If you're asking me ... oh yes. Two weekends ago. Knocked back four or five of them at the Dalton bar in S t KIlda and paid for it for about 5 days thereafter. Shocking stuff!

Yep. Nup. Never again... Neeeeever again.

Surely we'll draft Freddie Clutterbuck from East Perth. That's a living nickname.

Forget Jaeger Bombs, if your really want to neck yourself have a Berlin Wall. Take a pint glass, put a bomb in it, top it up 75% with beer and fill the rest with Smirnoff Black. Smells like death, tastes like magic, sends men to their graves.

Sounds like a quality drink, anyway.

Giants hold the key for young bloods

Gold Coast's (current) pick 4 would surely get the deal done, much to the dismay of the other clubs given the Suns' already long list of young talent. Not only that, it would leave GWS holding picks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 in this year's draft.

Guest Artie Bucco

I'd trade Morton for one of these picks, and he is around the mark of what they should cost, in spite of what many may believe.

I read somewhere that if Tom Scully does go we could end up with Jaeger O'Meara. It would involve something like trading our compo picks back to GWS.

Also, if indeed Scully goes, I reckon we should throw a huge amount at Pendels next year will be a free agent and was a dees supporter.

It would be great if we could. I'd first offer something like a compo pick + Morton first (you never know, it just might work). I wouldn't give the compo picks away willy nilly, though (if Scully goes, i think he will).

Having 3 first round picks in the 2012 "super draft" is mighty tantalising. Would it be worth throwing the kitchen sink (both compo picks) back at GWS for Patton, effectively making it a Scully for Patton trade. As they say, a quality tall is always more valuable than a quality small.

The idea of having Patton the forward line is appealing but is it really required with jurrah, watts and even potentially gawn down as our talls, I agree with the first poster and say we should go for another gun midfielder, lets face it there will be a vacancy there very shortly

As well as Gawn who can play forward, we have Cook the All Australian CHF, the forgotten Jack, ( Fitzpatrick ) all 200cms of him, the most improved player in the AFL Stef Martin and maybe even Tom McDonald, who might play forward. Together with who we might draft in the future and Watts and Jurrah, we should be well off for tall forwards.

and probably a few could fill it as well. Grimes to come back for starters.. Viney later on as well ( a littel wait I concede...lol )

My point is weve played a lot of games without Scully.. we can actually fill the void from within. Others coming through as well..etc.

Omeara is interesting though :)

I would be happier if we went out and got a commensurate replacement as soon as possible (and if possible).

I don't like the fact that losing an influential 20 year old will push back our window.

I don't think Pendlebury will be available but getting Boak or similar would make me feel better about things.

GOOD POINTS RAISED---I'd even throw in the antique back yard dunny..to get Patton...he'd sit well in the pocket alongside Fev,Cook, next year.

I still believe that if we lose Scully, I will be upset but will also move on quickly, we can have a massive win from the compo picks we receive. I have posted my plan a few times and this plan would see us getting Viney, O'meara or one of the 17yo picks up for grabs and maintain the compo picks we will get if Scully does go which should be around pick 10 and around pick 20.

My plan again, in 2012 we are getting Jack Viney under father son, from early indications it will cost us our first pick in the national draft which doesn't include any compo picks we may receive if Scully goes. I am 98% Ox confident that for these 17 yo kids you can sell future draft picks, and there has been recent articles in the media about GWS wanting future picks rather than players. The plan involves us trading our first round 2012 pick to GWS add a player to help may be one you mention. If GWS accept this our first pick in the draft excluding compo picks will be a round 2 pick which would be given up for Viney. We then have what should be two of the best 17yo committed to our club this year plus the compo picks we will get for Scully should he go to GWS which should be 2 picks inside the top 20 picks.

Once again I hope Scully stays, but if he goes and we can pull off the plan we are going to get some very good talent to replace him. My plan hinges on the ability on trading future picks to GWS that aren't compo picks, but reading the Adelaide article and a few other things I think we can do this.

Wow, very clever if you are in fact correct! And could offer us a serious silver lining if Tom does go (I still desperately don't want him to). It sounds a bit unrealistic us being able to trade our 2012 round 1 pick however. I mean, that could be either pick 1 or 18, big difference there for GWS' decision… This trading for 17 yo's business still confuses me!

If anyone can confirm/explain this further, please!

I would throw absolutely everything possible at Patton, he's the sort of player you can build a premiership around. No way GWS would let us get him though. O'Maera still sounds exciting!

You can't trade future draft picks even for GWS 17yos - I'm not sure where you got that idea - I'd love to see a source. We can trade the compo picks to GWS though and they have a 5 year life spab so are in effect "future" picks.

The rule for F/S is that you have to give your next available pick after the nominating club's pick. F/S comes before the trade so we will have our regular 1st rounder. It's not clear whether compensation 1st rounders come into play but I suspect they do if you've nominated to use them in that year.

Pendlebury was drafted in 2005 - 2012 will be his 7th year. Restricted FA comes in at 8 years service.

If,,, we were to get compo picks for Sculls If he left to GWS,,,, And we got something for a hypothetical Morton trade. I think we'd be better trying to organise a way of getting a go at O'Meara,,, plus trying to entice a Gun mature player @ the end of 2012, through that trade period.

If Pendles was available, maybe. We should know how the 'GYS' is shaping by this time next year. I don't think we need Patton, but a good power forward which we may have already. Next year will show how our young guys are traveling.

But we do need a 'Craig Bradley' impersonator badly,,,, a 'Cyril' & a 'LeCras' type.

I thought you could trade future picks, Compo picks I know do not come into calculation for Father son, just like priority picks.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
