Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

They have to make a quick rebuild. I reckon that up to 8,,, could go.

They may be better to let Ablett go & get the trades, or they could be down for some time.

No doubt the window has been slammed shut. Some may say they have underachieved with just the 2 flags, but geez I`d take it thanku very much.

Chapman is so important to this team but just can`t stay fit in September. I wonder how much longer he will be at his best? Hawkins should be traded, he is useless. Hunt is another that looks very ordinary at times, would probably struggle to get a game in our backline. Pods might be a flash in the pan. Ablett is waxing his surfboard as I type. Mooney is no good.

I hope we play them at the G next year, the tide just might be turning.

People react quickly to a bad defeat but remember they were preliminary finalists. However looking at the above list you are correct in that changes will be made. They have too many older players and actually have some talented youngsters who need the opportunity to get game time and add some pace into the side. Some of those listed will retire and some others like Gary will head elsewhere. They are a smart and well run club and they will still be thereabouts next year. They could have 3 picks in the top 30 with Gary leaving and a few trades could see them really load up on talent in the coming seasons. It's probably their wake up call that they are not top of the heap anymore.

Surely they wouldn't use their compensation picks in this draft!

Milburn, Darren - Andrew Mackie

Scarlett, Matthew - Jeremy Laidlaw

Mooney, Cameron - Mitch Brown

Ottens, Brad - Dawson Simpson

Wojcinski, David - Taylor Hunt

Ling, Cameron - Simon Hogan

Podsiadly, James - Tom Hawkins

Enright, Corey - Daniel Menzel

Chapman, Paul - Steven Motlop

Rooke, Max - didn't play anyway

Corey, Joel - Mitch Duncan

Hunt, Josh - who cares

Ablett, Gary - Big whole, but good picks if he goes

Personally if Gary leaves I'd try and implement these changes over the next 2 years. They will stay competitive in that time anyway. Some of these kids are a bit speculative but they will still develop in a good side and should come on quickly. Guys like Laidler, Menzel, Duncan and Hunt have shown they can play at AFL level already. In fact I think Geelong went in with a side that was too slow and at least T. Hunt should have been playing. Mackie and Hogan are experienced players.

The big question for Geelong is do you throw the coach out as well after next year. Bomber is looking tired and his philosophy and hand crafted side is looking out dated.

From my previous post on another thread.

Are we seeing the end of the Geelong Dynasty?

I think so, amazing how a year effects players quite a few are now looking a little slow.

I have thought the cracks were starting to appear this year and last night we saw the Grand Canyon!

If Gazza heads north they are gone.

He had 40 disposals last night, without him the margin would have been double.

I have watched the great white hope ( Hawkins )at Geelong the last two years.

Sorry to say he is at best an average player.

Just goes to prove a very good under age player and high draft pick ( I know he was farther and Son )

does not guarantee a very good senior player. 1 kick last night.

I have thought for some time he was being made to look better than he was by playing for Geelong.

Every week his return is modest in a team that gives its forward line a lot of well directed enteries.

Would be playing for Coburg if he was at Richmond!

I can feel a win at Geelong coming up in 2011!

They will be a good side next year still inside the eight but the flag is now a fading memory for Geelong.

Ling was appalling. Podsiadly was once again exposed as the slow over-rated peddler that he is. Hawkins is terrible, always has been. Milburn's over the hill, Scarlett's getting close. Byrnes is untalented and the only goals he kicks are in the goalsquare. Mooney is the worst triple-premiership player I've ever seen.

If Ablett didn't play last night (what an absolute gun) they would have lost by another 6 goals. He was extraordinary.

I can never help but laugh when people say things like this - "trade player x, he is useless". Yes, because other clubs will be just itching to bring in a player that is useless!

Tommy Hawkins I actually bump into quite a bit and I am sure he is still just a kid

mentally. When he matures he will be ok, cos he is a massive unit, but he doesn't yet have the self-assuredness he needs to compete at that level (AFL finals).

I mean, I try to look him in the eye when I speak to him and I'm sure I intimidate him, without meaning to.

He's a big unit, he'll just take a bit more time.

Disagree with your description of Pods. He took a few contested marks i50 yet kicked poorly at goal to finish off which was most unlike him based on what he has achieved this season ( ~50 goals in 18 games). Not many others took marks for the Cats or even presented for that matter i50 - unlike Pods on the few occassions.

Mooney was ordinary.

Ablett, wow. Unbelievable.

That was all in the second half. Junk time. Meaningless. When the game is there to be won, and the opposition is half-decent, Podisadly can't cut it. He dominates when he (and the team) beat up on lower-ranked sides, but he gets exposed for a lack of pace, no second efforts and poor ball-handling skills, especially below the knees, when the opposition is good.

Ablett was good, but his impact was quite average. He was always under huge pressure when he got possession and rarely was able to find open space. His 40 possessions probably over flatter him. He was by far Geelong's best player, but Coll would feel his impact was well contained.

I'd say the lack of finding open space and the pressure he was under was a direct result of the ineptitude of his teammates.

No reflection on ablett at all.

I never said it was a reflection on ablett

Probably a combination of his teammates ineptitude and the Filths ability to get numbers around the loose ball

Due to the old age of most of its top line players Geelong will now end up in a downward spiral similar to Brisbanes after winning 3 premierships in 2001,2002,2003.

Brisbane made the grand final in 2004 and were thumped.....in 2005 they eneded up 11th......

Leigh Matthews says that the end came very quickly and i think it will for Geelong as well...

Yes Ablett was great last night, But Collingwood allowed him to get the ball-when you look at his disposals they were kept to a minimum as far as damage goes. The Filth were extraodinary in the Corridor and at half back during the first half last night.

In the second half they were able to go back to 3rd gear..Ablett was great last night, but he was no Dane Swan. That guy was everywhere!!!

Agree... Ling looks like the oldest 29 year old getting around. He will retain the captaincy next year but after that I think he will be a fringe player and will need to step aside.

When they removed Lonergan's kidney did they also remove his ability to spoil?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
