"We are not a great club"- Gary Lyon.

I Cringed.

Discuss

I didn't see TFS so I don't know the context, but it seems like a legitimate comment to me. Right now we are not a great Club, more like a wreck of a club with a great history. Actually, it's been a very long time since we were a great club.

We are barely a club at all at the moment.... CLUB implies we have some sort of organisation pursuing mutual objectives

Well done GL...call it as it is

The comment was made from the perspective of where we sit currently in the landscape. It wasn't a historical reference.

We are a shizen club at present.

Garry was great IMO.

Agreed. The way he told Jeff Kennett to shove it was about as strong as I've seen anyone at the MFC for a long time.

+1.

Handled the whole situation superbly.

Handled it well I thought but time will tell with this appointment, I'm not 4 it for reasons previously stated . Was definitely talking in the present tense

The great club is fossilized and needs to be reborn

Yes.... he did it superbly

(Only problem was that he should have mentioned the hypocrisy in other clubs carrying on about tanking. The only thing we did wrong was to wait until after Collingwood, Hawthorn ( yes Jeff!), St Kilda and Carlton before we did it!!)

Love Gazza, and so glad to see him back at the club. Did well on the show tonight, and hopefully he can do equally well at the MFC.

Don't forget the Bulldogs in that list of tankers. They dropped a player who kicked five goals in the second last game of the season the year they tanked, yet I saw David Smorgon making sanctimonious comments about what Bailey said at his press conference.

They are all a bunch of hypocrites including the AFL which is totally conflicted on a while range of issues ATM. The worst of these is the situation with Phil Davis who clearly has come to an agreement with GWS. It proves Jimmy's comments earlier in the year that the AFL's rules on the new franchises might cause young men to tell lies. I have a feeling there aren't going to be any mirrors in the Giants' club rooms to save the players from looking at their own faces.

As to Garry, I think the comment he made about the club's status are pretty well right. After this week's events I would have cringed if he said we were a great club. Also, his response to Jeff Kennett's jibes was magnificent and the first indication from a Melbourne figure that we're not going to take this shit from other clubs any more. I hope the players take note and follow suit.

I also liked Brayshaw's summation of the good things that have happened under Jimmy's watch, including the debt demolition, the move to AAMI Park and the club's much improved relationship with the MCC and the AFL.

The snipers who have been chipping away at Jimmy and his board should be ashamed of themselves for their perfidious conduct. I think it's great that Garry's put his hand up to help a mate and to help his old club. I hope it works.

Thanks Jack you have saved me think and typing time.

100% correct and covered my thoughts perfectly.

Now all we need is the players to have a red hot go tomorrow.

This is going to sound as cheesy as buggery, and it is probably something that you would do in Grade 3, but the players and administration could take something from it...

What is a CLUB? What makes a great CLUB? Are we willing to be a great CLUB or just happy to go along as teh Melbourne Football Team?

To break it down;

C is for Courage. We have a President who is willing to put his own life on the line for the red & blue, that's courage.

L is for Leadership. We seem to be lacking it on and off the ground.

U is for Unity. Simon Black's speech when getting his Norm Smith medal highlights how important unity is within premiership teams.

B is for Belief. Like Robbie Flower said about his younger days, his team, regardless of who they were playing, would turn up every weekend with the belief that they were going to win.

While others will have their own words for the above, these are 4 areas that help make a great CLUB. I want to see the Melbourne Football CLUB as of tomorrow, and know that each area in non-negotiable is terms of dropping off...Ever.

He is saying the right things in my opinion, would have loved to hear what he had to say on TFS, sounds like some truths were told, and some people cant handle that the club obviously isnt right atm

Kennett and Smorgan can shut the Frak up, wtf your clubs a joke Smorgs look in the mirror

Did you see Wona at Training he is not named in either Casey side this weekend.

Surely he is not injured or has he gone home again?

Wonaeamirri will need time to properly rebuild his fitness, just like when he first returned from a break after his father's funeral.

So why not play him in the Scorps reserves even if just for a half

He won't get fit watching the others run around

I'm not a sports science or fitness expert.

I just know what the club did with Wonaeamirri earlier in the preseason, after a similar situation.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
