Big differene between Fev and Cousins is Cousins was a smart bloke doing stupid things, get him away from those things and he is valuable.

Fev is just stupid. Outside of kicking a football he has nothing going for him. I know his cousin and Fev has been told not to attend the family christmas lunch since he was 17 because he gets drunk and abusive. The bloke is poison, and i would be extremly dissapointed if Casey picked him up.

There is a big difference between abusive alcoholic and stupid.

I think he is actually quite smart in some ways.

It would seem he has had a serious problem for a very very long time and his family has actually been too stupid to get help for him.

Instead they shunned him.

Clever and caring.

That actually gives me an insight into why he is the way he is.

Not much support there.

I'm not advocating taking him on at Casey, but if he has cleaned his act up and can demonstrate that, then he could act as a valuable cautionary tale to our kids.

Often the best way to stay on the straight and narrow is to associate yourself with a purpose that won't tolerate the abuse (hence sponsors with AA, etc).

I can see Fev devoting himself to helping young blokes avoid the traps he fell into.

Whether it's at Casey or not, it would be good for him.

But for Casey...

We have a few young developing forwards (Cook, Howe).

It'd be a shame to have him take the focus in the side so that they don't develop effectively.

I'm not sure how it would go.

You know his family? You know they haven't tried or provided support? Or maybe they have and have given up because it's like hitting your head against a wall...seems as though both Carlton and Brisbane tried to help but have given up.

Perhaps don't bag the family in this case, you don't know they haven't tried to help, your'e calling them stupid people on an assumption, which is completely unfair on them.

That one simple act speaks volumes.

To ban him from Christmas at the age of 17?

What led him to adopt that behaviour to begin with?

Ridiculous.

Either they haven't tried or they've given up too easily.

Don't make weak excuses for them.

You seem to be excusing him from his own behaviour and putting the blame squarely on his family, which is unfair.

the russian is right.

When does the boy become a man?

When are his mistakes his own?

When does someone move on from a spotlight they can't handle?

Brendan needs to find something other than football to make his life worthwhile.

The Journey from 'Boy' to 'Man' as people describe, is an emotional enlightenment. Crossing a Rope Suspension bridge with gaping holes. Those that have good family support with a strong communitive relationship with the parents & peers, usually cross without too much distress.

Those who do not, especially those who physically mature, ahead of their emotional maturity, that do not have a close & understanding relationship with the parents will struggle emotionally. (Thats where They Need help & support). A little like dangling on a bunjy rope, off that suspension bridge, caught in an emotional stalemate, at the end of the rope upside down. At the mercy of freind & foe.

This is why there are therapy groups all ove the western world, because Not everyone comes through adolescence well. And thats why good people put their hand up to help.

Ther are people who don't care if it of no advantage to their personal gain.

The ban was from the extended family Christmas with the cousins, grandparents etc. I have no idea what his immediate family are like.

Two words, no thanks.

I don't want Fev running around stealing the attention from our upcoming forwards at the Scorps.

Ditto...........

Hope we don't have a problem brewing.... between us and the Scorpions?

Posted

As others have posted, I don't want Fev impeding the development of young forwards, but that's just the reality of the affiliate system.

On a side note, I don't think the door is completely, 100% shut on Fev's AFL career. If he put his head down, played a ripper of a season in the VFL and maybe did a bit of community service on the side, he'd have slight chance of getting another year or two in the AFL.

Posted

If he is likely to get benefit from playing in a VFL side he could try one of the ones without an AFL attachment. Or maybe GWS. But at age 30, is this a serious proposition?

Ummmm...... You do know that what he would be doing at Casey is kicking a football right?

I really wouldn't mind him playing for Casey. Obviously he would be bound to an extremely tight behavior clause in his contract. First sign on stuffing up and he would be out the door. I really don't think Casey have much to lose by signing him.

I disagree, but I don't follow Casey. It might be good for Casey but disasterous for Melbourne. Fevola's efforts at Carlton not only affected the "good name" of the club but sidetracked the careers of many other young players

Carlton's 'Good Name?' You must be talking about another Carlton to the one I grew up knowing.

Fair enough you disagree with me. I don't expect many to.

The way I see it is that he will train with Casey, therefore contact with our players would minimized to match days.

I wouldn't mind Casey this year ,the Dees next year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
