Hands up the 'Brent Moloney's a C-grader' brigade. Well that C-grader just dominated the midfield of an AFL football match....doesn't seem right, does it?

Posted

Would be fair to say that Moloney would be currently sitting on 12 Brownlow votes for the season.

If we win enough games, and he continues his great form in those winning games, could he do it?

There was an interesting article on the weekend saying tha twe needed to put him back in the leadership group. I don't think we do this straight away, I think we'd be better to say to him that this will be reviewed mid-season.

I still believe tha tthere will be room for he and Jones come 2013-ish. I'd think Jones at this stage would be in our Top 3 B&F so far. But I don't expect many to agree (only because his name is Nathan Jones).

Not Nathan Jones? Surely not? But he's a C-grader, gets caught in tackles and has poor vision and disposal. Could it be that demonland is beginning to see the Jones of 2010/11 (and the one that the FD rate), and shake the stain of 2007/08?

yep in the OP i ragged on Jones, but put the humble pie in the oven becasue he's looking the goods too this year

Agreed, it will happen on it's own accord. And if anything him getting dropped from the leadership group has driven him to be more of a leader. The Jamar-Moloney combo is one of the most prolific ruck-rover duos in the AFL at the moment.

Brent Moloney is not a clearance player!

How many times does it need to be said...

Ummm....

Let's re-emphasise that shall we.

I would like to see how Moloney and Jones go against more competitive and credible opposition than the Lions, Suns and the Crows (they were putrid yesterday).

Posted

Took on the burden of responsibilty and was the general at the clearances, thanks a large part to his Russian sidekick.

Agree totally with that. Rush's ruckwork over the last two seasons has been outstanding, and he and Beamer are continuing to build a brilliant understanding. Some of their work yesterday was out of the textbook.

Agreed.

Where was Moloney against WCE? Clint Bartam was killing it out of the middle at times yesterday!

Moloney is going nicely but would like to see him impress on a game when the tide is going against us.

Around the ground he is a B-grade player.

But he is an elite stoppage player.

He has taken that step this season (although early last season he was very good - pre-Sandilands injury).

19 clearances is incredible.

They were made to look putrid yesterday. But I take your point re: the credible opposition.

You can only beat what they put in front of you.

He is an elite player. In my view hes in the same category as Judd,Swan,Ablett,Selwood etc. Hes just about the best clearance player in the comp,he plays good old fashioned no nonsense football and i wouldnt be surprised if he was in the top 5 in the comp atm for metres gained which is a really good stat to highlight a players worth. A truely underrated star!!!

and i'm loving it cos i backed him to place in the brownlow after round 1 :D

C-Graders aren't they Rhino, particularly Moloney who is in contention for the C-Grade brownlow

have you done your votes yet

He certainly was yesterday....19 times.

I wouldn't say it again if i were you!!

That moment in the 3rd quarter near the members wing, he turned 3 or 4 crows players inside out then hit a teammate on the chest...

Simply sublime bit of play. Only thing preventing him from being classed in that 'elite' category is consistency.

Happy to put my hand up as someone who doubted Moloney's value to the team. I think it's significant that oppositions will put a hard tag on Davey or Sylvia or even Scully, but never Moloney, because he's so one-dimensional & predictable that he doesn't do them damage no matter how many possessions & clearances he gets.

Neil Craig mentioned in his press conference yesterday that he tried over 3 people tagging Moloney, but gave up because he was unstoppable.

21 contested possessions yesterday, apparently the old club record was 15...

19 clearances which is now an AFL RECORD, previously 18

Mike Sheehan put Moloney in his pre season top 50 reasonably highly and myself and others questioned this.... but hasnt he delivered, very impressive

Heard him on the SEN news, bit of a snippet

Saying that he wants the vice captaincy back, that him not being in the leadership group hadnt changed his role as a leader, and that his aim since the incident has been to lead the young kids in our team even more.

Great to hear that the guy is driven to get it back, not being vice captaincy has obviously had an affect on him, positively and if anything he is giving even more at the moment because he wants to be the leader of this group

This guy really wants the VC back but i think it is also obvious that he would love to lead the club (as Captain) also great stuff

Posted

Give him the leadership back immediately. He deserves it.

No! After the Mid-season point. Not before.

It's more about sending the right message to the whole group, including a tough stance on the leadership group. Our Leaders are too soft. And the well below Junior McDonald's last Year @ this stage. Greens playing like a 'toff'. Barely gets his hands dirty.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
