As the saying goes "one Swallow doesnt make a Summer"

One outing doesnt make for an iron clad case either. Two games give just a itty witty bit more to go . Just a little .

Thrashing the Giants isnt a surprise... Beating the Swans on debut was not I imagine what many expected.

Dont take these guys too lightly. They WONT finish last.

They were impressive without some ablett and bock. Personally I have never thought them as a certainty for last, for me Brisbane have been looking the goods since the end of last season!

Posted

They were never going to be easy beats. Who thought that? You don't have the best player in the league and be easy beats, whether that player is playing or not.

Posted

I agree. Brisbane were horrible the other night. Will be interesting to see how much of an impact brown, black and power can make.

Did anyone watch the suns play? Any insight into what style of footy they play?

Posted

We will see. I wouldn't be racing out to the TAB to back them into the top 8 just yet. Plenty of testing times lay ahead for the gc17 group. It is not like they have been playing together for seasons. This is a pretty green group that will have to blend together as a unit. They will win games and won't be an easy beat, but I can hardly see them playing finals this season.

Best not to read too much into pre-season form and let's not put aside the fact they were facing a team that had already played two quarters. That said they did look a very well drilled and professional unit with the older heads having a significant impact. Hunt notably didn't seem to put a foot wrong. Got well in front of his man, won a few contests and kicked with precision. Swallow also looks the goods. With the mix of experience and youth that they have, I would not be surprised at all to see GC finish a couple clear of the bottom. In a few years' time, the mind boggles at how good they might be.

Saw them against Casey last year when Miller kicked his 10 .

Make no mistake they play fast , exciting football .

Listening to JJJ news on the car radio at 7am. They must get their news feed out of Sydney. Extensive reporting on last nights ARL match and yesterdays Rugby Union in Canberra. Practice match reports on 4 other ARL clubs including the Storm but not a word on the historic first up GWS/Sydney derby. Must be a big yawn up there.

GC got a lot of good young talent in the draft. This good young talent, in their first year, will probably play like most good young talent does in their first year - enthusiastic start, slowing down midseason, injuries and that famous military man visiting in the last half. Older, tougher, heavier sides will push them around.

They may not be bottom this year, but they will be in the bottom 4.

In 2012 they will have some suffering from 2nd year blues. That's when we will start seeing if McKenna can coach. Might get out of bottom 4 if most things go right for them.

In 2013 they should be settling into it. Top 8 finish? Maybe, but no guarantee.

They look to be 2 or 3 years behind us in building. 2 years behind if we lose Scully, 3 years behind if we keep him.

Swallow looks to be a gun in the making, any chance of swapping him for $cully?

It's a joke,Scully will stay a Dee.

Just remember that in 2006 Carlton won the NAB Cup and the wooden spoon.

Just because Gold Coast, Essendon and West Coast have all progressed to Week 2 does not mean any of them are automatically going to have a good year.

Posted

My only real point in the thread is that many supposedly 'knowledgable" pundits and a lot of the bookies etc have them as last or next to. I simply feel that will be far from teh case.

Dont even think bottom 4..plenty worse than them to take those.

In short.. you wouldnt want to go out having eaten teh chocolates first !! Take nothing for granted :)

I can only see them getting above Brisbane , the rest of the comp should have 'em covered purely on mature strength .

Having said that alot depends on whether Johnathan Brown can put a season together .

It's more a forced, defensive yawn.

And they do not want Hunt to do well, at all.

They are so convinced he will fail that if he doesn't the northern states will see hyperventilation in apocalyptic measure.

They see it as an existential threat, really.

It's a little bit pathetic...

Not as pathetic as Craig Foster's "I think rubbishing the passions of AFL and NRL supporters will win them over to the A-League" dogma of late.

Who does that orange-faced bloke think he is?

Anyway...

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
