Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Robert Eddy might not be many things, but one thing you can't deny is his toughness. The guy played through multiple injuries and still managed to chalk up a few games for one of the best teams in the comp. I think he is still only 22/23 years old.

Eddy is far from a star, but I have no issue giving him a rookie list spot. There are far worse players out there.

I think he is the perfect example of a good ordinary footballer who has gotten by on hard work and toughness.

I wouldn't take him because he wouldn't be in our best 22.

No point recruiting someone that does not fit that criteria.

Correct, he played in a GF with Broken Bones, give the guy some credit. My Brother's family are all mad sainters, so i have seen a few of their games. He is not that bad. Not Brilliant, but he does work hard.

If he is still keen to play he is worth at least an interview.

?? Best 22's are very hard to find. Perhaps you can tell us who will fit into our best 22?

It makes sense.

If anyone, or nearly anyone, other than E25 said that you wouldn't have noticed.

There is no point in trading for depth.

If there is a role for a bloke, there has to be a significant chance that he could be given said role.

Otherwise, what is the point?

Exactly.

And for that reason you dont waste rookie spots on types like Eddy and Anthony.

Eddy is symptomatic of the problem St. Kilda has ATM. He points us to the reason why they are unlikely to improve in their current cycle.

Eddy was one of the bottom half dozen players in the Saints' grand final teams who just didn't cut it. This lack of depth is the their Achilles heel and while the situation took a turn for the worse in 2010, it doesn't look like improving any time real soon.

The problem was not aided by their recruitment of Andrew Lovett and Jesse Smith, their refusal to deal on Ball, a reliance on aging ruckmen King and Gardner and their over-inflated belief in the worth of Koschitzke.

I always have liked hard working types and I think they should not be dismissed outright. One is far more useful than two talents that don't deliver. The way people are dismissing the Saints is like they are talking about Richmond. Amazing how the Saints played so well with so little depth and crushing teams with depth week after week. They could have pinched a flag if the ball didn't take a weird bounce in the first GF. An Eddy on our list is not going to decimate our depth or derail our long term plans. St Kilda's structural problems are far different to ours. A little bit of that blood type in our team won't hurt us. These guys get better with age if they don't get injured.

He's the type of player who can set a good example with his defensive pressure which many of our guys are clueless with at the moment. And apply some more self sacrificing midfield hardness which is also a priority. This guy even if he plays only a dozen games a season could give us the critical 1% edge that could be the difference in winning tight games. I think he would be a bargain in a rookie spot at minimal risk.

Well if this is the case- state whom do you feel we should get or the type of player we require in your opinion. We have 10 picks overall-I think. Just for the record- In the mix,I think at least two talls, a HBF, Wingman type should be very highly considered. And a possible forward/ruckman type in the rookie list.Your opinion I'd appreciate.

ND - Best Available with all picks.

RD - Depending on what we get in the ND, I would rookie senior players who can play fwd ruck and possibly a small running defender with good disposal skills. I would not stuff my Xmas stocking with mature age rookies. The FD should be judicial. They should use the other rookie spots on young players or players who have yet to make it in the AFL.

IMO. Eddy and Anthony are not the players I believe we need.

I hope the club really looks at Eddy a lot closer than some posters here who dismiss him outright without even bothering to articulate a sentence as to why. I suppose the club should be a good position to assess him now that Brian Royal is back.

The reason I'd be ambivalent is because there's nothing that differentiates him from hundreds of other flankers around, and he's already had one shot at making the grade and came up short. I'd prefer the club had a crack at a kid who had a very low probability of making it, rather than someone who has already failed to once.

I wouldn't be unhappy if the club did its due dilligence and decided he was worth a shot (because in the end, what would I know?), and I'd be stoked if they did and he turned out to be a player. But on face value, it seems like a course that leads to a very low potential payoff, so I don't think there's a lot of point in trying.

Well he played two GF's with bad injuries. I don't think it a matter of him coming up short. More a victim of St Kilda having structural problems IMO.

Thats the problem I think with the Sainters brains trust, they seem to have too much faith in lots of hard workers but they lack enough class players.

Too much haste, when they should have taken some more time to draft enough class players. It's difficult to do from high up the ladder.

That's all well and good, but there's still nothing separating him from a lot of other flankers, as Nasher said.

He has no elite abilities that would make our team better.

I think we have a better version of Eddy in Rohan Bail.

We have enough elite abilities to develop. And the chances of finding them late is slim.We need some more hard workers to balance it out.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
