I havnt seen this posted but havnt seen every post.

MELBOURNE has confirmed it would have used pick No.3 to secure outstanding young midfielder Jack Viney - if the Giants or Suns had have made a bid for him in Monday’s father/son meeting.

Awesome news re JV, and what made it sweet were the tweets as mentioned by others, leave spud Dawes at Collingwood, I don't want Collingwood discards and as if they would let the cream go. But back on topic, the next season for me will give the MFC a chance to draw a line under the 'tanking' years and become a fair dinkum club again.

Sounds like we are keeping picks 4 and 13 so we will end up with something like

In:

Mids - Wines, Kennedy, Viney

Forwards - Hogan, Dawes, Byrnes

Out:

Mids : Moloney, Bate, Martin

Forwards: Green, Lawrence, Petterd

Pretty good looking inclusions into the team.

Is Viney allowed to start training at the start of pre-season or does he actually need to wait until after he is drafted at the national draft?

Been training with us for a year or 2 already. Will still be on a slightly more restricted program than the senior players, as the young guys often over-train.

Viney on SEN 20 minutes time, roughly 530

Shwarta opening with he is Harder than his Dad,

MArk Allen nearly chokes, you must be kidding

I was fortunate to cross paths with Lachlan Hunter's old man a few weeks ago and he indicated what is really the general consensus in the football industry, that is, that Jack is a tough as they come, hard at it and approximately another dozen adjectives (some of them colourful) along those lines describing how determined and hard he is on the field.

I have heard similar, mainly that he is the Hardest player to play U18's since Hodge or ever

Yeah, Harrington did confirm this afterwards.

(Would have used pick 3.)

I see no need to reveal this. Something along the lines of "we know where we ranked Jack, and he knows, so there is no need to go there" would have done.

Have a look at that. Jack and Jones in the middle next year will be great. I think Jones would be rapt to have another big body in there helping him.

The thing is I couldnt give 2 hoots scully left now. Look what we have got. I reckon Viney could sit him on his backside next year. Dont even care Moloney has quit. There is a much younger ready made replacement for him who can get the ball and isnt afraid of hard work. I reckon neeldy would love coaching him.

Hello fellow MFC tragics - long time reader of Demonland over the years - however as you can see my contributions have been sparse. Thought I might add my two bobs worth to the JV discussion - thought I might as well. This thread appears to be petering out somewhat don't you think??

If you can all indulge me for just one minute and please excuse what some might call the hyperbole that is going to follow here - make no mistake, today is a truly magnificent day in the life of our much beloved MFC. MFC supporters one and all should rejoice at how events transpired today. In my humble and certainly uneducated view, JV was worth every bit of Pick 3 - to grab him for Pick 26 is a steal. Will be viewed down the track as crime of the century I reckon - particularly if we use our 3 first rounders wisely and strike some gold there too.

All in all a great outcome for all of us (poor, long suffering, desperate for even a flicker of hope, light at the end of the tunnel, etc) who have been agonising over the JV matter (for years I suspect for some!!) and now we can all sit back, relax in the knowledge that we have JV in the bag - and 3 first round picks to play with in the upcoming trade/draft.

Yep - life is good today. Not that often we can feel this way as MFC supporters so we should all kick back and dream about what might be for next year and beyond - and perhaps some of us might even be tempted by a one or two of the activities mentioned in the attached link - hope it works ok, first attempt at linking!

The lyrics pretty much sum up how I've been feeling after hearing the glorious news as I was driving out to Cranbourne this morning to watch a horse I have a small interest in have his first official trial. Horse ran well and we snagged Jack for a second round pick - doesn't get much better than that!!

Enjoy!!

PS. How remiss of me - welcome to the MFC Jack Viney!!

It says something how many people have come out of the wood work to post about the JV recruitment, the club has obviously ticked a big box with it's supporters. I pay my membership every year thick or thin, in the knowledge I might only see one game every second year, but I have to admit, it will give me more pleasure paying for the family for 2013.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
