Permission to train list

Correct me if I am wrong but it is my opinion that the only reason PJ is training with us is that we missed out on David Hale. Surely to god if we got him then it would have been curtains for PJ. FWIW keeping an experienced ruckman on the rookie list isn't a terrible move incase touch wood spencer is injured again .. as usual and somthing happens to Jamar I would rather PJ than rely on Newton and Dunn. I don't think Gawn is ready to come in and be #1 ruckman yet so if it's only for a year I see no problem with it.

Again, Stefan Martin says hi.

We're already paying him. He's on our senior list. Why the hell wouldn't we use him?

We don't need PJ. We have enough back up. Jamar, Spencer, Martin, and Newton on the rookie list, are enough. That spot could be given to TMac or to another young kid.

Just a few words on the players I know:

Alex Mcleod - Alex is a very light midfielder who has super speed and exceptional agility. He possesses one of the best side-steps of any player in Victoria. He is however a very poor kick of the football. He's technique is woeful and execution is very hit and miss.

Cameron Johnson - IMO he is one of the best players below his knees in Victoria. He is a well balance forward who can kick the ball a really long way. He does however bounce around packs like an absolute cat and doesn’t seem to have any want for a physical contest.

Spencer and Martin have been a bit injury prone and I wouldn't like to see Newton as 1st ruck. I hope we rookie a ready-to-play 1st ruck - it's only one of 6 picks although I agree it does depend on which one we feel we need to use to get someone worthwhile. If there's no better alternative I'd definitely take PJ at pick 84.

Thank-you. Nice info. Nice balanced write-ups. Suppose at this level all players missed in the draft will have their deficiencies.

Now it comes down to which ones the FD think they can work with and iron out the weaknesses to an extent.

But nonetheless Spencer and Martin are on our senior list already. How many back up rucks do we need?

It is hard to say - ask Collingwood in 2010 and it's 0 ask Hawthorn and it's 6. For #1 ruckman in 2011 we've got Jamar, Spencer, Martin, Fitzpatrick, Gawn in that order out of potentially 46 listed players - are you feeling lucky? I do concede that there is also the issue of getting them all game-time at some level. If they're all fit then at least one possibly two will be playing Casey 2s. How many ruckmen do Casey have on their list? We'd ideally want them to have zero so we can play all our ruckmen but I can see why that may not be palatable to them particularly considering the general absence of MFC listed players in the last 2 VFL finals series.

I feel that our current stocks are enough.

Let's be honest, if Jamar goes down, we're in trouble, regardless of having PJ on the list or not.

This thread simply highlights the absolute stupidity of the discussion about Hansen. The bloke was advised to retire and has a history of missing games through injury. We know PJ is not up to scratch either in ruck or forward. Look elsewhere, I say.

I stopped pass training on Monday, and a few of these guys where training. The one that impressed me the most was a miny Matt Bate, short red head bloke, worked his arse off alwasy at the front of the group and looked like a hard nut. Does any one know who that would be?

looks very quick and loves to take the game on! wouldn't be disappointed if we took him

It's hard to tell from a little highlights package, but I reckon this kid would run himself into trouble far too often at AFL level.

Bits of it do give that impression, but his pace and attack on the ball and man seem like assets.

..... Cameron would have loved playing for us the last 5 years in our forward line... "he is one of the best players below his knees in Victoria."

Plenty of fwds have made it in footy being "outside" players. Milne says hi for one.

Younger players with pace are often encouraged to take the game on, but when they hit tougher competition that tends to diminish.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
