Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Personally, if we have to pick up Viney for a 1st round draft pick say pick 4 ish.. its not worth getting him at all.

I think he has potential to be a superstar but there are so many players that are just like him, especially because

this years draft is superdraft and i think that there could be 3 or 4 "vineys" and maybe even better than him.

For a second round pick it would be unbelievable to get Viney and 2 other picks at 3 and 4

So you think he is a potential "superstar" but not worthy of pick 3 or 4?? I'm happy with a potential superstar on our list it's been few and far between! I'd also like to add when he was being heavily pursued by AFC he chose the MFC in a show of faith I'd like to see that full filled as he appears to have done everything asked of him and no major injuries to change their mind.

I don't know why some flogs get concerned by where 'some' recruiters rate a player.

Fyfe was pick 20, but where would you have him now ? Beams was pick 29, but where would you have him now ? Hannebery was in the 30's, but where would you have him now ? Redden was in the 30's, but where would you have him now ? Shuey was 19, but where would you have him now ?

Yet dickwads argue over whether Viney is 6-10, or 5-15; and if he falls outside our range whether we'll say bye ? You're delusional. Viney will be at Melbourne next year no matter what pick we have to take him. And he's worth it. The guy is a leader, he's as manic as Joel Selwood, he hits targets, and despite the views of some fools he's quick. We're lucky he's ours - even if you don't recognise it.

Our first decent F/S since Barassi and supporters are happy to let him go. FM.

I for one am not happy to let him go, but fact of the matter is if we have pick 3 and there are 3 players or more rated better than him we will not take him! He will be a second round pick because gws and GC would be silly to do anything otherwise

I love this post, BH.

But let's not forget you were on the other side of this issue only a few months ago...

I understand where people are coming from, but you don't eff around with talents like Viney.

It will be a pleasure to watch this kid in a MFC jumper.

ok so maybe i overstated categoric. But Melbourne will not use pick 3 or 4 for him

I know this is an incorrect statement and Ive heard this from people who know. Melbourne will not walk away from Viney and he is as good as ours. We are bluffing with the suggestion we wont use pick 3 for him if need be. We will because unlike all the other players in the draft he is already emotionally invested in the club and because unlike many he is a manchild and ready to play. More disposals than Moloney at Casey, etc.

We WILL use pick 3 to for VIney if forced and this is the one thing I can certain of. The basis of your statement is pick predictions (which would only be relevant if players careers were always ultimately dictated by pick placement which is flawed) and off-the-cuff statements from a few at the club that you have misread.

That being said using pick 3, we may not have to.

We CANT (how many times can it be said) use the Scully priority picks on a father/son. So no pick 4 possible. Its pick 3 or second round.

Any very ambigious statement about what MFC intend to do with picks in relation to Viney cannot be taken as catagorical primarily because there is bluff involved because we WANT him to slip through to second round. Hence the reason we did not even include his performance or stats on our website in relation to Casey.

That entire post is mind blowingly wrong... Name another player in the draft who is currently exceeding AFL players for disposals in the VFL?

We cant use pick 4 because its Scully compo and cant be used on father son

I completely disagree. I am not sure if you have watched the TAC cup or not but Nathan Hvorat as an example shows more class than Viney and is very similar in the way they play just way more polished.

Viney is NOT in the top 5 players in this draft

Cale Morton looked great at similar levels.

Just get Viney. I don't give a stuff where just get him. Christ he is already playing well at VFL unlike bloody Cook. If he were to be at another club next year it would be damn hard for me to respect this club anymore.

FFS! How many other kids in this years draft (that twits on this forum rate higher than Viney) have been smashing it in the VFL??He is getting more possessions than Moloney (last years b&f) yet people are happy to let him go?

How nice would it have been to see Cook,Bennell and Morton play VFL before the draft? You are exactly right the kid is playing well in the VFL so just bloody get him.

i really don't think most people want to let him go, they just don't want to have to pay what he is worth. no other team has ever had to pay evens for a father/son, so it feels like we are getting shafted, in reality we're not.

Picking up a gun inside mid who is playing against experienced AFL players as a teenager is not getting shafted in my eyes. I don't care if we have to use a high pick on him. I will not feel shafted at all if viney is read out at pick 3. At least for once we can say in years to come we got a high pick right for once.

I love the fact that our club is putting on a bit of a show, trying to create the illusion that we won't follow through on our promise to draft Jack and from what I've seen the only people who are starting to lose their nerve are MFC supporters. We will take him but we're going to bluff all the way to nomination day and hope that the recruiting departments of GWS and Gold Coast scare as easily as your average Demonland poster. If they do, we grab him in the second round and we have what will be viewed as a bonus early first rounder. If they hold their nerve and nominate him, we'll be spewing that we've missed out on another early selection but then we'll call his name and move on and be rapt that Jack Viney is at our club.

Further to that, I think a large part of the show is to make it easier for us to do a deal with GWS/GC. Not so much for those clubs, but to make it look less like draft tampering to the AFL.

For example, it's easier for those clubs to pass on Viney under the false claim that they didn't want to risk it, and then do a deal with the MFC involving pick 3. If we came out and said that Viney is as good as ours with pick 3 then it would look pretty dodgy when GWS/GC passed on him and then did a deal with us.

If that's true Bob, we're putting way more thought into this than any zone, forward press or centre clearance tactic I've seen implemented on the field this year. Hope you're right but I get the feeling it's not that complicated.

Watched him in the national champs, and although effective at that level he won't have anywhere the AFL career of viney. He's a tiny bloke even in comparison to Viney and certainly doesn't have the stocky build of Jack. Plus Viney will bring along intangibles that many don't possess.

Although he may not be top 5 in terms of his skills set, his work ethic and hunger for the contest will spread through the playing group like wildfire which makes him deserving of a number 4 pick

OH, OK... So it is official then... We are going to trade our {Pick 3} to GWS now they are confirmed with the 1st pick...

So tell me, when is the club going to come onto these boards to do the "Sell" to the supporters to accept this deal.

You sound like your on the 'Inside'.

Personally, I think Grundy could be everything that Hogan can be to a forwardline.

So maybe we would be better off taking A Quickish Mid & Grundy with our first 2 picks,,,, use our Mid 1st Rnd for another quickish Mid, & if JV isn't there, use our 2nd Pick for another quality kid.

Then fight like Hell to bring Jack Back.

Provide some evidence you clown

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong, but even if he has said it I'm sure we can take it with a grain of salt due to the circumstances and would not be revealing of his true sentiments

I've got one for you, provide some Evidence that Viney is in the top 5 best in this Draft, "Clown" you sound very much like another postor who uses similar writing styles & putdowns to try to imply an inner strength & a valid argument.

And only 19 posts too.

Who's bidding are you doing?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
