Does anyone else have a serious man crush on Bailey? I know a bloke who has a a nephew who is about 10 years old and is a die hard demon... as kids do, he once rang the club just expecting he could ask to speak to Bails about some suggestions he had for the side... of course whoever answered said 'um.. he's not here right now but we'll let him know you called' the next day (I think) Bails actually rang the little tacker back and had a yarn with him for about 20 minutes and answered all his questions. What a legend... imagine some [censored] like Malthouse doing that

"Brownlow medal form" that is some serious tent-pitching stuff. Not an absurd call either given Sylvia was one of the best players in the comp for a solid month around the middle of the year and his performance against the Hawks may well have been one of the best individual efforts of the season

Damn straight you remind them of it Dean. Start with Leigh Matthews

Let us remember Bailey was unanimously voted as the new coach. I am sure we have only seen a small percentage of what he believes in so far.

In Interviews he is very upbeat when talking about Work rates and Training, but is very careful not to give the Media Too Much

2010 is going to be remembered as a Pivitol year

Maybe i am just dreaming...But i think DB is going to give the AFL a good shake this year. Mike Shehan will be Gobb smacked!!

Great post! Is that Scully handballing in the first pic?

No Scully was not there, None of the new recruits for that matter. I think the one you are looking at is Clint Bartram. In regards too a previous post, Dean Bailey was dead set serious about Colin Sylvia.

All the new recruits are at the AFL Player Induction Camp this week.... Learning how to cope with the stresses of possibly becoming extremely wealthy and learning how to act in public without making yourself look like a [censored]-bag (ala half of Carlton's list) :D

Actually, In all seriousness the AFLPA does a fantastic job with this camp and just re-enforce to the young lads what a wonderful opportunity they have been given and to grab it by the balls and make the most of it....

The thing that I was really impressed with was that anytime anyone dropped, fumbled or missed a target, The whole playing group dropped down for 10 push ups. This happened four times in the 10 minutes I was standing there.

Just curious - is this that impressive?

I was made to do that in U/18s and still do it at training to this day

I heard the Head of the Program on SEN this Morning-She was Great, Sounds like a great program.

Steve Allesio is a major speaker in it all along with others.

Does this mean we've got some sort of KGB style dossier on suspected opposition scouts? I like it.

ha ha... well, we've got Dave Dunbar doing the dirty work at opposition teams training (occassionally found in disguise by opposition football departments). Good to see we have our own surveillance working overtime - even if they find them right under their nose.

Col is paying $126 for top 5 in the Brownlow. Go Col you good thing!!!!

Good luck with that. Hopefully he gives you good sight for your money come Brownlow night.

10 push-ups is nothing for AFL players. Even four times in 10 minutes. It's all about trying to minimising their mistakes by getting them to concentrate. They should make it 50 push-ups as punishment per error...or 20 'Burpee's.'

edit:

PS. Thanks Steamin, for your update.

Maybe you should go down to training to see it for yourself- VERY IMPRESSIVE when you see it done by all- shows that mistakes hurt the whole team ,not just the individual.

I think he understands the concept, but its just not that impressive if you've done it yourself.

I also did it in juniors and I would be surprised if they DIDN'T have some form of fitness-related team punishment for mistakes.

I too am in absolute awe of the man. My story happened late 2008 when standing with a friend at a MFC function DB was walking past and stopped for a "chat" and told us amongst other things a few home truths about Chris Johnson. What was obvious to us was that he is an up front and an absolute no BS type of person. If that is the impression that he gave us just in the ten - ffiteen minutes that he took out of his precious time then I think the Club has a winner. Whether he has the football smarts to go with his down to earth and honest personality only time will tell. What is so important is that Cameron Schwab and Chris Connolly and the Board believe that he is the man to lead our impressive group of young footballers into the future. Now is the crucial time to mould that group. That says it all to me.

Well ours dress as the village people to avoid detection so why not... however the Eagles have probably developed a cloak of invisibility such is there football department expenditure

Becoming extremely wealthy ey? A good friend of mine's son plays for port adelaide, and what they earn in the first few years is tuppence. Plus the average AFL career is 3 games. but definatly later in the career things can go awry, ie carlton.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
