make'm walk back across the Nullabor. Dean...dont bother mate

cant wait for the excuses.

No structure...no plan.

we have been exposed for exaclty what we are.. a lot of talent but with no idea of how to actually play footy. In such you need guidance, you need nouse..you need footy smarts. Apparently we dont have anything that works .

Jimmy...have a word mate.. a big, serious word !!!

They can walk back, Bailey might as well swim to friggin South Africa. He's better off taking his chances with the White Pointers than heading back to Melbourne.

As I write, the final siren sounded. Thank F@$k that is over.

I want to say very bad things.

I've been following our club for a long time - more than 30 years, and that is one of the most disappointing performances that I've ever witnessed. It was a huge setback for our development and I don't want to hear positive spin put on it by the club - make no mistake it was rubbish. Put simply we were monstered by a team that most in the footy world thought we should at least be able to match - at least! Our pressure this year has been pathetic and tonight was the most spectaclur example. Our tackles don't stick, we're loose, and we're getting killed in the air. It was a vintage 2007/2008 effort, including trying to set a new record for kicking out on the full.

I really want to use this forum to speak about the positives around our club - but what do any of us say tonight, other than 'thank god it's over'.

A massive, massive disappointment.

How many times can one say...``that was the worst performance I have ever seen``. I`ve lost count in the last 4 years but please allow me just one more. (for now)

I`ve never been a Bailey basher but he is in serious trouble to keep his job in the next month.

I`m embarrassed, shattered and most prominent of all DISGUSTED!!

Gutless effort MFC. Massive changes are nigh!

I read a tweet today where about 5 or 6 players were at the movies watching Tron about 5 hours before the game???? Nathan Jones tweets at the same time "ipod in trying to get pumped for the game, can't wait" Jones was on tonight. Was kicking back watchin' Tron a good prep?

I'm 70 kg, but I eat when I'm depressed. Look forward to seeing me on the Biggest Loser next year. Dean Bailey should be there too because as a coach, he's got donuts.

p.s Brad Green is Melbourne's worst player. I dont know what has happened but he is our worst player for the last 3 weeks. Screw the captaincy drop him

I tend to agree- damn pathetic exhibition from him and the team.

That was seriously the most pathetic, spineless and heartless performance i have ever seen a football team of any level let alone an AFL side produce. I just read another post on this thread where someone said we look like a bunch of talented players with absolutely no idea how to play football and with no structures and that reflects on Dean Bailey and the rest of the coaching staff. Im soo sick of hearing all the excuses and rationalisations. lets just face it we were utterly hopeless tonight and its time for some serious change.Dean Bailey has to go, i dont want our talented young players hearing his bullsh*t for another day.

Cale Morton needs to be dropped.

Giving up the forward half doesn't work.

I've been saying were too soft. Our balance between skilled players and robust players is off the the right.

We are missing Jordie, and we need one more I think. Maybe Junior Mac, sorry, maybe Petterd. With 2 slight players to come out, that is a big shift in the balance of the sides makeup over a game.

Agree, if DB is true to his word about selecting best 22 on form...he should be dropped. Our own Richie vandenberg.

Love ya Greeny, but you`ve not fired a shot mate, all season.

Since getting the Captaincy, this year he's gone backwards to playing Soccer again.

Disappointed, we need strong leadership, not a marketing tool. It's our own squeaky clean fault. We always want the Mr Sheens of this world.

Lets get down, and dirty.

I was really looking forward to this season all summer, now........................

Pathetic rabble of a side, ring the changes.

Seems the CEO has lost faith in the coach and while I have avoided bagging him, I am affraid he is not the guy to take us to a flag. DB you have a few games left to prove me wrong I recon.

1964 was so long ago, last year I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, but the light if fading for this season at least.

GAME PLAN SUX BIG TIME

So well said! Thanks Dad for bringing me into this world as a Melbourne supporter, a life of let downs. Hate being so passionate for such a pathetic club.

I feel the same mate. I curse my Dad too for doing this to me. And I love this club. I tell myself not to get emotionally invested but I can't help it. Slowly though, I am becoming more distant due to the players being soft as a snakes underbelly.

My father is genuinely considering giving up watching football. And I'm stuck with it.

...shattered.

Feeling shattered right now. Some reflection in the cool light of dawn / next week / next month might change things, but right now, I feel like our season is over. A season that promised competitiveness, improvement, development, new players earning their stripes in a harder, tougher one-year-more-experienced lineup...

How do we win against any middle or lower rungers after tonight, let alone be competitive with sides in the 8?

Stuff the 40,000 members goal for 2011. After tonight, there might be a lot of calls for a new refund policy due to a breach of the Trade Practices Act - membership sold under false pretences, team & coach not for for purpose etc.

Some of the worst stats I have seen in a long while.

Inside 50s at 1/4 time - WC - 22 (is that a record?) Melbourne 5

Tackles in the forward line at half time - West Coast 13, Melbourne 0. None. Zip.

Absolutely no defensive pressure in the forward 50.

As a result, nearly all of WCs score to half time was due to turnovers.

Despite the first half, i thought we would at least fight it out in the second half. Nup. Result - 8 WC goals to 3.

Daniel Kerr said recently the biggest difference in the game (after being injured for 2 years) was the increased tackling.

We really miss our two best tacklers from last year - Junior and Jordie.

The football department have been in a lovely cosy place for three years on the basis of "she'll be right Jack" and selling us the story that our recruits are still some years off!!! Not so sure that Collingwood / Carlton/Hawthorn the clubs that demand success or their supporters would buy that message for as long as we have.

Anyhow not so cosy now, with the clock ticking loudly. But in all jobs you eventually become accountable and exposed, so the next three/four weeks should tell that story. Up to Connelly and his team to sort that out very quickly or presumably be invited to 'pracice excellence elsewhere' by the media. You can't have excuses forever.

The sad part was that the performance was no better than three years ago and tonight we had practically a full list. The pertinent point here is that we weren't just beaten, but completely thrashed, brushed aside and totally outclassed by a mob who finished behind us last year.

P.S. Didn't see much wrong with Darling tonight and clearly a ready to go player with no waiting period , I also note the top teams have big strong, tough, fast run allday, midfielders and one maybe two lightly framed small outside finishers. We have Wona, Davey, Bennell, Bartram throw in Jones perhaps. Just too many small players for mine and you can add Jetta and Maric to boot. How many smalls do you want on the list? We appeared very small and mismatched against far bigger opposition tonight. Jack Watts was a bright light up against huge odds with little support.

Bailey has to go. We need some mongrel. We need someone that will instil some belief in the players with a positive game plan. We need a tough coach who will not take sh*t from any player. Sorry Bailey, your time is up.

Pretty sure it was 22 to 3! They don`t count when the opposition enters your forward 50 for you

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
