Viney has been assessed as 8th best buy professional analysts.

If u think he is better - that’s a separate argument.

A hard negotiator would make the Suns aware that the MFC won’t be using #3 to recover Viney, if they select him at #2.

The Suns would then know that they would be using their valuable No 2 pick on an 8th ranked player.

The Suns hierarchy later would go ballistic if they find their recruiters have taken an 8th best player at No 2. The net result would be that they pass on the 2nd best ranked player & we probably pick him up. Then the late 2014 threat that Viney goes to the draft after 2 years. The Suns are facing a lose/lose option IF WE HAVE THE FORTITUDE TO PLAY HARD BALL(?).

And if the Suns genuinely believe we won’t activate the F&S rule they CAN NOT SELECT Viney unless they really want him over however is No 2..

Our recruiter/selectors are duty bound to pick the best available player by taking a hard cold approach.

Football is way too serious for heart to rule head on this one. Take the small risk.

Whatever the price, we must pay it. We are in the midst of an era whereby players will jump ship. Scully & Goddard have set the scene. How many times did Goddard fist his St.Kilda heart? Players won't tolerate playing for chronic basketcases anymore. Money and success will mean more to most.

Even if Viney is considered a pick 6, the MFC must get him at any cost. Viney is an extremely rare commodity. Hard, tough, no-nonsense and WANTS to play for the MFC. Who has wanted to come here in the past few decades? Don't give me that fringe ageing superannuant we signed a few days ago either.

This club already has the Naitanui egg on its face. It won't double-dip by missing out on a young Lenny Hayes who will lead the red'n'blue.

It's funny how many usually talk tough when the heat is on, but then turn to water with gooey sentiment.

The club is right, 'We will choose the best player available with our pick 3.

Only IF MFC think he's number 3 choose him. The Sun's play games and choose Viney to try and get us to bid. Stuff 'em, have him. He's said he'll go, he's a big boy, he'll be fine.

Having said that, I'd love Viney in the 2nd round. Bloody awesome!!

It's Viney at pick 3,DONE!

Only the MFC could [censored] this up.

Cale Morton won the Larke Medal and he's been $hitting himself ever since at AFL level.

We need Viney at ANY cost to show our peaheart mids (bar Jones) what tough contested footy is.

This is a very important point that some naysayers are missing. the rest of the top rounder potentials might look good at the under 18 level kjust like Cale and a few others did but couldnt make the next step. We know Viney CAN make the next step as he scored 29 disposals twice at VFL level.

Neeld said that he thinks the club knows where they rate Viney and all the other clubs do as well - then why the snakes and mirrors? if they stuff this up and it backfires this will be regarded as the worst decision since Norm Smith's sacking or Woewodin's trading LOL

Hey smart guy, how did Whitfield go in the test results ? You know, the stand out pick one. He doesn't feature either.

They're just great footballers, which DC can't measure.

Whitfield came off thw flu just before the combine and going in was expected to break records such as the beep test and 3km time trail.

Viney wasn't

lucky Biffo never had to run a time trial or do a beep test.

We Must get him at pick 26. Anything else would be deemed as failure.

Lol.... how would taking the hardest guy and best inside mid in the draft, not to mention a great leader, at pick 3 be deemed a failure?

Yes, I saw that, but I was still surprised by his time of 3.15 seconds for the 20 metre sprint.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
