Josh Fraser...2nd ruck?

Alan Johnson

Recommended Posts

The scary thing, is that if we'd lost that game to Carlton, we'd have had pick 1 instead of pick 4, and would have had the PP before the first round the following year, instead of after (pick 2, instead of pick 18)

If we'd lost that one game, our ruck division would be: Jamar, Kruiser and Nic Natanui. WOWOWOWOW!!!!

I dont believe MFC would have taken Kruezer at 1 if they had him. We had pick 4 in that draft and we were rapt to have got Morton. I understand that Cotchin was preferred to Kruezer. Although for a ruckman Kruezer if very promising. If we did get Kruezer we would not have been taking Nik Nat who in IMO has all the media heat but is still raw and unproven.

Another negative about getting Fraser is that I wouldn't be able to hang as much sh!t on my filth supporting mates. I usually only play this card when they have a crack about Watts or Trapper. They used to defend him and make excuses but now they have absolutely no come back for any Fraser related jibes, and often agree

One of Warnock (23 years old) or Hampson (22 years old) from Carlton would be worth looking at. Both are behind Kreuzer and currently behind Jacobs as well.

I'm not sure they would be a long term answer as successful second rucks as they can't do much else but ruck, but they would add depth behind Jamar, probably along with Spencer and Gawn.

Would allow us to give PJ the flick with no concerns.

I still have some faith in Martin. He and Fitzpatrick seem the best suited to play as second rucks as they offer something up forward.

If they cant do anything but ruck then what is the use of them as a 2nd ruck? Why would you just recruit for depth if they would be competing with Spencer and GAWN. If they are not getting a game in front of Jacobs then clearly they are no further along the progress path

We should be doing that anyway. PJ gives us zip. His position will be taken by a rookie and Spencer will be elevated.

That's the issue. We need a player to pinch hit in the 2nd ruck role

With the trend towards a pinch-hitter playing the second ruck role it's even more odd that people are advocating for a second ruck who can't do much else other than ruck (...and not ruck well enough to be your number one ruck!).

Agree totally. Richmond gets rubbished constantly for picking Tambling instead of Buddy or Roughhead... but the Filth chose Fraser over Pavlich (very glad btw that SuperPav isn't wearing black and white, it would've made the Buckley worship seem minor).

And yes, I will acknowledge the Tigers picked Fiora before Pavlich in the same draft. That hurts.

Josh Fraser?? Cannot stand the bloke....cant remember what year but remember him giving the wave to Jeff White on one particular Queens B'day game after the wobblers got a good start.....we ended up running all over them which was as sweet as it gets!!

I remember that moment well. Jeff White remembered it too, and absolutely caned that over rated Hack.

Please let us not see Josh "Malcolm" Fraser in a MFC Jumper.

The replies sum up my feelings. The only recycled players I would be happy with at the Dees will come in the PSD and I don't see us using that for a while.

Looking from the outside in i would expect Collingwood to be dissapointed with the progress of Josh Fraser

To me he plays like a Follower and not at all like a Ruckman

When he was drafted he was the next big thing according to some

Looks like one of those who only has himself to blame through lack of work not lack of ability

Not interested in Fraser in a Melbourne Jumper even if he played for free

Confirmation they were disappointed, when they traded for Jolly.

Big "No" from me.

Ok maybe not. I'm interested as to who people think WOULD be a good (experienced) 2nd ruck to pick up? We definitely need someone to support the big Russian sooner rather than later.

Just a thought starter - relax hey?

Your looking past whats already there. Spencer is not far off as a regular 2nd ruck, he just needs plenty of games. If,,, you don't want to be patient, then persist with PJ for just one more.

Personally, IMO, we are only into Rnd 9 or something this year, a developing players year. Lets give Spencer @ least another 9 - 10 games this year, there's 13 games to come.

By next summer, after another pre season of fitness & weight work, he'll be even bigger, & hopefully, angrier.

He's our next genuine 2nd ruck, ahead of perhaps gawn.

If we were to recruit a backup, that would mean we've let PJ go, so, in that scenario I'd prefer a mobile follower type bigman, as a short term situation.

I don't think he does either well.

Oh God please no...

Ditto to this.

No room on our list now for big mistakes...

No No No No No No.

A balloon would float more effectively in the forward line than Fraser.

Insipid attitude and no physical presence. A wet sponge of a big man.

Jolly is not doing much at the Pies. Wood is being played as a second ruck and he isnt much. What does this say about Fraser?

Pass

I would rather have Newton as a ruckman - even he has more of a physical presence than Fraser - that's how bad I feel Fraser is as a ruckman.

our best second ruck this year has been dunn. i think we need a more athletic type ruckman to compliment jamar. a paddy type or, i hate to say it, a nic nat type. that type can act as another midfielder and also can push forward to add to the scoreboard.

Guest The Boss

Josh Fraser is too soft, never been a fan.

The only instance he should come across is through the PSD, and ONLY if he is the best available player at our pick. If Collingwood do get rid of him, I have a feeling he will be Gold Coast bound anyway. As far as I know, GC17 do not have any ruckmen that are ready to step straight into AFL so Fraser could fill the gap for 1-2 years.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
