Try putting a forward line together with what we already have, we have a pretty exciting and dangerous forward line.

Adding Anthony would only hold back what we've already got, and i cant really see him filling the role we want him to anyway.

I'd prefer Darling in our forward line over Anthony any day of the week. Darling would bring what Anthony lacks - forward pressure.

As rightly pointed out in another thread, we will be committed to taking Viney in the 2012 draft with our first pick. Quality talls are bloody tough to find, even more so in the later rounds of the draft. We will only have 2010 and 2011 to find a quality tall, because if we wait until 2013 to draft one, it will be too late. It takes a good 3-4 years for a KPF to really hit their straps in AFL. By 2017, we could have missed the boat with the likes of Davey, Green, Russian, etc either retired or coming into the twilight of their careers.

Good midfielders and HBF are a dime a dozen, Quality KPP's are not. As the saying goes - a quality tall over a quality small. We need to make acquiring a KPF our main target over the next 2 years and i doubt we are going to be able to poach a quality forward already in the system.

Look at our rookies at the moment, we've only got Michael Newton (after Spencer and Jordie are upgraded) I believe.

That means that we've got 5 picks in the rookie draft this year.

With Gold Coast coming in and GWS having the first eight picks, it means that our first pick is pick 14 and then every 17th pick after that. It's likely that we'll be picking up our final rookie selection somewhere in the 70-90 range.

Also remember that we can upgrade a rookie from round one as a result of only having one veteran on the list.

Therefore, we should consider that we could pick up Anthony with a late rookie pick, with not much talent remaining by then, and only half his salary could count towards the salary cap. Also remember, that the rookies are on a two year deal I believe, that means that we will only be able to pick one rookie next year with only Newton being out of contract (unless we promote another rookie), and will have to either promote, extend for one year or delist five rookies in 2012.

He may not be the answer to our forward line problems, but it wouldn't hurt to give him, or someone similar a try.

The line that worries me most is

Everyone can change, but would prefer to take a punt on a 18 year old who fits the job description, than someone who isn't quite the right fit AND may destabilise the team.

The killer for me is when he said:

I watched the Casey v Collingwood game at Victoria Park this year. Miller smashed Anthony into an infinite number of infinitely small particles.

You do realise you are talking about VFL football? Like it means something. Like it's even worth mentioning.

In 3 seasons of AFL football, Anthony has posted tallies of 25 and 50 goals. Miller's best effort in 8 seasons is 26 goals. In those 8 seasons at AFL level, that was the only time Brad managed to kick over 20 for the year - something Anthony has already done twice in 3 years. As for the "one strange cat" comments, who really cares? People said similar things and a whole lot worse about Plugger. It's not like Jack jumps on cabs like Daniel Kerr, gets in fights with team-mates like Ben Cousins or takes raunchy pictures with dogs like Joel Monaghan. He's squeaky clean as far as I can tell but he has been labelled weird, so what. How can something as trivial as that get beaten so far out of proportion?

Haven't we all learnt from previous drafts. If Anthony is determined to go to Freo, it doesn't matter what position we hold in the PSD, he will go to Freo.

Melb arnt in the business of picking up players against their will.

If that was the case, he would have declared the club by now. Ball made it very clear in trade week he wanted to go to Collingwood and walked out when the deal wasn't done, whereas Anthony has only indicated he wants to be at a club who will offer more opportunities than the Magpies. He asked to be traded anywhere from what I've read and still hasn't nominated a preferred destination. Still up in the air as far as I can tell.

Quite true. But if we don't use pick 53 in the main draft, we will have a PSD pick available. In that scenario we may get him, if that is the wish of the FD.
