RIP Sean Wight.....gutsy to a fault, exciting to the max, just a great player to have in the team you support. And with Jimmy, a TRUE pioneer. Too soon, too sad.

I have already tweeted my thoughts to the Club, I think the interview with Jim and the Tribute on the Club site are all class, and everybody involved deserves a big thank you.

Terrible news. RIP Sean. Im relatively young so i dont remember a lot of him but hes certainly left a great legacy at Melbourne. Its blokes like these that make footy clubs a great place to be around and Melbourne is certainly much better off for his services. We will not forget and i hope the boys can have a big win for him tonight! Sincere condolensces to his family and friends in this hard time!

We called him Irish, but he was a true Scot. Determination and Brave Heart!

arguably the best MFC team 87-88 i've seen to date

Does anyone know what we doing to pay our resepcts. I know we are wearing black armbands which is a given but I know it isnt our home game but I think a 1 minute silence is warranted to remember this great player.

Its a shame that our next home game isnt until july 24th. Then we could do something at the mcg for him. Maybe show a video of his career on the scoreboard and get his mum or one of his sisters to toss the coin before the game.

Fearless player with unquestionable courage, was a highly-rated defender during an era that boasted three of the game's greatest all-time forwards in Lockett, Dunstall and Ablett.

Condolences to Sean's family and the entire MFC community.

A sad day for all lovers of AFL. One of my fondest memories is of watching Sean Wight, at every opportunity, climbing all over the back of Gary Ablett Snr at the MCG. Ablett's frustration grew and grew as the match went on resulting in a clear win to Wight on the day. Sean was an inspiration and a delight to watch. He is an example of what one can do with dedication, determination and a touch of desperation.

Condolences to all who were close to him.

How many of us can only hope to be remembered as fondly as he will be?

Heard Neil Balme on SEN this morning say he was the most fearless footballer he coached or played with.

And a throughly nice bloke as well.

I have fond memories of watching him play.

R.I.P. Sean Wight.

A top bloke & gentleman to all. I met Sean many times over many years & he was one of my favourite Dees & players. Underated as a player regularly matching or beating the games best.

I just wanted to add my respects to this honour roll as I've been off the 'air' with PC problems...

Thanks Sean for the footy memories,,, as well as the pleasure to know you.

Thoughts are with the Wight families & loved ones.

Another memory of Sean that I'd like to recall for all Demonlanders was from the 1989 Foster's Cup night grand final against Geelong at VFL Park.

I'm sure many of you will remember it, but on the outer wing he tore his hamstring. Determined not to beaten, he pushed himself despite the injury to knock the ball to our advantage and what resulted in a goal. It was sheer desparation and just one of the thousands of sacrifical acts he made during his career. Don Scott was Channel Seven's special comments man in those days and raved about Sean's courage.

There's also another classic piece of Sean Wight vision from that same season - some of you may still have it on tape. It happened in a home-and-away match against West Coast in Perth. Swooper Northey pushed Sean forward where he took a mark outside the 50 metre line near the boundary. As Sean was deciding whether to pass it off or have a shot, you could see an Eagles doctor or physio sitting on the boundary scream, "have a shot you whimp". Sean gladly accepted the challenge and without fuss went back and slotted it through for a goal. It was classic.

And finally, who can ever forget his soccer goalie-like spoils that highlighted our famous 1987 finals series? Tim Lane on ABC TV that season described him as "spectacular".

And he was. I for one will never forget him. He stands tall as one our club greats. We will miss him. A demon through and through.

What a fantastic tribute. I saw most of Sean's games and spoke to him quite a few times and he was a great footballer and and even greater bloke. That has brought tears to my eyes. Gone but never forgotten, RIP Sean.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
