thanks brock mclean. How is things at the blues?

Interesting to hear on the radio. It may of been MMM, cant remember. They were saying that with Ed Curnow playing so well, it could be the last we have seen of Brock Mclean. I dont want to be sticking the boots in, but it seems that we definately ended up with the best deal in that trade. IMO Brock will be back for them, and probably play some good footy, but im not sure if he will ever reach the initial potential in which most thought he had.

no chance he will, and Gysberts looks better after 4 games than he did anyway

Imagine if we got Brock back, as a depth clearance player, cheap as chips, a la the Croad deal..?

I'd love it.

Brock still has some value and I think the substitute rule helps him.

it's very premature to suggest the new substitue rule could help brock. the jury is still out on how best to manage a sub. i worry that a sub will lose match fitness over the long term. in that event...it makes it even harder for brock

I think e25 might be right re; the sub rule. Midfielders will be on longer and Brock, whilst not a powered athlete, keeps motoring on with endurance. Short bursts don't suit him. But if you're the opposition you would still work him over. That said, I'd prefer to see him in action first, to see if it does make a difference.

Not at all.

You sound like you don't even understand the effect of the substitute rule.

His folks got up at the draft function a couple years back saying the family were all mad Collingwood supporters (apparently Jordy was a '1990 Premiership baby').

However, by the time they arrived a the 'G that night they were all converted Demons B)

Sorry, my mistake. Not sure who i was thinking of now, maybe Grimes.

McLean is useless.

Also, I remember on debut last year that people compared Gysberts to James Hird. Watching him yesterday (first I've seen him play) makes me like the thought - always in and around the contest, always looking to move forward, always dangerous and smooth. Doesn't seem as hard into a contested ball a la Judd or Sylvia, but seems to always come up with it.

I thought the same thing watching Curnow. Does everything they wanted Brock but the difference is he can actually do it.

Overblown ratings of McLean since 2007. Only injury or poor of others will give McLean the chance to challenge.

No, no and No thanks.

He'd come on, pretend he's going in hard at a contest aka a tad late, get a knock to the thigh and hobble back to the bench taking us down to two interchange.

As hilarious as seeing that would be, no deal.

'was easily our best mid today'..... if I were Brent Moloney and saw that comment, I'd be numb with disbelief, and probably start questioning whether I was in fact invisible....ridiculous hyperbole.

Lets look at one of Moloney's Inside 50s. Takes a mark on the Member's Wing. Almost all of our Forwards have pressed up to the defensive side of midfield. Instead of waiting for the forwards and mids to work back into the 50 so we have a better chance of retaining possession he bombs the ball long to the 176cm Wonaeamirri who not surprisingly does not outmark the 196cm Merrett who is standing next to him. A totally useless Inside 50. When a key stat in relation to scoring goals is the time the ball spends inside 50 an entry like this is totally useless.

Gysberts was better than Moloney because he wins genuine inside ball that Moloney cannot, releases to the advantage of a team mate and we retain possession more when he kicks it. I have no confidence when Moloney gets the ball that we will retain possession.

Wow that is the biggest load of tripe i have ever read. I am pretty sure you will be on your own here, knocking one of his inside 50's really you serious? He will get 3 brownlow votes and all votes in the bluey. Got all votes in the herald sun. Learn footy then come back.

Moloney can't win the inside ball of Gysberts haha had to chuckle at that one.

By the way Gysberts is a gun and take nothing away from the kid, he will be a star.

Totally agree with this reply.....I continue to be staggered by the blind lack of insight from some posters....

The kid looks great! My first look at him yesterday and I am very impressed.

I've heard his name pronounced Gysberts (with the "Y" pronounced as in "EYE") and GIsberts (IS).

Which is it?

Who on earth calls him "G-EYE-sberts"?

Gysberts reminds me of a Pendlebury type - however better than he was after 4 games. A sensational young player.Just cannot wait till McKenzie and Scully play together with Gysberts for a season or two- sensational midfield group and add Viney in the mix as well. Go Dees.

While I'm not sure Gys had a better game on the weekend, I agree with the rest of what demoniac wrote. The quality of Gys' clearances is much much higher. Much cleaner and much better vision.

I agree. I'm very happy with the Gys to date. I thought the longer the game wore on, the better he produced. Covered quite alot of ground.

As he fills out and strengthens those arms he will be able to hold tackles better. I thought they broke his tackles a few times, he wasn't able to hold on, however that will come with "development" (I know boring word isn't it). Vision and field kicking I thought was quite good. He'll slice and dice "moving forward".

Sorry about that one.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
