  1. Thanks for providing me with a far sharper term than 'fluorescent red-orange', daisycutter! Keep your eye on the vermillion and the blue. Go Demons.
  2. Bump. A look at the new guernsey in the 'making of the team photo' video here: http://vine.co/v/bJXt6jU5Zx5 My positive pre-season attitude is going to assume it's merely the lighting... because if our guernsey successfully goes from looking pink to being a (not-so-imposing) fluorescent red-orange... I'm going to be shattered.
  3. And now for the much less funny response (though I prefer yours, WYL). Compensation for clubs losing a player to GWS is determined only once the contract offer has been reviewed by the appropriate AFL representatives, as detailed here: http://www.afl.com.a...px?newsid=96815 So nobody would know what the (hypothetical) compensation would be at the present time.
  4. The Club isn't the only organisation reading this website: http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=107824 How can they possibly insert the comment 'Exclusive to AFL BigPond Network' at the bottom of that article? They should have saved time by excluding all the text, and simply including a link to this website. Well done to the Demonland community - keeping fresh news stories breaking.
  5. Just thought I'd continue the push toward 1000 posts. Interesting opinion piece from Jason Phelan on afl.com.au: http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=107822 The comparison to the Jeff White situation has already been brought up in this thread. To Mr Phelan, I would suggest that if Tom Scully were to head to GWS in return for picks 2 and 18 in the National Draft (as the Demons traded to Fremantle for Jeff White), there wouldn't be a great deal of crying going on. And the comment that the Demons should 'take the prospect of losing a promising and important player on the chin' if we wish to become a power club of the next decade? I completely disagree. I strongly believe a power club would fight hard to both attract and retain (whilst the opportunity remains) gun players, not meekly give in, as is suggested by the author. And for the record, provided it's true that Tom hasn't already signed with GWS, I also believe he will remain a Demon.
  6. Agree totally. Richmond gets rubbished constantly for picking Tambling instead of Buddy or Roughhead... but the Filth chose Fraser over Pavlich (very glad btw that SuperPav isn't wearing black and white, it would've made the Buckley worship seem minor). And yes, I will acknowledge the Tigers picked Fiora before Pavlich in the same draft. That hurts.
  7. I had the same thought, Satan... but then asked myself how much would a washed-up English footballer know about "experiencing the inner life of an AFL player"...?
  8. On the back of last weekend's articles making reference to Robert Warnock and the "inexperienced Danny Frawley" playing in the current Melbourne side, I was listening to SEN 1116 today to hear an advertisement for the 'Play For Melbourne' corporate event featuring an opportunity to be coached by Melbourne legends including Robbie FOWLER. Horrified. Very much doubt I'd ever hear advertisements referring to Carlton legend Stephen Kernigan, or ex-Collingwood captain Nathan Barkley. I really look forward to several players on our current list becoming truly GREAT in the years ahead - so much so that nobody could ever get their name wrong. P.S. I was only seven years old when I watched Robbie lead the Demons all the way to the 1987 Preliminary Final, but a man who played with such skill and poise deserves to be remembered in the highest regard. He was wonderful!
  9. Love the excitement levels, guys! If this keeps up, it won't be long until we start hearing the dreaded "keeping a lid on" comments.
  10. Whilst watching the boys play such a great game tonight, I couldn't help but see similarities in our game stye with that of Geelong over the past few years. A chain of handballs in very close, followed by running the ball through the middle, then kicking goals on the run from 40-50 metres out. I wouldn't claim that our playing list is presently anywhere near the same level as the Cats, but all players and coaches should be commended for effectively implementing a style of footy that leaves little room for error, but when executed well, is so wonderful to watch!
  11. Harcourt - you're right... seems it may be a little while before the media is looking at our players as carefully as they do others. I'm not going to complain. But if Chippa keeps player like he did tonight, I don't think it will be long before they start getting his name right... even in the Herald Sun!
