It would be a shame to lose him. i betya he be playing one's at collingwood.

you honestly believe that. not a hope, anymore of an outside player he`d be bogged down in the carpark at the g

He's the product of a poor football culture that exists at MFC.

The kid has talent to burn we just don't know how to get at it.

we know how to get at tapscotts

What has Brad Green got then? How does a football club with poor football culture produce 3 players that make it to last years All Australian squad? And at round 8 are 2 points further in front of the same time last year?

Go Dees!

He needs to work on some things.

He will develop, progress isn't linear.

I'd listen to offers but I doubt there would be anything out there worth it - he's a talent, and I want to back the team that Stynes will assemble in 2012 - Bailey or no Bailey - to get him into our best 10 players.

Ah yes...if only Football was a game conducted on paper with quills we'd have this comp licked !!

Knowing and writing is one thing.. Doing seems and entirely different order of things.

Actually out og that article are a few things that , well me beig me, cause a littel cause for worry.

Now I know its only words but theyve been chosen for cause etc. Where he speaks of 'matching it" with any team. To me this is semi-defeatist. Youdont want to match it..you want to beat any team on the day. To me it speaks of where this FD sets the bar..They want to match it..to be competitive..and this possibly only. I bet Collingwood and Hawthorn , Geelong etc dont hink in terms of matching.. they think in terms of Besting .

Its good that they all have roles.. lovely isnt it.. FFS All players have roles..theres nothing new here...hello !! It sounds though they they seem so ensconced in the role playing that they myt be inadvertently suffocated by the terms of it.. Good players rise above such medicrity , great players rip the script apart.

So hows footy to be scored.. Melbourne 5 paragraphs 9 words 39 v Other etc ??

More concentration on the Sherrin..and less on writing me thinks .

Haha, love your analysis

I agree. I'd say he's in the VFL to rehabilitate - that word gets used all the time to describe injured players, but I think describes what's happening with him as well. Once he's "better" he'll be back in the seniors and probably better than he's ever been.

I really like this description.

The vultures have come out after one small sentence from a nobody. To add to that Morton would get us no better than a pick 25.

His potential far out ways what we can get for him on the market.

Morton would fetch very well on the open market, Tambling got a end of first round selection, and Morton has shown more that him.... people who are writing the guy off are silly, the article is about how other clubs WANT THIS GUY, his attributes alone will fetch a good pick, i still wouldnt trade him not right now

Also Cale will be and is far better than Jetta and Bennell, and the sad thing is he is probably harder than Bennell

I will not be surprised when we see a far improved version in 2-3 weeks time

Haven't you heard, he's "languishing in the reserves"...

Wow Jon Ralph, quality journalism.

I suppose by languishing he means being named in the best, with 28 touches & 5 tackles, pleasing the coach with his attitude.

Morton will and should stay.

In a draft already compromised by GC.

The next few drafts are going to be worthless with GC and GWS getting first choice picks.

I'd rather keep Morton who has phenomenal potential than get pick 18-30 for him and draft an unknown, who in any other draft may not have even made the first two rounds of picks.

Unless Morton can be used as part of a deal that nets us a top 10 pick or allows us to get a young developing KPF, I really don't see the use in trading him.

Actually i disagree wit this logic. Its the very nature of the compromise which wil raise the stakes. With limited access to kids , in order to develop in the normal practice, then the market of ready mades becomes even more juicy.

Morton ought to attract a Tambling like reward.

God, we'd want a better reward than what Richmond got for Tambling.

Morton will be a hell of a lot better, we've done a lot of the development work, and he hasn't had as many years to prove himself (if you do think he won't ever come good).

Has a bit of a stock market feel to it doesn't it - we bought high and would be selling low if we sold right now. There's a heap of upside though, so my strategy would be to hold on as the potential dividend/payoff later far outweighs the salvage value we'd get now.

Yep, good call Nasher. I can't stand the way he plays but I would be even more horrified to ditch him and then watch him blossom someewhere else. Keep him in the magoos with strong direction on what he needs to do to reeturn to the senior side.

What a mid 20's pick... yeah a real reward

He wont be traded for anything under 20, more say under 15

Also i believe thats what was being said, there is less talent available to most clubs so that means Morton is essentially a top 15 pick this year to other clubs

Clearly you've missed the point! What has the last 47 years got to do with Morton not performing due to so caled "poor culture" at MFC. Was there a poor culture there last year when three players made it onto the All Australian Squad? or are you refering to the lack of premierships as poor culture?

If by late first rounder you mean "end of first round" which was 27 last year and will be similar this year, with the situation Adelaide are in they wont be able to get value form it until 2 years after they received it, so maybe 4 years before they get a consistent first team player with 20 games experience if they pick someone decent.

I stand my comment what "reward"... do you think that is a rewarding scenario?

So... maybe... your... bad!!!

I'll ask you a couple of simple questions

1. Do you think this club has a winning culture. As in a sense of belief that we will end up on top?

2. Do you think over the last 47 years we have failed to develop players to their full potential?

3. Do you equate AA honours with team success?

Languishing in regret changes nothing.

The club has virtually rebuilt itself, do you believe that it has done so with the aim of achievement? I believe it does, but success won't come without stoppoing to check yourself in the mirror and making sure that you are'nt being too insular and unnacountable. Criticism be it self or otherwise is integral to the "change of culture".

We want the club to HTFU, how about the rest of us?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
