Undecided on Gawn. Concerned he might be a liability.

Surely, even though he was in the Casey 2nds last week...Gawn MUST come in. What difference is there between playing Gawn and the Gold Coast playing Zac Smith. Blood the kid and get some game time into him. Newton isn't going to be a ruckman. Play him forward. Saying that:

IN - Gawn, Rivers, Macdonald, McKenzie, Bate

OUT - Dunn (susp.) Garland, Bail (inj), Bennell, Wona.

Agree on Gawn! Give him a chance and see how he goes.

I think the following guys are in the gun for this week:

Garland and Bail - obvious outs for injury reasons

Wonna - is unfit and frankly not firing a shot. Was excellent in the first quarter of the Brisbane game (his first game back) but has looked listless and lazy ever since. Too often on Saturday he was led to the ball and tried to turn his opponent inside out by nudging him past the ball. I can't remeber it working.

Dunn - Is a massive source of frustration as he lacks discipline and tries to be aggressive at the wrong moments. Would prefer him to channel his aggression into getting the ball rather than laying crude hits. Is well down the list for contested possessions and has surely used up the (few) credits he earned late last year.

Bennell - Played a half for seven touches and I'm not sure he did enough to earn a recall in the first place. Was described by by Barry Prendergast as as someone who "could win the ball at stoppages" but I'm yet to see it. Bennell and Dunn are two of our absolute worst for contested possessions per game played this year. Bennell needs to stop flashing in and out of games.

I would like to see Juice line up in the forward line again. He gives us structure (in much the same way Bate did last week) and earned his spot with a great first quarter and a solid game overall. I would also like to see Maric have the same run of opportunity that has been given to Wonna - he has shown far more in fewer appearances so far this year.

In terms of ins, If Rivers is fit, he is a monty to replace Garland in the back half. McKenzie should also come in for Bail if he is fit enough. Howe might be a good replacement for Dunn, or maybe Bate, although I can't see where in the line-up Bate would play if Juice is retained. Howe may offer more flexibility. I would like Joel Mac in for Bennell and would be happy for any of Strauss/Evans/Nicholson to be given a run. Gawn might also be in the mix and give Juice the chance to stay home at full forward.

In summary:

Outs: Garland (inj.), Bail (inj.), Dunn (susp. or omit), Wonna (omit), Bennell (omit)

Ins: Rivers, McKenzie, Joel Mac, Howe, Bate/Strauss/Evans/Nicholson/Gawn

I would make either Jetta or Joel Mac the sub. I query Jetta's ability to run out a whole game but it would be good to sub on somebody who can hit bodies and have an impact at the contest.

Good post. Balanced and reasonable

What about the ruck/2nd ruck situation? Do you see any changes?

Out - Dunn, Bail, Garland, Newton, Wonna, Bennell, Jetta

In - Bate, McKenzie, Rivers/MacDonald, Gawn, Howe, Evans, Blease (as a sub)

7 changes? Unlikely but time this side was shaken and if the guys that have been on the scene long enough not to be passengers continue to be so, they must go too.

I'd bring in Gawn to replace Newton. Stef Martin shows me he can handle himself and Gawn will be a better option with him.

Bate to replace Dunn as he should have been a long time ago. I'd love to see Bate given the time to keep his spot that Dunn has over the 12 months. He is better than the treatment he gets around here despite some limitations.

Rivers is hopefully back for Garland or I'll have MacDonald back in.

McKenzie seems ready to go and is an able replacement for Bail. Disappointing timing for Bail.

As to the other three. Let me see Howe, Evans and Blease. Even accounting for the fact that Blease might not be ready, these 3 surely wouldn't be any worse than Jetta, Bennell and Wonna.

These 3 need to pull their damn fingers out, get their head over the ball and want to make it at AFL level.

As well as Bail, Garland and Dunny, dump Jetta, Warnock and Bennell

In: Howe, Evans, MacDonald, McKenzie, Blease and Rivers (if not fit give McDonald a go)

Rajon Rondo you were doing alright till you put this "These 3 need to pull their damn fingers out, get their head over the ball and want to make it at AFL level", You must just read the rest of the posts and be swayted, yes Wonna needs to go back to Casey to get his mojo back, Bennell had a quarter when we were going backwards he is getting there , and Jetta had 12 tackles and 17 pressure acts and throws himself into any constest he can get near...

Yes i am suprised so many posters today are calling for Neville Jetta's Head.

He had a red Hot Go on Saturday-earnt his pay well & trully..sure he made a few mistakes, but looks to me like he wants to learn.

Could be good against the Heart broken Saints next week.

yes let's bring in four debutants, i'm sure that will fix everything. They will get about 3 kicks between them and get physically monstered with zero senior presence to assist them

yeah, more cynicism and criticism - because it's warranted

Agree on Jetta's performance on the weekend. Just not sure he has the fitness to make an impact for a whole game. Would make a good sub who can come on and have a real impact at the stoppages.

Actually I went back and read after I posted. Not great but I did take note of your comment on Nifty, satyricon. I'm certainly not swayed by anyone but actually thought, mmm, perhaps a bit harsh on Nev but I'm sticking with that.

