After listening to Robbie Flower talk of his joy of playing for the team he supported as a kid, getting Stretch would be sweet, and counter to the cynical mercenary money grubbing dross we've had to wade through in recent years...

Stretch just smashed his 3km coming in second by a nose out of the midfielders.

Not out of the realm of possibility that a club puts their hand up first round.

Isn't bidding on now?

Billy, slow down please. Slow down.

;)

I said that yesterday and got pilloried. SLOW DOWN Billy!

Great Effort by Billy.

Obviously a very fit kid who can run all day and spread well, some we are lacking on the outside.

In all seriousness though, congrats to the kid who is clearly taking up his dad's advice and pushing himself to continually improve.

Roos obviously is in his ear as well. He's trying to instill a culture of hard work and pushing yourself, the last thing we want to tell a potential draftee is to under perform given our "tanking" crisis.

Seriously WTF is he doing? We're taking you, son, stop raising your value!

Looks like he is a proud little fella.

If we rate him 30th and are forced to take him Pick 22 or pass on him...

What do you do?

Shoot the hostage.

That reference was from The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down...

I'd rather see him flip the bird to the draft camp and smoke cones out the back so everyone passes on him and we get him with pick 200. But that's just me

I think it is great he is working hard and understands this is a great opportunity for him. If he is worth pick 22 then so be it. Lets face it we did well getting Jack Viney for pick 27 and we may still get lucky and pick up Billy with a third round

Petracca pulled out of it too, with a lap to go.

tanking?? Are Carlton after him?

We should just take Billy with whatever pick is necessary. If he costs us out second round pick then so be it.
We need to establish good connections with the club and bring in guys who will love the place and strive to push us up the ladder where we belong. Stretch will be a good player, he'll turn out an Isaac Smith/Brad Hill type. He has good endurance, great agility and decent skills. Most of all he has a strong work ethic and always wants to learn and push himself. I can't wait to see him in red and blue tearing doing the wing of the MCG. Will wind up one of the best players of this draft!

I'm willing to take him with our second round pick but why are we showing off how good he is and tempting clubs into making us do that. We're taking him.. Who is he trying to impress with his combine heroics?

Maybe he likes to perform to the extent of his ability, rather than hold his best back because it might benefit the club that wants him?

Hmmm, why does this sound familiar?

If the club rates him as Pick 30, and we are forced to take him with our second rounder, then the choice is simple. We pass.
That means the guy we pick up will (hopefully) be better than him.
Cut throat industry and no brownie points for picking up a guy just because his dad played here a generation ago.
Do whatever it takes to get the BEST list possible, not the most sentimental.

I'll continue to put my faith in Roos and co. For a deeply cynical person, I've been doing that a lot lately. If he's worth a second rounder, he's worth a second rounder.

Let's not forget the last guy we passed on because he wasn't valued as near the pick we had. He also wanted to play for us with his best mate and ... well, let's just drop that.

Yeah that's a cool story but we've already nominated him, now we just have to bid.

Very big chance that can be with our third round pick, but because he decided to be Ironman at the combine a club might actually consider taking him somewhere before our second.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
