AFL 2011 Fixture Talk

The 2011 AFL fixture is due out on Friday 29 October.

According to 5AA as reported on bigfooty we have a round 1 interstate trip against Adelaide at AAMI (so lets hope it's a load of crap)!

Although it would suck playing at AAMI and we are facing another near certain 0-1 start, we haven't travelled in round 1 since 1998 so we can't complain.

That's not so bad! We have too break our hoodoo over there. Round 1 is the best time to do it and get some confidence up.

I will most likely make the trip for this one. A 7 & a 1/2 hour drive ain't so bad! I prefer it to be a Sunday game though and am hoping to have an RDO on the Monday!

Perfect weekend! Dee's by 5 goals...

Fixture rumors?! I love this place at times.

After waiting all summer you want Round 1 at home, but I guess were are due if this fixture rumour is true.

Like Dee tention says, plenty of time to plan for an interstate raid and get a win, what a great start to the year if we could manage that.

We'll see.

I also posted this on Bigfooty, but we've played the Hawks a few times in Round 1, haven't we? I remember in 2003-ish we beat them by a goal - didn't Junior attempt a specky and concuss himself or something like that? (I defintely remember a player doing that, not 100% sure if it was him)

I just checked, we played them in Round 1 in 2002-04, 2008 and 2010.

this is a fixture, not a draw

haha true. But our time will come.

Imagine we "drew" Adelaide at AAMI round 1. Nothing would instill confidence like a hoodoo breaking, round one interstate trip would. We have to do it sometime very true

I heard a while ago that we'd be travelling early, likely in Round 1 as we haven't been intersate in Round 1 since '98 which is a long time. I'd also like us to do more travel in the first half of the year, as with younger legs I think we could give the interstate games a better shot early rather than having 4 out of the last 8 away from the G when we're either tired or pushing for finals.

I'll repost the other thing I heard, which was an early-season Friday night away match against Collingwood (I'm tipping Round 3, with a home game in Round 2). AFL wants to build up our rivalry once more.

Just rumours, but we'll see what happens.

It is just that (a load of carp) according this article in the Hun which has the Crows at home to the Hawks at AAMI in round 1:-

Today's HUN has the following Round 1 match-ups (I'm going to assume they're correct to draw my conclusion):

St Kilda-Geelong

Adelaide-Hawthorn

Carlton-Richmond

West Coast-North Melbourne

Given Gold Coast has a bye, it leaves Brisbane, Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Sydney and the Western Bulldogs as possible opponents.

Essendon wants a Melbourne-based club for its Round 1 game. That won't be Collingwood, so that leaves us or the Dogs. Given it'll be at Etihad I say it will be Essendon-Bulldogs.

That leaves a whole lot of interstate sides, and us.

Conclusion: Round 1: Collingwood-Melbourne.

I personally would love to play them in Round 1. Big stage, 80,000+ crowd, test us against the best.

I don't think so because we're slated to play them in round 3.

What we do know is that with Adelaide and West Coast playing at home, Port Adelaide and Fremantle will open with away games. I wouldn't mind having a crack at either of those at the G in round 1.

Where'd you hear that? I heard we're down for a Friday night clash early in the season. Whether it's Round 1 or 2 or 3 or whenever, I like the idea.

I also liked the idea of us travelling more in the first half and having more MCG games in the second half.

Wouldn't Coll v Port be on TEN delayed ?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