I would admit though that of the three Nev has been the best of the lot. Not too difficult to achieve that amongst this group though, sadly.

Ha!

Criticism is fine C&B. At least you have to put some thought into than actually laughing at your own cleverness.

agreed! Jetta, Bennell & Aussie get lumped in the same catogory jurst becasue they are all short and Indigenous! All 3 are very different, and IMO Jetta's pressure and tackling ability make him the most valuable to us in current form.

Of course they did. I forgot Davey and Jurrah also.

I'm after a white supremist football club.

What a damn stupid remark to make.

Agree DemonWA based on saturdays effort Jetta stays in at least he goes and gets the ball.

Wona has in IMO produced very few "good" games over his time at the MFC.

just quarters here and there and saturday he was poor.

Bennell I do not rate and he came on when everyone else had played half a game and still had no influence.

Wona and Bennell at Casey next week for me, they give very little over the long haul.

In; MacDonald, McKenzie, McEvans, McGawn

Out; Garland, Bail, Dunne, Newton

Emg; Howe, Bate, ?

* Start Martin in the ruck, with Gawn at Full Forward

* Jurrah to start on the wing again

* Frawley to go to Reiwoldt

* Anyone that thinks Warnock should be dropped really, really, need to watch the game. Seriously people.

* Put up or shut up - Davey, Green, Petterd, Gysberts

Yep. I only loved the Celtics when Larry Bird was there. :o

Much support here for Nifty Nev I'll admit. Is it worth watching the game again to confirm this?

Nah.

Loved that! (In a non-racial way!).

Didn't offend me, just know what some of our delicate posters on here are like.

Just some observations:

Wonna was unlucky on the weekend in that he ended up being the one to whom the inside 50 kick was too often sent when instead he should have been crumbing the pass sent to someone else (eg, Dunn, Newton, Jurrah). I was watching on TV so couldn't see why it was Wonna that the passes were sent to.

Newton was dominating forward. So why did he go into the ruck when Dunn was the expendable one - particularly after he'd been reported?

Jetta often looked like he was labouring when chasing. Perhaps he had exhausted himself but he doesn't look either fully fit or fast enough for an on ball role. Will he make it? Well, I had thought Maric wouldn't and (hopefully) he's proving me wrong, so maybe Jetta will get there.

So, for my changes I would suggest:

Outs: Garland, Bail, Dunn (whether suspended or not)

Ins: McKenzie, Rivers (or Joel Mac if Rivers not ready) and Gawn.

Sub to be Jetta.

I'd generally prefer Bate to Newton, too, but believe Newton should be given another chance to play forward for the whole game before the axe falls. And if he takes the chance, perhaps the axe won't fall.

I'm not sold on Bennell but Bate can't replace him and Bennell's speed is attractive against St Kilda.

My take for this week.

Backs. Bartram Warnock Rivers

HB. Tapscott Frawley Bennell

Centers. Jetta Sylvia Morton

HF. Petterd Watts Davey

Forwards. Green Jurrah Maric

Rucks. Martin Moloney Jones

Inter. Newton Gysberts McKenzie Howe

Outs. Dunn (susp) Bail (inj) Garland (inj) Wonna (omit)

Ins. Morton Rivers McKenzie Howe

Outs are largely self explanatory other than Wonna whose work ethic or fitness has not been AFL standard and should be treated like N Krakouer of Suns and be made to meet required skin folds / time trial conditions prior to playing for Demons again.

Rivers comes in for Garland (unfortunately chip will need to take Reiwoldt), Morton should have more time at Casey but comes in as additional experienced midfield rotation, McKenzie offers additional grunt which is a massive plus against a Hayes(less) Saints, Howe gets a call up as a more mature bodied utility being able to go forward or back is a massive plus.

Would love the sentiment of Gawn, Evans & Nicholson but Saints are there for the taking and we need to expose them with good quick ball movement, and queries remain on ball use at this early stage for all three. Bate is the unlucky player with Newton retained as ruck back-up and forward half already feeling top heavy when Newton playing minutes forward.

Davey given clear instructions that he takes Wonnas roll and this requires a minimum of 5 tackles in forward line or his place is under question.

OUT: Bail (injured), Garland (injured), Dunn (suspended), Bennell, Wonaemirri

IN: Gawn, McKenzie, Rivers, MacDonald, Evans

Gawn - Give him a crack, hopefully he can tap to advantage, Martin to support him.

Mckenzie - Even if it's for a half and he gets subbed.

Rivers - Should hopefully be fit, perfect switch for Garland.

MacDonald - Should of played last week, we'll need bigger bodies against the Saints.

Evans - Deserves promotion, start him as a sub.

Bennell needs to spends weeks at Casey not a week, really needs to make more of an impact in the games he plays. No doubt he has talent but with how young we are we simply cant have someone who cant provide more, if he played for Collingwood or Geelong he would fill a role as he'd have plenty of support. Wonaemirri hasn't done enough and should be in the same boat as Bennell, needs some weeks play for Casey. The rest are injured/suspended but you would have to say Dunn was going t be dropped if he wasn't suspended.

Posted

Michael Evans is expected to be promoted off the rookie list so that prob means he will be playing this week.

Howe is another who's close to a call up. Might get pipped by Bate.
