Its probably been mentioned in other threads allready, but after watching yesterday's game i realised how little credit we seem to give big beamer!

His clearance work was top notch, and his kicking and decision making was great also.

So here's to Beamer, sorry for grouping you with Nathan Jones in regards to ability/game style!

Don't know about this Brent Molony, but I sure like Brent Moloney...

Always liked what this guy gave us, gotta have some variety in your mids, and the way he links up with Jamar is very useful.

People forget how good he was in 2010 pre-Sandilands cleaning him up.

That goal he kicked was pure Woewodin circa 2000 - gathered ball on knees turned around and drills it from 50.

Excellent game.

The criticism in the past from me was that he didn't do enough damage to opp'n teams, the quick kick out of the centre was often ill directed and he often got caught trying to break tackles.

Yesterday he was outstanding with 22 contested possessions, some fabulous clearance work and a great goal.

He and Petterd turned the game for us. Great work. I hope it's what we can expect for the rest of the year.

Yesterday was one of Beamers Best Games for the MFC. His clearences particularly in the 2nd half were all class.

Was a huge cog in turning the game around.

He has grown over summer hasn't he....love those new training facilities. B)

Good game by Beam, his stoppage/clearance work isn't in question just his decision making and yesterday I thought he made some better decisions than I have seen is some time.

Nice give and go handballs was a good link and kicked well when he needed to. Good to see less than 95% of his disposals being long bombs forward.

Took on the burden of responsibilty and was the general at the clearances, thanks a large part to his Russian sidekick.

I always laugh at those who think that Beamer will be pushed out of our premiership-potential team, without a doubt if we are to make it we need the likes of him to be winning the ball out and doing all the rough and tough stuff.

Well he's doing a pretty good impersonation of one then! I believe he had 10 clearances for the game yesterday.

I was one who lumped Beamer in with Jones as a questionable plodder going forward, but yesterday reminded me he's much better than that. Just needs to get a bit more consistency into his game, no doubting his best is very very good!

Just paying homage to the poster (who I shall not name) the other day who said Jones was a clearance player, but Moloney is not.

But back on topic, while watching the game yesterday it really hit home about how much of a key player he is for us. I had almost forgotten this fact after reading over so many threads that discussed "our best 22" or "best 22 in X years time" etc which were full of midfields of our young guns, many of which have played less than 20 games (Gysberts, Blease, Jack Viney FFS!). Even if the young brigade of Scully, Jordie, Gys, Tappy & Trengove are all fit and firing im confident Beamer would hold his spot if he is able to maintain that type of form

I would suggest that the perception that we have a better more capable forward line this year makes it easier for him to use the long bomb into the forward 50. It must be difficult kicking into the forward line only to see it come straight back out again as it has in years passed.

I can see Beamer and Tapscott using those big kicks to put the ball deep in the forward line for Jurrah, Petterd, Chin, Watts, Aussie, Maric, Bennell and Green to raffle off for a goal.

I like this thread, as I've been surprised lately the criticism levelled at Beamer. I for one have always loved the bloke, he may not be the most skilled, but effort and physicality in this instance far outweigh small skill deficiencies. Just to remind everyone the Jamar/Moloney combo was the most effective in the league last year up until Beamer got injured.

Am I right in saying that Jamar/Moloney combo was no 1 in the AFL for clearances last year ? Did I hear that or am I making it up ?

Happy to put my hand up as someone who doubted Moloney's value to the team. I think it's significant that oppositions will put a hard tag on Davey or Sylvia or even Scully, but never Moloney, because he's so one-dimensional & predictable that he doesn't do them damage no matter how many possessions & clearances he gets.

However, he was a very different player on Sunday. Instead of "see-ball get-ball run-in-straight-line-towards-goal kick-long" every time, he added new dimensions to his game. He didn't always just try to crash through the thickest part of the pack, he actually mixed it up a lot, running around the pack rather than through it, looking sideways rather than straight ahead, and even lowering his eyes & hitting targets, by hand or by foot. This is an entirely new Moloney, not just the old model doing it better, and I sense a large dollop of Scott West into the mix in terms of clearance strategies.

If this is going to be how he plays from now on, he's going to be much more damaging and will definitely need a hard tag. And he'll be much more difficult to tag than Davey etc because of his strength.
