WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

No, GWS MD 2 for pick 3

I just get the feeling that we will want one of Toumpas or Grundy. Your scenario would rule that out.

What if we offered 13 plus a player, say Petterd for Caddy and maybe Toy and maybe a swap of draft picks after the second round. That way your scenario of pick 4 for MD pick is more likely, with maybe GWS giving their second round pick to us.

The permutations can give you a migraine.

It seems like GC want to keep pick 2 and yet have ruled out two players Crows would want in exchange. Maybe that is posturing and pick 13 and a player would get their deal done.

At the end of the day I just want us to come out saying we had a great October, because we certainly had a pathetic April-August.

This is why we need him. If others are saying he isnt a top 3 then why are gold coast looking at him. YOu know why because he is ready to go. I love his passion and you know he would be devastated if we dont get him. I like it how he has come out and said this.

The ovbious thing is do we want a kid that we know will be at our club for 10 years who is ready to go round 1 and is tough and doesnt hold back or do we get a kid who has potential but may never live up to it. Lets remember we chose morton at 4.

Says if we don't pick him he won't come back to us - he will make us 'pay'.

Bit weird this story coming out. "I don't owe anything to Melbourne aside from my Dad playing there."

Clearly he doesn't want to go to the Gold Coast but this article worries me.....

You're kidding aren't you? I am not worried by the article, but super impressed!

The guy is a professional footballer first, not a lackey for the MFC. He is also only 18. He is saying that he wants to come to the MFC NOW, but if he doesn't, he will play his heart out for whoever has the faith in him. If every player was actually secretly hatching a plan to come to the club they barracked for as a kid (or that their Dad played at) before they even kicked an AFL ball in anger, that would be far greater cause for concern.

I also object to the title saying he has threatened us. Not at all. He is saying he will offer his loyalty to whoever offers it to him.

I can't blame him for saying what he said. After all he is going to be a professional player not a MFC fan. We as fans would do anything for the club so in turn we would come back to Melbourne after 2 years but if I was Viney I would shove it up the MFC as well if they didn't pick me.

I cannot believe this, amateur hour again at the MFC! Obviously the correct response would be to say that he understands we have to go with the best pick available, and that hopefully he can one day make it to the MFC. That would cast some doubt into GWS/GC and maybe scare them out of screwing us over. He has gone and done the complete opposite, in effect gauranteeing the Suns will now nominate him and we lose what might have been a 'free' top 3 player. Isn't anyone at the club, including his father, smart enough to work out what to tell the kid to say in the media? Nice start to your career Jack, you've just cost us pick 3 with utter stupidity... and what kind of way is that to talk about the club anyway, who does he think he is? Now we can look forward to the player taken at pick 5 becoming another NicNat to our Watts. Idiots every single one of them.

Joe Daniher was asked this morning on SEN who was the best junior footballer he'd seen. His answer was Jack Viney. He said being around Viney had helped his development and that he'd never seen anyone before that had his fierceness, willingness and determination. He said it's amazing.

Yet some supporters would rather pass if we have to give up pick 3. Daniher has played against Whitfield, Toumpas and rucked against Grundy, yet Viney is the best junior he's seen.

Just be thankful.

Couldn't have said it better.

I just hope some major potential trades and politics come into the woodworks from other clubs to take the hype off this kid over the next 3 days. Not likely but you never know.

This type of article could be the difference as to whether or not he ll be owning our midfield with his buddy Wines for the next decade

Spot on mate. He should have said the exact opposite. "It will always be my dream to play in the red and blue", "I'm incredibly close to my family so I'm going to really struggle if I have to move". Sew the same seeds of doubt Luke Ball did in the 09 draft.

Hmm.

Would have thought dad would have worded him up. Then again maybe he did.

A friendly piece of advice to the lad.

You, nor anyone is bigger than the club.

Youre frustrated; understandable.

Wisest not to open your mouth at present.

There ARE others !!!

WTF is going on here?? Surely the club would have advised him on how to handle the media surrounding this issue!? His dad is in charge of recruiting for Christ's sake!

The club should be advising him to tell GWS and GC if they pick him he'll ask to come home not the other way around!

Someone has stuffed up here. If there was any doubt about GC putting in a bid to force our hand with pick 3 i think that has been extinguished now...

I get the impression the Dees have distanced themselves from him and that may be what has induced these type of comments.

perhaps after not hearing from the Dees or being interviewed by them at the combin (suprise suprise MFC) then he thought he needed to say something.

When the truth is maybe the Dees did this as a tactic to show opposition clubs that we are interested in other kids at pick #3 instead...

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
