Jack's listed for Casey this week though there's an unexplained asterix next to his name. Anyone heard any word on this? He'll be playing in just his second VFL match and lining up against Wojinski again if it happens.

Asterisk just means he is 23rd man.

Sheeds tanked his arse off today to get pick 1 and will continue in that vein next week. I can't see GWS in any way risking that pick 1 to nominate JV. They in fact will probably add to it by getting our pick 4 for an Under 17 player.

Hey guys, this is my first post ever in forum.

Been talking to my brother about Jack and reading some news on him.

We (the Dees) have been warned on arrangements/deals with GWS or GCS to not nominate Jack as draft tampering.

I've read that other clubs have been getting involved with GWS and GCS telling them to nominate him to force us taking him early. Whether this is true or not I don't know.

My question is, isn't any club nominating him when they don't really want him with that pick purely to force us to take him at pick 3 also draft tampering?

And why haven't I read anything about the AFLl warning other clubs about this?

Because it's the AFL.

Because it is all about motives, how can you tell that a club isn't doing something for the right reasons - it's the same argument for us 'experimenting' in 09 during the Richmond game - how does anyone 'know' our motives?

They don't. And we don't know those of the teams below us.

And as for us doing deals with GWS and GC - it will be surreptitious and unprovable if we do end up doing deals with them.

Jack is worth a lot to the club. He is probably the best out and out midfielder in the likely first few rounds of the draft. He is loyal Demon.

What's more he got more contested possessions than Beamer last weekend just quietly ...

I have some sympathy to this view.

Long-term I reckon we'd be counting our blessings. Big, strong, aggressive, courageous - just about everything our other young key forwards aren't. He's a better Hurley.

Absolutely agree could you imagine not having to wait 5 years for a kid to put on some bulk to play senior footy? He is a jonathon brown mk 2. He has to work on his skills but to have him train with us for a full year would help him out so much if we don't get cloke we have to get him cause you don't find a brown or Hawkins every year in the draft

Not going to argue about his kicking I agree. But it can be worked on. We have players with exceptional skills and their intent and body size are not there and may not ever come. This bloke has the size and pack marking skills and kicking for goal would be the easiest of all those skills to teach.

There is no way we are going to be able to take Viney with our second rounder, mostly because the other teams just can't afford it, they are already stocked with good players so it would be worth the risk to nominate for them I think. If they don't nominate for him, it essentially moves everyone's pick up one.

Having said that I hope we do. I just can't see it. Pessimistic, but...

Although on the flip side, if they don't it effectively gives us another top 5 pick.

frustrating

Did anyone read Jay Clark's article in the Herald today.

Anyway he seems to think that we are keen on Jesse Hogan and may give up pick 3 in the mini draft for him. What the article doesn't mention however, is what happens to Viney in that case, Quite a glaring omission.

Anyway I assume if we trade pick 3 to the GWS and GC does the same with their pick 2, we may be able to pick up little Jack in the 2nd round.

Something like Hogan, Mayes, Kennedy, Viney would be a pretty good draft

What happens if we nominate Joe Daniher with our first pick as well as nominate Viney as a F/S

Does Ess have to match that?

This is what would happen:

GC and GWS don't nominate Daniher or Viney, and then we nominate Daniher. Essendon then takes him with Pick 10ish.

It's very unlikely that GWS and GC won't nominate Daniher.

The process is done, not by kid, but by pick: GWS can reel off all the kids they want to with Pick 1 if the club with the rights decides to take them:

GWS: Daniher!

Ess: Pick 11!

GWS: Viney!

Melb: Pick 3!

GWS: McDonald!

NM: Pick 15!

etc.

This is precisely why the first thing that happens is the Father/Son bidding. Once that is complete, clubs cannot trade away the pick that is earmarked for the Father/Son.

    HEAVENS ABOVE by Molly Melbourne

Who said the football gods and scoreboard attendants at the MCG don’t have a sense of humour? The gods spent a whole week teasing Demon and Bomber fans alike about Saturday night’s game. About how the entire match would be dominated by the hulking, brooding figures of 205cm Sam Draper and his 2IC Peter Wright lapping it up in the absence of Melbourne skipper and the club's No.1, No 2, No 3 and No 4 ruckman Max Gawn in the wake of that ankle injury. They painted pictures of Simon Goodwin ne

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among
