The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Perhaps we should have a fourth category; embarrassing.

That's what we were today in front of 76,000 people and a large television audience.

I'd like to hear from the ones that were so vocal and so confident about the direction we were headed after we beat Essendon last week.

We are flat track bullies who can beat other teams that are on their knees (sometimes) but struggle to be even competitive against any team that has a modicum of talent or game plan.

We were [censored] against North and St Kilda and they have been beaten consistently this year; if we were any good we would have beaten them.

Now roll out the stats and the age of the players, and how we have 3 more players than them that have played less that 50 games blah blah blah...

Did they? I dont think so. But well done on the voice of reason.

FWIW, I think most posters realised the win against Essendon came with qualifications to it.

Would that include the ones who posted on the I owe Dean Bailey and apology thread and the various other threads where anyone that had queried the party line was blasted?

Kick Outs - Zts a positive if we get it to a throw in at centre wing.

I'd rather have the job of being Osama Bin Laden's sacrificial wife than have the job Strauss had today with the kickins. "Here son, here's the ball. Your 17 team mates are all within 75 metres of you, they're all manned up on, and not a single one of them is actually moving. Good luck."

So, if in doubt and you can't kick it to a 2 on 5, kick it 20 metres over the boundry line, that'll stuff 'em.

I've had it with Jurrah's workrate. Drop him for next week and make him earn his spot.

+1 - "jog it Jurrah". He would get a possie, and then WALK or JOG, rather than run and provide an option. Twice he walked to square with the player with the ball. May as well hold up a sign "Dont kick it to me!".

Sublime player, but needs to work a lot harder. Either injured or lazy. Both are reasons for a rest.

Anyone involved with the MFC coming out a saying the cliché lines in responses to the loss. (It was an unacceptable loss, we have to get out on the track this week and look each other in the eye. We let ourselves down and our supporters down, it was our biggest game of the year and we got embarrassed.

Morton - good when he has a role

That's a very insightful comment I think. Looking back, all of his best games have been when he's had a very clear role to play. Perhaps using him in tagging type roles for the rest of the year will be good for him? He could go to Pavlich next week.

Apparently a couple of the Storm coaches gave us tackling lessons last week, that was what I was referring to there... Didn't seem to work to well today... Actually, now that I think of it, maybe this current team is simply uncoachable?!

Oh I know the Storm coaches came over to show us how they do it, and I understand the reasons why,

(Swans have been doing it for years up here) but clearly that didn't either sink in or catch on or they didn't want to do it.

But the Storm also won their match today and often out tackle their opposition.

So no blaming of the league boys here, they clearly know what they are teaching ;) !!!

Actually cloke kicked 3 from terrible turn overs where he just sat in the square, and two that were from kicks that he had to stretch to even mark which gave Rivs no chance at all. We made cloke look better than he actually was.

Correct.....how he was left 50m in the clear.....twice, just beggars belief! Train wreck coaching.

The Good

Sylvia - if he doesn't win the Bluey this year, something has gone seriously wrong.

Watts

Strauss

Howe

The Bad

Brad Green - especially his 2nd efforts.

Tackling.

Players not being aware of each other, bumping into each other, spoiling each other in the air, handballing to a target that was surrounded by opposition

Our chip kicking inside 50.

Jurrah. Casey beckons

Scully's field kicking (Marc Murphy's was this bad early on, by the way)

Gysberts. Was he on the ground?

The Ugly

Our disposal under pressure

Our crowded set up at stoppages that demands 5 or more dinky little handballs to get it only 10 metres away from the original contest.

Being 36 points down at the 5 minute mark of the last quarter, to lose by 88.

Watching the repeat of One Week At A Time over lunch (and yes you can make any assumption about my world that you please to) where Quartermaine

and Lloyd were discussing the horribleness of yesterday for the Dees and Lloyd managed to single out Jack Watts (and only Jack Watts) to put his boot into,

saying he didn't put enough effort into a chase and just ran to the closest Pie available, so to Lloyd it looked like Jack was only putting in a token effort.

Now I have to ask that for all the awfulness that we and the media witnessed yesterday why is it that Watts is the only one that is singled out for criticism?

When in truth he was far from our worst, actually (despite fading in the fourth) one of better players out there. I feel sorry for the kid.

Just curious of peoples opinions......

Morton did a few nice things but for the most part spent his day either like a slow tram meandering up and down a line halfway between the centre square and the boundary line and a high orbiting satellite, stuck in geostationary orbit around any contest. When he's not first in line he just doesn't go.

i totally agree. he never looks interested either.

The Good

Sylvia

Watts first 10 minutes

Howe improving

The band I think it was My friend the Chocolate Cake singing our theme song just before the pre match stuff finished on keyboard. I liked the version

Bugle boy getting drowned out at the end by the siren

When the siren went

The Bad

Getting smashed out of the centre

Brad Green missing a goal that he would have kicked 99 out of 100 times last year

Green dropping an easy chest mark 2 minutes later

Morton twice in the last quarter not contesting with Brown and letting him fly for 2 marks

Howe kicking a goal and only 1 player going over to him

The Ugly

Our kick outs. Even I know that we do a little kick to ourselves then kick it out near the boundary

Watching poor Rivers getting thrashed by Cloke

The last quarter

The players apologising again on radio to fans for the loss. Stop aplogising and do something about it

Nathan Jones deciding to handball and turned it over

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
