He polls quite well for someone who wasn't in the top five players

You might want to re-watch the game.

His game was very good. In the first quarter, he set up the first 2 goals with excellent kicks then hit up Wonna who dropped a sitter soon after. He then proceeded to set us up like that for the rest of the afternoon. 31 possies and 10 inside 50s gets him top 5 easily.

His ball use was excellent. has ok pace but may lack the acceleration for forward pocket. I can easily see him becoming another midfielder though. his effort todat was not unlike last week for Casey, he was selecting good options continually.

I also don't know why so many supporters say 'good to see he has pulled his finger out' finally and all that. his last few years to me have been pretty honest, he continually runs hard for Casey and racks up decent possesion numbers.

He has slowly been getting better. I think he is a natural outside player so needs to commit to contests more, and start laying more tackles, much like Morton.

He played a decent games in our Sydney win lasy year and was dropped unfairly i thought. He has had to earn his spot more than just about anyone on the list andI think has not dropped his bundle and worked hard.

Get his defensive game up and he could be a good player. if you think otherwise, go watch the first quarter again and ask who was supplying the ball to Petterd, Jurrah and co.

If we had a big power forward it would have been an avalanche of goals early.

you mustn't be reading many threads or have eyesight issues

just look at the best player voting thread for example. He polls quite well for someone who wasn't in the top five players

even posters who are hesitant in praise said it was his best game yet and deserves more games

lets have a good look after he has played 3 games in a row (and all against teams we should beat)

be patient grasshopper and don't get ahead of yourself

Apologies for not having read every thread on the forum but what I was getting at was that he is unbelievably harshly judged compared to other players.

From what I have read, there hasn't been a whole lot said about his ball use. An attribute that seems most important in this game and one that many of our player's don't possess.

I hope your use of the word 'grasshopper' made you feel as invisibly almighty as you wanted. The number of

posts underneath your alias are intimidating me beyond belief Daisy.

Sylvia

Trengove

Jamar

Jones

Petterd

thats actually 6, but no disgrace by being rated after their games

I would have Maric ahead of Jones in the best in a second. Jones's effort get continually overrated on here.

Good call. Quite a coincedence actually, was just looking at the stats from the game and a few jumped out at me. One was that Maric had 15 score involvements, the most of any player in the team (Davey and Sylvia next on 12). Also he had 10 inside 50's, equal most with Maloney.

I like him in the side, smart thinker, good user, looks to set players up and is creative. In our best 22

you must be joking, the opposite is true

someone actually called him soft the other day which is an absolute disgrace of a call

I know, i think i brought that up with the person but they haven't commented yet. Jones was one of our best yesterday and kicked one of the goals of the year. I still have to giggle when pre season people where saying that Moloney and Jones would not be in our best 22 or we could only have one. How silly they are, there our best 2 mids now!

ANd MArix was handy yesterday, very good game, needs to do it consistantly but same with a few others. Has good skills, makes smart decisions just needs to work on his toughness. I think he gives a lot more than bennell who are probably going for a similar role.

Jones can be unclean at times but he tries his heart out and is easily in the best 22.

I reckon when Scully is fit it will be a direct swap IN: T SCULLY OUT: N JONES.

Please, We as supporters need to sometimes take off the rose coloured glasses.

Let me pose this question when we have Scully and Jordie ready where do you see Jones? I see him on the fringe.

I would pick based on current form and would have Gysberts out before Jones. NJ would be in out Top 3 in the B&F so far this year. I would also question Bate's inclusion, so if those 2 boys (Scull and Jordie) were fit, they'd be my replacement.

As I said, I would pick on form rather than my personal disliking for a player.

Even though this thread is about Maric (and I was pleased to see he rose to new heights) I'm happy to talk about Jones. Very pleased that we have him (and not one of our competitors). Jones is a mature body who has developed new tricks and is prepared to take the heat in running the ball through the lines... GOLD!!! He is relatively young but must be close to the 100 game mark. He is a ball player who has significant endurance skills. He certainly plays a different (but much required) game than Scully. We should celebrate the fact that we own him!

I think "we as supporters" need to be shot sometimes. How about listening to the opinions of the professionals? They universally rate the guy. The channel 7 commentators were saying how every time they see him he is exceptional. Personally, I will take that opinion over a supporter with a chip on his shoulder who happens to dislike a particular player.

I see now Scully and McKenzie coming back through Casey and having to earn their spots

he didn't have one tackle last week, and had one tackle against the crows ! When plenty had more than 5 !

I see similarities between Jones and Maric.

Even when they have a good game there is always someone who can find a way to bag them.

OOH if Scully was ..... If Mckenzie was.... WELL they're not! Get over it. Jones is and he IS getting the job done and playing

well. Give the guy some credit. We won and Jones whether you like him or not was an important part of that win.

Same goes for Maric. Some say an ineffective 31 possessions etc etc. I thought he was really good and have always been a fan so its good to see him take his opportunity but like jones he will have those that will want to bag him aswell. AND WE WON!

Yes he was.

x2

Poor Bater was very ordinary and had a severe case of the yips. Dropping marks, missing tackles misjudging the bounce nothing worked for the poor bugger. I have been a firm believer that you need to give people more than one game to prove themselves but having said that others have not had that opportunity (Maric, Jetta, Petterd)so for the sake of consistancy he might find him self back at Casey and needing to wait for his next opportunity after playing well there.

Hardness (or softness) aside, Jones would be all the better if he could just improve his tackle count.

Yesterday:

Sylvia 9

Dunn 8

Trengove 7

Green 6

Bate, Davey, Moloney 5

Bartram, Gysberts, Petterd, Tapscott 4

...

Jones 1

Season:

Colin Sylvia 34

Rohan Bail 29

Brent Moloney 27

Firstly I don't dislike him. I like anyone that wears the RED & BLUE. I am at the MCG for every Melbourne game so I believe I can make a valid opinion. Jones played well yesterday (Bate aside who didn't), Yes he had his clangers and wrong options but he was for mine not in our best five.

I don't want to get into a Jones bagging session. We won and won well and after the last te days on these boards negativity is the last thing we need.

For the record the best for yesterday should have read.

1. Moloney

2. Jamar

3. Sylvia

4. Bail

5. Maric

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
