Nev Jetta

I thought Nev Jetta was a good player for us against the swannies, so when i went back to the replay, so as to move on grom the Hawks game, i couldn't help but notice Jetta.

We player very well with the space opening up in that game, and as we a young side that is a transition side, we like to run 'n' carry. The game suited us.

Well Jetta not only played well, he was excellent. The kids that didn't really impress were Maric who still needed to feel his way into the intensity, but also Bennell was flashy at best. This is why I think Jetta started last week, and Maric was Sub.

On reflection I would hang onto Jetta in the sub spot.

Maric I think I will go, making way for Wonnaemiri. I would drop Bennell for Gysberts.

Jetta is a good little player, team orientated and clever. He'll need to increase his endurence.

I agree with you that Jetta is a good player and played solidly against the swans. However I disagree that Bennell should be dropped. Gysberts definitely needs to come into the side to help out the midfield, so who do we push out? Bennell is versatile in that he can play down back, up forward and in the middle. Jetta doesn't have this amount of versatility.

He can play small forward, is intuitive off the pack. He's doesn't Look as fluent, in his run or pace, but that can be deceptive. He deserves his spot ahead of Bennell through his hard work and courage. He is a good forward defensively and will throw himself in to takle. He's better than Bennell in the crushes.

But he's engine is not as strong yet, IMO. He would be handy also, on the Sub spot.

Bennell has not been working hard enough, but is noticable because of where he gets his ball.

So Jetta's inside role could be taken by Gysberts who can play that role.

And Bennells & Marics role could be taken by Wonnaemirri, who would offer a lot more grunt and defensive pressure.

I still to this day do not see anything Jetta offers, I see him chase half heartedly, usually in the wrong spots, I honestly can't remember him getting his own ball and he seems timid. I think his speed is over rated, I think his agility and evasive movements are brilliant, his skills seem good, not elite.

Now I do not know if he will get better and go harder over time etc, but at the moment I have been asking for a while what does he really offer?

I've been thinking the same thing for a while. Speed people say is something that he has. WHAT?

Maric I kind of agree with, but remember his NAB Cup form and the fact he hasn't been at the club too long. He hasn't had that many games under his belt and we need to keep giving them to him.

And no way should Bennell be dropped. I had him as one of our best against Sydney - one disappointing game does not mean you play for Casey the following week.

I have not the slightest doubt that Jetta will be fine, and that we have the best, tho' the least flashy, of the Jettas. But in the past, when he's played a bad game, he seems to lose his mojo for a while, and only gets it back by going back to Casey & his 3rd or 4th game is a great one that demands promotion. When he's good, he's the equal of any of our young guns. But after Sunday he'll need to get his confidence back.

I like Jetta, but at this point in time he is the worst out of Leroy and Lewis.

Neville is younger than Leroy, i'm hoping Neville continues to develop in a similar vein, bc Leroy has become a good player

I've just watched the game again, off the HDD, and went right through with slow mo etc. Bennell did one ot two nice things that Loooked impressive and that was it. Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes for Benny, BUT, he's got it too easy and he 'pulls out' of hard tasks.

IMO, to get the best out of him, it's time to make him work harder to maintain his spot.

Giving him games just because he's got talent, is spoiling him. Without him earning them.

I think Jetta's forward pressure should keep him safe, if we are looking to find a spot for Gysberts, I would like to see Jones made the sacrificial lamb, but I wonder if his position is guaranteed by him being in the leadership group

He's actually younger than both. Lewis was drafted later though.

IMO, the postors here generally seem to undervalue the impotance of some physical hardness. Jones brings some with Moloney, so, until McKenzie is ready, I think Jones is safe.

So my thinking is to replace some soft class in Benny, for some better inside/outside class, plus height in Gysberts.

Leroy and Lewis accceleration and pace are elite.

Nifty doesn't have those gears. If he did, we probably wouldn't of got him at 53. Might be a good 16-22 like Nath Jones.

Jettas biggest issue is that he doesnt have the tank to go all day. So many times on Sunday he was out on his feet, running seemingly on the spot. Heaven forbid if we had an injury and we only had two fit players with him on the field. He got dragged and subbed after the coaching staff had seen what I had that he had no more to give near the end of that third quarter. When he's fresh, he offers quite a bit, dont forget the coaches thought enough of his defensive pressures to start him on Cyril Rioli last week.

So I think hes much more suited to being a sub.

A torrid run with injuries explains the lack of fitness. If the fitness comes he'll be more than handy.

Until then I think he'll be in and out of the side.

It took Leroy a long time to click at Essendon, and now he's a jet (excuse the pun) apparently. Nev should build his game slowly.

Bennell is more interesting. He's been showing flashes of brilliance forward and back since game 1. He has to find more of the ball. However I can't help but think he'd be better served in a more successful system of football.

I thought Jetta made some horrible, horrible errors that were fully deserving of his subbing. I like Jetta, but he's not blessed with superb skills, just persistence. I thought his clanger going back with one hand on half back in the third term was the turning point in the game. That and Petterd's selfish ill-converted snap in the third. I watched the first half again today on tv and admittedly Jetta was quite good in our better patches. But he really killed us in the third. I'd sit him out for a week or give him the sub spot. That said, I'd like to see Gysberts and Aussie back in this week. Jetta drops out for mine. Along with Maric.

Nev Jetta is severely underrated & is definitely not inferior to either Lewis or Leroy.

Give him time, give him a chance.

The kid has it in him.

Have you watched Leroy play recently. Very good player these days.

Neville is our 22nd best player and will probably play at least 5-10 vfl games this season.

MFC goggles on ?

Yeah, probably.

Haven't seen Leroy since NAB Cup, but he should go alright, I've been expecting him to improve.

I've just seen a lot of good things from Neville that I don't think many others have noticed, or have valued.

I think that, if anything, he's over-rated on here.

I don't think he'll be in (or near) our 22 if we turn out anywhere near as good as I hope we'll be.

That said, I obviously hope every Melbourne player turns out to be very good, so hopefully you're right.

I will bow to your superior knowledge

However he put in a poor one on sunday

The team result was terrible and some changes need to be made.

Sorry e25 but lets see what he has at Casey this week.

Here's a shock for you Old Dee, I AGREE!

Changes will be made and i think we are on the same page when we suggest that it will be one or both of Maric and Jetta who go out.

If they do let's hope they really fight hard back at Casey and put in some top performances to force their way back in!

I agree that Jetta should be Caseyed for this week, but I also think he will be a big part of our future, and as a midfielder. He was our BoG in the preseason game against the Lions in precisely that role. Clearly his whole game endurance isn't there, but injuries allowing, it will come this season. How many games has he played? Under 20 I'm sure. Gysberts needs to be rewarded. Maric, and it will be a little unlucky for him because he has limited opportunity, should make way for Wonaeamirri. Those who think Nathan Jones should be dropped are woefully misguided. He is also still developing, believe it or not, and had some superb games last year. In the absence of Junior McDonald, and with the club trying to push him into a new level of versatility, he's going to take a few games to find his mojo this season.

Jones had TWO contested possessions against the Dorks.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
