Rookie Elevation?

I think because we've only got 1 vet (Brad Green) we're allowed to elevate a rookie before the season starts.

The rookies are:

Newton (injured)

Campbell (injured)

McNamara (injured)

Nicholson

Evans

Lawrence

Johnston

Interesting that Lawrence is the only one in the squad v Hawthorn - maybe we're taking a look at him?

Do we have to use that elevation prior to the season, or can we hold?

I don't think we can wait - I think I read it's use it pre-season or lose.

Will try and find a reference.

We can elevate another rookie mid-season.

We can also elevate during the year if we have an LTI.

We can wait. Evans for me.

May be so but Lawrence starred against Box Hill I am reliably told hence inclusion in squad.I feel Tom McDonald was impressive at times in the NAB cup trials.

Definitely a big game for young Kelvin this week (in the event he plays).

I have little insight on who is most likely to be elevated despite after the RD having a slight impression that Nicholson had a head start on the other youngsters. Quite simply a "watch this space" scenario for me now, genuinely looking forward to the announcement.

On the subject of rookie lists, in case anyone missed this article:

From what I've seen and heard of the rookies, I think Evans would be the stand out.

That being said, I haven't seen or heard much about Lawrence.

The only thing I know about Lawrence is that collingwood were filthy when we picked him. Apparently they had spent a fair amount of time and effort scouting him and were very keen to get him.(This information was gained in a conversation with a collingwood coterie member with a full set of teeth)

Tom McDonald is not a rookie - he's on the senior list.

Newton for mine. He is the onle one likely to play anytime soon.

With McKenzie injured I'm going for Evans.

He has been pretty good and the fact that they keep giving him game time shows me that they might be ready to elevate him.

Shame Campbell is injured, he would have been a monty.

I think the "pre-season" elevation (must be nominated by Tuesday next week) will be Evans and then I suppose if Campbell is up and running and deemed fit enough, I would expect him to be the nominated "mid-season" rookie - a backup ruckman is something we really need and particularly in the second half of the season if Jamar is, as I expect, taking most of the load; then if there is an LTI, I suppose they will look at the best fit at the time according to the position impacted by the LTI.

Martin will play back up for the short term so it's Evans for mine.

There are two nominated rookie elevations this year - next week and mid-season. That is why I said Evans next week and Campbell mid-season (if Spencer doesn't suddenly find form - I don't think Martin will be a reliable back-up for a full season).

You would only nominate Evans if you believed he is close to immediately getting a game. Although he has looked promising for mine he is a fair way off being in our starting 21 and outside that there are probably 4-5 mids outside of this I would play before him.

Newton will be back in 3 weeks. There is a massive opening for a jack of all trades to play second ruck. Martin for mine has done little to convince me this is him and unless to play 2 rucks there is next to know one to fill the relief spot aside from Netwon. Therefore there is more likelihood Newton will be needed in the early oart of the season.

I would pick him ahead of Bail, Jones, Strauss, Blease and Gysberts at this stage.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
