY ambitious by all accounts

So your ruling out Malthouse

Posted

Who do you want? Put the Malthouse/Roos/Matthews pipedreams aside for a second and tell me which 'experienced' coach would be a better option. I'd have Williams or Laidley if available. Then you've got Eade, Craig and ... Damien Drum?

More than happy to go along with Neeld if it's true. Obsession with having a coach who you've heard of it before is madness. May as well sign up Gerard Neesham and Ken Judge in a dream team.

Good call... Mick Malthouse is not coaching next year. Rodney Eade has shown he doesn't have the defensive press down at all. Paul Roos can rot in hell for all the [censored] he's been saying about us this year, to a lesser extent so can Leigh Mathews.. Craig also shows that he doesn't have a plan B along the same lines as Bailey.

I want someone with some [censored] in them. Along the lines of Chris and Brad Scott. (This i hope Neeld has) Someone that has been involved in the defensive press someone that has been under the best coach and most successful team for more than 1 or 2 years like Viney was.

I still haven't heard any word about whether he's mean enough. I'd like a coach who is actually willing to get angry at the players.

I don't find anything more refreshing on this forum than when instead of insight people crack jokes.

Eade, Malthouse, Laidley or Williams are all viable candidates.

In future reference keep your jokes for around the workplace.

Seen the Collingwood midfield lately ?

I am not one to judge a coach as I dont know enough. However why do l feel like we are replacing Dean Bailey with Dean Bailey? Senior Assistant at premiership winning club. Played VFL but was a battler. Appears to be an educator and a builder of young mens confidence.

Well failing to land a big Frog didn't work & either did settling for an untried Fry?

Thought I would mix it up - Anyway I have now read Neeld's CV a little closer &

I am begining to warm to this rumour.

Hope he bring's Pendlebury with him just to make me rest a little easier.

Like I said I wasn't excited about Northey & that ended up being my finest Demon supporting era to date.

Like Viney? Apparently he told the players so great home truth and we lost to Richmond and Port... We need a coach that is up with the current style of play. We aren't even competitive.

You know the second and fourth ones are absolutely viable do you? Talk about insight, just naming anybody who hasn't told us to [censored] off already. Big thumbs up for red hot guesswork.

If Gary Lyon praises his interviews and presentation then we'll be going through Déjà vu

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
