Saturday members left cold

HI all,

Let me qualify this by saying that I am a member every year regardless of the amount of games I can actually attend in a year.

I play in a band that starts at 6:00pm every Sunday at the Geebung (Hawthorn) so most Sunday games are a no go for me (1:10 games the exception).I am a Saturday game man and go every week (Dees obviously when they are playing) regardless of the game because I just love my footy. This leaves me a little bewildered that this year we have no home games on a Saturday at all (barring TIO). Surely this cannot be allowed to happen by the club or the AFL. Please forgive if this topic has been hashed out at some time in the past but as I just got my Members stuff in the mail and had a really good go over the fixture I was quite surprised to find that my membership this year was quite useless (apart from the obvious benefit to the club which I enjoy giving).

I prefer Saturday games there is nothing better than spending Sunday morning reading about a win, it tops off a good weekend.

Firstly can I say (whilst not a geebung regular) I must have heard you guys a few times and you are pretty good to my uneducated musical ears. Although there is an area between the bar and windows along Auburn road where either the volume is too loud or the speakers are inferior quality and the music becomes quite a bit painful.

Back on topic, it sucks doesn't it. We finally get some more night games this year and get shafted on Saturday games. I like Sundays better so it doesn't both me too much but I'd prefer for an even spread.

Yeah I know what you mean regarding the sound. unfortunately that's the PA we are forced to run and the window situation makes spreading an even sound a nightmare for our sound man! Still a fun end of week gig that we have been doing for nearly a decade and great if we have had a win which makes the gig easier for me. Not so good if we have just been belted and I'm forced to pretend to be in a good mood!

was in a newsagency the other day and while looking at magazines (of G rating) i came across the afl draw 2011. which they publish. on the inside cover it has the goals stated quite clearly by number.

the number 1 goal of the afl fixture, before maximising revenue etc etc etc was to have a fair and equal draw as much as possible. suffice to say, i couldnt believe my eyes....

I'm so busy even on weekends I miss too many games whatever the draw. Our draw reflects our Cinderella status for many years. Got to start cracking heads and vertebrae on the field or nothing will change.

Any danger of a captial being thrown in any of your posts there Mr. Teacher?

Hey, try being a Sydney based member... we haven't had a game here for three seasons I think it is, and won't have one next year either. If I want to see the guys go around, I have to invest in accommodation and airfares :-(

I'm sure he would have put a captial if he knew what that is

A fair point you make- Gary Lyon I think made this point earlier this year as his kids played sport on a Sunday. Should be a balabce on days played. Something the club could and should ask for next year.Suggest you write or email Schwabbie ,he'd appreciate your feedback

Am rather disappointed too . Sat arvo is still my fav for footy . Sundays the wife invariably has me going somewhere:(( you'd thinkat least 2-3 sat games :((

More Friday night and Sunday games usually suits me as I play footy on Saturdays. But when you throw a wife, a Melbourne Victory game, and watching Liverpool late on the tele into the mix, something usually has to give!

Probably the liverpool games! Record them!

You live in sydney, what do expect. With WS, your odds have increased.

It strikes me though as a little odd given how much the club has sought to reemphasize the heritage angle and such that we won't have any Sat arvo games in Melb . Surely the Club was born and built out of the G on saturate afternoons !!

We've brought back the demon, the collies, even the collar. Hopefully next season we can have a few ST arvo games. That would be VERY Melbourne.

Way of the times, we now have thursday and monday nights. I think the traditional days of football are well and truely gone. TV wins.

Whilst I acknowledge TV is very much the driving force much still needs to be given to the ability to get bums on seats. Attendences is still very much what drives this game. To abandon in such a wholesale manner the tradition of the game seems to me a little too hasty.

Note Im not suggesting all games on Sat...but come on..some, surely !!!

What do I expect? Oh I don't know, perhaps one game against Sydney every year or so actually played in Sydney rather than having it played in Canberra? Yes, the odds have increased with GWS joining the comp in 2012, so in can celebrate the fact it might (and I stress the word 'might') only be 5 years between drinks... not bad considering we pay the same membership (I believe).

I actually like our draw, Purely for selfish reasons as I play footy on Saturday arvo and that is for me why more Sunday games the better. Frustrating though for the masses that love a traditional Saturday fixture.

When we have the easiest fixture of any team I don't think we should complain too much. Having said that, the one thing that annoys me

is that we play WCE at Etihad in round 21. What's that all about?

every year the dees pot in the wish list, to play more Saturday home games, and every year the afl give as Sunday home games, have a look at the draw and every time we play games on Saturday, it is vs a big vic clubs. EG, essendon, the AFL look after these clubs, the draw tells you who the AFL care about and who the AFL don't care much about. BUT when we start kicking every ones ass we will get a better draw The AFL will have no choice

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
