TIME TO DELIVER

Colin Sylvia is adamant inexperience should no longer be a factor.

"Our future is now," he said. "We can't keep saying we're a young team anymore. Our goal is set for the top eight . . . it's an achievable goal.

I think that's the first time I've heard anyone at the club say we can make finals since the middle of 2007. It's the first time in Bails tenure that I've heard anyone from the club suggest anything other than being competitive as a goal. The rebuild is officially over, we're back in the hunt.

rebuild but now hes got a good team in place i wanna see see how well he can use it!!

Yep, i am totally with you. Now we get to see how Bailey moves the Team around to cover injuries, makes moves to stop Goal avalanches, win games after being 5-6 goals down etc.

I hope Dean Bailey has also waited for these moments. I think he can do it

Interesting to hear Col say the F word. We haven't heard statements like that for a while.

I would expect that the graph of expectation will rise sharply amongst all arms of the club, players. coaches, board and supporters. It will be interesting to see how individuals perform under the pressure of this expectation and some of the inevitable disappointments.

Where was that?

Also thought I might note that I saw him at Melbourne Airport last Friday - he'd just gone through those metal detectors and was walking towards the gates. Would've thought that would interrupt his training...

Yes- so am I - expected that they want to and should improve but place that pressure on themselves?. However, when one sits back and thinks we got beaten by a few points in 4 games, won 8, and drew with the premiers, well one must start saying we would be disappointed in if we went backwards, going forwards would make us finalists and our draw really ensures that we should make finals.

I'm hoping we start games well and don't have to fight back from 5-6 goals down .

Let the opposition work on stopping our goal avalanches . B)

its only a 40 minute flight on virgin up to mildura where he is from, so wouldn't be too bad, just a weekend trip probably

Totally agree mate, but it is good to get out of those positions as well.

I remember the day Essendon beat us after being 43 points behind, my next door neighbour reminded me about that one for years!!! he was lucky to live. B)

Not since 2007...

Most infamously, Brad Green's 1-9/2-9 comment that we could still make the finals - days before being thrashed by the Tigers in Daniher's sacking match. (If memory serves)

Neitz when captain said a stupid thing after we were beaten by Adelaide in the qualifying final for the prelim in 02 after having the game in the bag. He said the players would never ever perform as badly as this shocker of a fade out again. So in the first game of the next season they did exactly same thing again. And again and again for a few more seasons on.

Hated his speech after getting rolled in the 2000 GF aswell .

Along the lines of " IF we're lucky enough to get into this position again ...."

Not what I wanted to hear David .

Yes, said without heart. These guys don't speak or act with passion and feeling anymore. It's all professionalism and spin. This club, not the supporters has been soulless for a long time. I hope things have changed for the better now with Jimmy at the helm. If they don't do it for him they'll never do it for anyone else.

It will Impact,,, BUT we cannot use it as an excuse from now on, as we chase a spot up the ladder.

Jeff White said the same thing early on in '08, too.

If I remember correctly, he was comparing 1998 to 2008 and saying we weren't out of it yet.

I remember an article from 2004 (I think), where a host of ex-players were claiming we were better than the side of '64. It may have been the week we went top - the week before we lost the last 5 games of the year.

(Oh dear)

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
