Our continuous injury woes!

Just watch Collingwood's clanger count rise next year if Buckley gets a game for them.

That maybe so - but is irrellevant to this thread.

I'm sorry but I am going to need more than a post from 'hollywood' over at Ology to convince that 1) Buckley actually said these things, and 2) that there is a problem with a differing workloads.

And what would Simon know about training workloads?

He was fit for about two months last year.

Don't believe everything you read.

Agree & noted,but I believe it.

I have watched our pre seasons for nearly 20 years now and I have thought our last two were pathetic. This years has been brilliant so far. Better planned and executed.

Quite frankly, some of the crap you read here is a bit hard to take.

We're two and a half to three months into the pre season and most of the players who are coming out of rehab are reportedly doing well, there have been two injuries worth reporting, Strauss and Wonaeamirri, both of them short term. Wona is susceptible to hamstring injuries, never had them at home in the warmer climate and needs to learn how to manage his body to avoid them in future.

If you believe some of the so-called experts around here, it's time for a royal commission into eveything at the club that ticks. FFS everything seems to be on an even keel at the club. Let's be thankful for the fact that 95% are fully fit and that it stays that way. Injuries are often cyclical, the tough times come and go. Let's hope they've gone and not act like drama queens because a player suffers a 4 week injury in December.

I agree! With all the positive things going on at the moment it seems that people still need to find negative things to say!

Yes agreed. Let's accentuate the positive. Players like Sylvia, Rivers and Maric and fully involved in pre season training. Blease and Garland are only 18 and 21 yo and are on graduated rtw's. What the MFC are doing over the next 2-3 years is building up a list of approx 30 players who are good enough to play senior football.

Sorry, but injuries are definitely not cyclical - they are either random due to luck, or a result of poor preparation / physical maintenance / injury management / etc.

So Mr. Spacey, you would attribute Melbourne's low injury rate over the pre season to date to random good luck or good preparation/maintenance/management etc?

Certainly luck has played a part - I can't say about the rest.

But to say it is cyclical is inherently wrong.

A friend was one of the Collingwood medics earlier in the decade. He says that the job was fairly simple in 2002 and 2003 when the club went through a quiet period with injuries. From week to week hardly any key players missed with injury or illness and he could sense confidence at the organisation rising as it was able to put its best team out on the field on a weekly basis. The team made and lost the grand final in each of those years and ironically, suspensions hit them more than injury in the end.

Call it random, cyclical, what goes around comes around, whatevever you want but the CFC then sufferred two shocking years with injury after injury, soft tissue, breaks etc. The lot! There had been no changes made to any of the medical practices adopted after 2003 but by 2005 the Pies were tanking their way to a priority pick.

I agree with Spirit. There's much ado about nothing going on. These days clubs monitor things medically very well. Let's stop being pedants and worry warts.

Excellent post.

For the sake of the Mfc, let's just hope the planets align for a prolonged period of good fortune.

When did CFC take over the Lexus Centre- I thought it parallels with your point- in 2003.Maybe the change to Lexus Centre parallels also to us going to Casey.

Another interesting factor is in 2002 & 2003 they finished 2nd, 2004-13th, 2005-15th ,2006-7th

They're not doing full on body training with game practice and tackling etc. Its all about building the fitness base at this point.

If some of you who does not think injuries has taken affect on our football team since 2007 ,please read this,

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/demon...from=public_rss

and just look at the ones they emphasis -Bell -whom hasn't given a welp since 2007 due to injury for

example and WOW- look at Moloney and his great improvement this year since getting over injury.

Injuries have been a major factor,in particular to key players, - in my opinion to our current situation over the last two years along with over half our list has changed since this time.

So you have managed to deduce that injuries are bad for players.

Surely that information should be included in the Royal Commission into our injury management that must be undertaken.

We can longer accept mediocrity!!

I take this statement back after the news today- I started this thread back in mid December- now we here we have several players injured just on the start of a new season. Jamar, Spencer, Meeson, Bate, Garland, Wonaeamirri, Davey Johnson are being mentioned today as currently injured. One still has to ask as I did at the start of this pre season -Is it the grounds or bad management. Hey we have had far to many injuries at the start of a season for 3 years now- this is becoming un acceptable

Is it any coincidence that the ruckman are being groomed to be these running mobile DEAN COX type players, 200cm 110kg players running like midfielders. It's no wonder they are breaking down.

This bad luck can't continue, To look on the bright side it's better to get them out the way now than mid year.

This response is severly off putting and contains no new injuries (other than Bate recovering from some foot soreness). Jamar, Meeson, Johnson, Davey and Bate are all recovering from post season surgeries, so thus the reason for them to be considered on the "injured" or on the out of action list. Spencer was simply crook/ill. Garland and Wonaemirri have all had some hicups during their recovery, but I disagree 100% with your suggestion that we have far too many injuries at present. I'd content that we're in a better position (injury wise) than almost every other club.

during preseason training i expect that players are training hard, possibly harder than they run out some matches, the whole point is to get them fitter now than they need to be to play round one, so its not a surprise that some players need to take it easy some weeks.

anyone exercising regularly knows that you pick up sore muscles and niggles along the way. as a result you need to back off for a couple of weeks or even just a few days to let the body recover.

we don't appear to have picked up any new soft tissue injuries so I'm not sure what you are suggesting?

Fair enough. But it's hard to keep the faith when:

(1) Our current crop of injuries are all of the type that are completely preventable - foot stress fractures & hammies;

(2) All 4 of our specialist ruckmen who have played an AFL game have a preventable injury which has made them unable to participate in full training, and is likely to keep them all out of full training until at least the start of the season.

This is not a position that other clubs are in.

No abuse here. MFC have had a shite run with injury since the end of 06'.

Now a spate foot stress fractures/problems recently, its weird..

Basketballers that big run up and down on a wooden floor at full tilt..

Plus its only happened, in number, to us. (The D. Cox foot problem originated when a teammate stepped on it.. think it was Kerr..)

Could this be a lingering problem from using pathetic facilities all these years?

I Remember that new russian(?) fitness/physio- whatever he is, mentioning that he had to re-teach a fair few how to exercise correctly, from the ground up, so to not cause injury down the track due to incorrect form, etc..

Maybe the advice was to late for some?

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
