Today proves to me that Bailey must go

One week can be explained, patterns can't. I bump this every week until Bailey proves me wrong.

Leadrship!!!

They've made One Big mistake in this whole journey since late 2007. We let Junior go too soon. He should be here this year. IMO the resultS of this, is causing some concerns.

Ive given him time and happy for him to prove me wrong, but he doesn't get me fired up.

He's like a boring teacher.

I want someone to make you jump up and inspire me, show some passion.

hes just so flat all the time.

I thought at the time, and I still do, moving McDonald on was the right decision. When a player in his thirties takes six weeks to get over a one week hamstring injury it's time to go.

I would like to see the MFC recruit a few 25-26y/o Big solid boys before i throw the blame entirely at DB.The system is almost there, we just cannot sustain it.

Changed your tune WYL. I thought you were definitely one of the people blaming the coach. It's amazing the changes one win can affect. I'm not quite as filled with despair as I was a couple weeks ago, but I still think Baileys goose is cooked.

That said, I by no means heap the blame for today on him entirely, but Adelaide were so hapless last week that todays win really hurts cause it shows we can't stand up to resistance. Adelaide didn't even let out a whimper. As soon as we got a challenge today we capitulated. I know we copped injuries and the umps were rubbish, but they had injuries too and the rubbish umps didn't have a specific focus.

Here's an analogy for you:-

Bailey is rather like the junior school teacher who has done his job at getting his pupils to a certain level of skill and accomplishment.

However like many such teachers, he may not be adept at teaching senior students, at taking them to another level - and that's where a senior school teacher steps in!

That's assuming the 'pupils' are ready for senior school...

bailey has to go....

If Bailey goes so must Dunn, Bate and the recruiting department for selecting Strauss, Bennell and Jetta in 2008.

One or two of McKernan, Hannabery, Trengove, Suban, Beams, Sloane, Anthony, Zaharakis, Rockliff would have been better.

Rory Sloane and Rockliff would have been nice.

Given that Rockliff went in the Pre-Season draft after being passed over in the main one by every club for legends like Tim Ruffles, Bart McCulloch and Colm Begley I think you're reaching on this.

Bit harsh! I would have thought we'd do better to improve the resources in the recruiting department. First item on the list must be a flux capacitor

I don't raise my eyebrows at this thread.

It's the same old names peddling their misperceptions, unwilling to admit they decided too quickly, because they are desperate to be able to say they were right all along.

You've taken the easy option, the wrong option, and no one will be impressed with you if he indeed does get let go by year's end.

And what "misperceptions" were these?

That's the problem with this club, thay don't have vision. Rockliff was good enough to be invited to pre-season training (I watched him train)so they obviously knew what he could do. Just because other clubs didn't select him in the ND doesn't mean we shouldn't have. For us to climb up the ladder we need the vision and smarts that other clubs don't have.

That may be the latest injury, but has he been fit at all since he joined Melbourne? Retired due to cronic injuries, so we draft him. Makes sense.

It does indeed. We pick him up fit in the rookie draft. We have one senior ruckman with two junior up and coming ruckman Spencer and Gawn. It was wise the fill the gap. We tried for Hale but missed out.

The system is almost there, we just cannot sustain it.

... Throwing the baby out with the bath water. That piece of short termism will not sustain anything.

I got shouted down 2 years ago for wanting Luke Ball....if it was up to me i would have given the kitchen sink and the captaincy to Ball. That is the type of player we need.

The Filth got an absolute Bargain and they know it.

You're kidding about being some lone voice. There were so many posters on here that wanted Ball. The Club wanted Ball. Ball did not want to play at MFC and would not even meet with MFC. Collingwood got a bargain because they cooked the system. I am glad it was not up to you. Tossing Junior from the captaincy in his final year would have been a low act.

I know it goes against what most will think after such a great win, but today proved to me that Dean Bailey needs to be sacked. During the week I wrote

"I may seem strange, but I will be disappointed if the team can suddenly lay more tackles and play with more passion and desire than last week.

For the last few years, Melbourne has struggled because of being a young developing team. If the team can actually come out and lift this weekend because of the pressure put on them since the loss, it shows a real problem at the club in getting motivated to play AFL every week. To me this is much worse, and the coaching staff need to take the blame, and the coach must go."

All week some posted stated that the reason for Melbourne's poor performance this year is because of the size of the younger players and the lack of quality in the senior players. Today proved that this is not the case. Melbourne were too physical and too hungry for the Crows today. When given the right motivation, the players can lift and play with desire by running hard and tackling

Dean Bailey has not been able to motivate the playing group, that is why they have preformed so badly. The media spent a week motivating the players and they came out and dominated. If Bailey cannot get the best out of the players each week, find someone that can.

Damn good call - on ya bike Bailey, we need a proven premiership coach like Malthouse or Roos

No i haven't changed my tune at all. Bailey must improve, no doubt. I would love to see him do it. But if he doesn't he will go.

His plans are close to being there, but those last few percent are always the toughest to achieve.

After the Adelaide game, i did say beating North was what i wanted to see. The Team failed.

If the MFC had Really wanted Ball they could have picked him....Ball would have been a great Captain...Let's be honest Junior was only keeping the chair warm, as is Brad Green

This Club is still not Ruthless enough. But of course you will disagree Rhino, it is in your DNA.

No no Good idea. Pick a player (who had refused to give his medical records to us to view re OP) and stated that he did not want to play for MFC and refused to meet with us. Use pick 18 on him. Forgo Tapscott. And even better offer him the Captaincy as well. Good move. FMD.

Geez your DNA must be unique WYL.

Not sure why you don't understand that Luke Ball did not want to come to the MFC

MFC had enough brains NOT to pick him up when they could have

A lot of this game is based on attitude and what is between the ears along with the physical attributes required

I think this is also the basic reason we didn't draft Jack Darling as he didn't tick all the boxes

Cannot imagine playing for someone when you didn't want to be there as is the case with Luke Ball

If Ball is such a great captain then why isn't he captain now ?

Junior IMO was an excellent captain and the void he left is starting to show how valuable an on field leader can be

Well you were right.

The pressure was on and they responded beautifully.

As you suspected this heart/strength lasted precisely one week then its back to not giving a stuff

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
