Leadership group for 2010

Time to put our heads together to come up with a leadership group. Our Football club initially stated that Ball would be invaluable with our young group- However I believe we have good leaders now and are able to groom others.

My leadership group is:

Jnr McDonald,Davey, Green, Bruce, Moloney & Grimes. Who else do you see could step up into this group.

Await you thoughts on who you believe should lead our team.

See no reason why any of McDonald, Davey, Bruce, Green and Moloney would be left out.

Miller is always around these things, but I think it might be easier to give him a year without leadership. But if he deserves it he gets in.

After that I like the idea of Grimes. I still think the next captain will come from the experienced group - with Davey firming as favourite, but if Jack's leadership is as good as it is made out to be, then football wise he has shown enough to join the group. The major problem is that he has only played 12 games!

Rivers, Warnock, Sylvia, Jones, Bate, Morton are others that looking in from afar seem to show leadership.

It would be irrisponsible to put pressure of a leadership role on Grimes young shoulders after playing only 12 games. Let him settle into his career and get 40 or 50 games and is settled before making it any more difficult. Its hard enough for young players.

I would have thought Rivers, Jones and Sylvia would be the next in line to step up leadership wise.

I've got no idea who could step up into the leadership group, and to be honest I highly doubt anyone on here spends enough time around the club to know who should be in the leadership group.

As a guess im going to say that Bate will be elevated into the leadership group.

Moloney for next captain until Grimes experienced enough to take over

I understand that we do not have knowledge on whom will be in the leadership group, similar, to no idea to whom will be our draft picks. However, we raise topics so we all can have our thoughts. However, your guess is as good as anyone's. I think Bate has a good chance to be included.Moloney would make a great captain also- wears his heart on his sleeves for the red & the blue.

I have never been a fan of co captains before but I believe it could be a legitimate option now with both beamer and flash very credible candidates as next Dees captain.

Apologies Jaycee! I didn't mean for it to come across as a dig at the topic.

Its Moloney over Davey for next captain for me.

We have a heap of kids that will become great leaders in time, but they are all far too young.

Grimes seems to have taken over McLeans role as the young captain in making!

Warnock leads by example on the field coming out the backline and I thought was a good suggestion by "The Master". Could be a good addition to the leadership group and worth considering.

Agree, Warnock should definately be considered.

McDonald, Bruce, Green, Davey, Moloney, <token young player>.

I would suggest that there will be nothing token about the young players added to our leadership group, as it is extremely important that we start to develop next generation leaders.

Kids like Grimes are IMHO better suited to leadership roles than some senior players you've mentioned above.

Fair point- but who else would you have in your leadership group- anyone to groom?

If it weren't for his early indiscretions and issues with his body, I reckon I would have Col Sylvia at the top of the list.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Colin would be almost the perfect on-field leader. His brand of footy is not only tough and uncompromising, but unlike the JMacs, Moloneys, Bruces he damages the opposition and gets in their heads. He can play 4 quarters now (hopefully he still will in 2010) and most importantly he is able to bring his side back into a game with a single 5 minute burst, and he is able to do it against the best sides going round with little or no help. Think West Coast in '07 and Geelong this year (from memory).

He's like Beamer with a bit more pace, overhead marking, tackling and accurate 60 metre goals.

All that said, I'm not saying he should be a captain or even in the leadership group. That would be slightly pre-emptive. If he bring on a 2010 like 2009, then he'd be absolutely in the right place to be considered.

Totally agree with Warnock. Would like to see he or Frawley in there. My reason fr the Frawley card is because he could possibly take it to the next level with some leadership commitments. Without saying too much, it might make him a bit more mature off-field, which may in turn see him take the next step on-field.

Hard call as we probably don't know who the other players see as leaders behind the scenes. I would like to think that Bruce and Green don't get a gig in the LG, they can and will be leaders on the ground, but as the true LG, maybe we should keep this "young team" push and have a young leadership group (eg Grimes, Frawley, Flash, Petterd/Jones, Moloney).

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
