This is for everyone's personal reflections of the day... including all the non-footy things that are part of the fabric of what is a pretty special day.

Woke too early for a Saturday when I could actually sleep in. Brain got going, too excited to go back to sleep. With the dog, we collected The Age and read Garry Lyon on Jack Watts and Nic Nat over coffee. Realised I'm glad we chose Watts, not just on the little I've seen and the lot I'm anticipating, but a confidence that the MFC footy dept got this right too. Happy to forego the instant gratification of Nic Nat for the long enjoyment of watching a Grammar boy develop into a superhero for the Dees (hopefully).

Today is a big step towards our future. And it's at the traditional time of 2.10 at our ground, the 'G.

Love games like this, we've got our ground pretty much to ourselves. No pressure of feral Toigs or Pies supporters in the Hugh Trumble cafe. Me, the wife and kid will easily get our favourite seats on the wing, first level below the coach's box without the queue and crowd to outsmart.

And everywhere we look, the ground will be predominantly red and blue. Hopefully in tens of thousands. With just a rather sad little band of blue, white and yellow (good colour) behind the goal, enough for us to enjoy their silent dismay every goal that Watts slots.

Gee I'm hoping Jamar plays a blinder today!

There'll be lots more as the day unfolds. Just hoping it's not another dose of character-building heartbreak that the MFC have specialised in for so long now (think, 1987 prelim at wretched Waverley.

Nope, today we're watching our future. And heartbreak is back there in the past. It's a day for dreams...

We all need to show up and make it a painful place to play for the eagles. Our boys cop it when they fly west, let us return the favor when the eagles come to our house for a game!

Change your plans demonlanders, you are now going to the footy today! Drag your partner, roommates or that guy who just won't shut up at the milk bar in the morning. Take the foreign kid from across the road, that is dying to learn a new game. Take his whole family while you are at it. Call up your distant relatives, hijack a 'neighbours Ramsey street' tour bus, do whatever you need to do to make the MCG a house of pain for the eagles!

See you all there!

You think you're excited heartbeatsture...

I've been living overseas for two years and haven't seen most of young guns in the flesh yet.

I'm so pumped to see Trengove, Scully, McKenzie, Bennell, Watts, Grimes live.

I also have to pick a number for my newborn son. He's a member already, isn't coming today (4 months old) but I hope to take him before the end of the year.

Tossing up between 16, 31, 9 and 13. Have to admit I'm leaning towards 16.

So excited, hope we have a good win.

i love may 15 for various reasons - most importantly its my birthday.... 35 today :-) but also i have 5 friends dotted around the country who also share my birthday. Now i can add Tom Scully to my birthday crew.....

What a present too - J Watts to come in and kick a few and hopefully a big win against the eagles

I like the idea of dragging an non Melbourne supporter/member along to the game today. We really have to increase our supporter base and with an exciting developing team this could just be the case to get some more fans to help us on this long journey up towards both on field success and off field stability.

I have a reserved seat in the Melb Members but only sat there in Round 1 as every game since I've been able to get someone to tag along with me, so come on, search through your phone and gets some newbies on board to see the Dee's on a fine Saturday afternoon at the 'G.

Happy Birthday Jako!

It's my best old school-mate's birthday today too, Tony who is a passionate Dee's supporter but alas, living in Sydney these days. Tony is the reason I'm an MCC member, he gave me the best present ever when I was 21, a nomination from his Dad for membership. The wait has been worth it.

So it's Scully's birthday today too? Great... you guys are all going to have an unforgettable birthday compliments of MFC!!

You guys who live in Melbourne make this Canberra based former public servant so bloody envious! Yell 'Go Dees' for me today, as I sit glued to a screen and yell along with you. Go Dees!

Me and my disgusting hangover (thank you to the kind people who bought us copious amounts of champagne last night, I loved you then but I hate you now) are very much looking forward to watching the glory that is the Melbourne Football Club.

I'm shattered that I'm going to miss it! I have footy out in Donvale at the same time the dees will be running out! I'll have to listen to Dwayne Russel when i get home i s'pose arghh

We're off... parking should be a breeze. Daughter no.1 is coming too... she's caught the bug!

We'll scream ourselves especially hoarse for you, Deeold. The guy waving the scarf like a maniac in front of Dean Bailey & co will be me!

Up at six, couldn't sleep. Too pumped.

Just finished watching the replay of last week. Now ridiculously pumped.

Go Dees.

How pumped are you now? I'm shattered but not really all that surprised.

The hangover got worse and to top it off I had to sit next to one of those moles who thinks everyone is wonderful and should never be criticized. I wanted to deck her more than I wanted to deck the umpires.

Crap day all round.

Yeah well I got those MCC people who don't know how to say anything but 'Kick the ball!'.

We didn't have anyone to kick it to. No forward line, no fluidity through the middle.

No team should lose to this West Coast team away from Perth. Poor, poor, poor.

We started with zero intensity and energy levels stayed zip all day. Absolute shocker all round. At least Nic Nat was ordinary too. Watts showed enough for me to want to see him a lot more.

Seriously, we've just got to expect days like this with young bodies and mostly very little experience. Remember Geelong in 2006? Lost 7 out of 8 games and finished tenth, after winning the NAB cup. They handballed themselves from defeat to defeat, their skills looked dreadful. Lots of calls for Mark Thompson's head by that stage. Following year, premiers and the rest is history.

It's disappointing to end a day as promising as this without a good win, but hey we lost by 29 points and messrs. Scully, Trengove, Watts, Sylvia, Green, Moloney, Hughes, Jones, Davey all have enormous margins for improvement. On a good day, with that lot playing to their potential, we'd bury the Wet Toast by 59+.

I thought McKenzie & Grimes were OK and there's a few who will be taking a holiday next week.

And for Deeoldfart up there in Canberra, did I mention that the standard of the umpiring today was unacceptably poor. Team 'umpires' (looking smart in their lime green anti-clash outfits) didn't crown themselves in any glory either. The mongrels.

Must have been sitting near me as it was all i heard too. I reckon they just should have kept handballing it. Whenever they actually kicked it was to a 3 on 1, or rolled over the boundary etc.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
